Thiem is trying to become the first top seed to win the Buenos Aires title since Rafael Nadal in 2015. Thiem, the current World No. 5, holds a 2-0 head-to-head lead over World No. 51 Bedene in ATP Tour-level matches, with their last meeting taking place last month in Doha with two tight sets. So far this week, Thiem has not lost a set in four matches. En route to the semi-finals, Bedene dismissed No. 3 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas (World No. 20) and No. 5 seed Diego Schwartzman (World No. 24), and now hopes to tackle the No. 1 seed Thiem. Bedene is 0-15 against ATP Top 10 players. The top-seeded Colombian team of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah will face the No. 4- seeded all-argentine team of Andres Molteni and Horacio Zeballos for the doubles title. Cabal and Farah are the two-time defending champions in Buenos Aires, having won in 2016 and 2017. Thiem owns all three previous meetings against the Frenchman, their last coming at Indian Wells in 2017. Monfils recently won the title in Doha, where he was slated to meet Thiem in the semi-finals before the Austrian withdrew. Thiem is trying to become the first top seed to win the Buenos Aires title since Rafael Nadal in 2015. With a victory on Saturday, Federico Delbonis will not only reach the final in Buenos Aires, but he'll score career win No. 100, and he'll do so on his home soil, no less. But first, he will have to get past World No. 51 Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia. En route to the semi-finals, Bedene has dismissed No. 3 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas and No. 5 seed Diego Schwartzman. The last time these two players met on the ATP World Tour level was on the clay courts of 2012 Barcelona, a contest that Delbonis took in straight sets. Delbonis has yet to drop a set this week, while Bedene has given up only one. Thiem is also still alive in the doubles draw along with partner Diego Schwartzman. They will face the top-seeded Colombian team of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the second doubles semifinal of the day on Court Guillermo Vilas. No. 5 Diego Schwartzman is joined by compatriots Federico Delbonis, Leonardo Mayer and Guido Pella in representing the host country, while top seed Dominic Thiem, Gael Monfils, Aljaz Bedene and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez round out the final eight. In the first match on Court Guillermo Vilas, Garcia-Lopez and Delbonis, ranked No. 69 and No. 70, respectively, square off in their first career meeting. While Garcia-Lopez has reached the Argentina Open quarter-finals for the first time this year, Delbonis has advanced to this stage twice before, in 2013 and 2015. Following their match will be Schwartzman and Bedene, both of whom needed three sets to pass the second round and earn a spot in the quarters. The two have met three times before, once at the ATP Tour level, and all of which have fallen in Bedene's favor. Leading off the night matches are Mayer and Monfils, who have not met since 2010 Wimbledon. Mayer is in his eighth straight main draw appearance in Buenos Aires, with this year's quarter-finals being his best result to date. He'll be going against an in-form Monfils who is fresh off a title in Doha and deep run in the draw at Quito. The final match of the day features top seed and 2016 champion Thiem facing Pella for a spot in the semi-finals. Although Pella leads their head-to-head 2-1, Thiem took their most recent meeting in the Australian Open first round. The world No. 6 remains undefeated on the courts of Buenos Aires, while Pella's record stands at 3-4. The Italian looks to extend his 3-0 head-to-head advantage over Argentina's Leonardo Mayer in Thursday's second-round match. Both men carry experience in Buenos Aires, with Fognini in his 11th appearance here and Mayer in his eighth, though Mayer has yet to advance beyond the second round. World No. 10 and No. 2 seed Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain takes on countryman and doubles partner Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the opening match on Court Guillermo Vilas Thursday. Carreno Busta reached the semi-finals here last year in his debut, while Garcia-Lopez is still looking to surpass his best result of the second round. As a doubles team, the Spaniards reached the semi-finals in Doha and the third round of the Australian Open this year. This is the first time they will meet in the singles draw of a Tour-level event. Home favorite Federico Delbonis will play lucky loser Gastao Elias of Portugal for a spot in the third round. Elias, who entered the main draw after Kyle Edmund withdrew due to illness, owns all four of their previous meetings at the Challenger level, dating back to 2011. However, Delbonis has fared well in Buenos Aires, having reached the quarter-finals twice in the last five years. The Argentine is three wins away from the 100-match-win milestone. Rounding out the fourth match in action Thursday is a contest between Gael Monfils and Dusan Lajovic, a 2016 quarter-finalist. Monfils has tasted success in 2018 with a title in Doha and a quarter-final appearance in Quito last week. Topping the list is former 2016 champion Dominic Thiem, who faces Argentina's own Horacio Zeballos in the day's final match on Court Guillermo Vilas. The only previous meeting between the two players came on the clay of Roland Garros in 2017, with Thiem conceding only five games in three sets to claim the win. Zeballos, a former quarter-finalist here in 2010, looks to end the Austrian's 5-0 win streak in Buenos Aires and notch his first clay win of the season. After earning a bye in the first round, three-time quarter-finalist and No. 3 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain opens his campaign on Wednesday against Aljaz Bedene. The two have met three times at the Challenger level over the past eight years, but this is their first meeting at the ATP Tour level. Ramos-Vinolas is appearing in his eighth straight main draw appearance in Buenos Aires and carries a 9-7 record here. No. 8 seed Fernando Verdasco kicks off play Wednesday against Guido Pella of Argentina for their first career meeting. Both men are hoping to reach the third round in Buenos Aires for the first time. No. 5 Diego Schwartzman of Argentina and qualifier Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil are fighting for the same feat, having never surpassed the second round in four tries. They will contest their fourth Tour-level meeting on clay, two of which have favored Schwartzman.
