PADI ReActivate FAQs Program details What is the PADI ReActivate program? The PADI ReActivate program is a convenient and prescriptive program that s designed to encourage existing certified divers who have been inactive to refresh their skills and re-enter the sport of diving. Why create a new program? A recent survey of PADI Divers showed that of those who were not actively diving, more than 97 percent intended to dive in the future. When asked what would get them back in the water, two popular responses were: a refresher course that I can complete quickly and a prescriptive approach that refreshes only what I ve forgotten. ReActivate is designed to give divers what they want a quick way to refresh what they need to dive comfortably again. The previous Scuba Review program was effective, but not very prescriptive. The new program provides a huge opportunity to re-engage already certified divers and get them to re-ignite their passion for diving and drive them back to PADI Dive Centers and Resorts. Will this replace the current Scuba Review program? Yes. For certified divers who want help getting comfortable with diving again, ReActivate replaces Scuba Review. The materials and approach are also useful in assessing the divers readiness to continue their education. How does this program work? The ReActivate program consists of two sections: knowledge review and inwater skills refresher. To receive a ReActivate date on a replacement certification card, the diver must complete both sections. Some divers may decide to complete only the knowledge review, but the program encourages all participants to complete both sections. Divers complete the knowledge review material using either ReActivate Touch or ReActivate Online. ReActivate Touch is an interactive program that works on tablets and mobile devices. It can be purchased two ways from a PADI Member who provides a ReActivate Touch code or directly through the PADI Library App from the appropriate App store. Divers who purchase the Touch version on their own are required to affiliate with a PADI Dive Center or Resort. ReActivate Online is an interactive program designed for personal computers. Divers purchase the access code for ReActivate Online from a PADI Member. After completing all topics in the Touch or Online product, the diver takes the ReActivate Quick Review online as a final assessment. Upon successful completion, divers can download and print a ReActivate Certificate that includes a unique code. The instructor who completes the inwater skill portion enters the code while processing the diver's ReActivated certification card online.
Will a card be issued if divers decide they only want to take the knowledge review portion? No, they only receive a certificate that indicates they've completed the knowledge review. To receive the card, they need to complete the both the knowledge review and skills refresher portions. What if the diver does not take the ReActivate Quick Review online? An instructor may administer the ReActivate Quick Review in person. Many language versions are available for download from the PADI Pros Site. The instructor has the option to enter in the knowledge review completion date within the PADI Online Processing Center to verify that diver has completed this requirement. What is the minimum age to take the ReActivate program? 10 years old although with the initial launch a diver needs to be 13 years or older to comply with internet child protection laws. When proper protocols are in place, 10-12 year olds will be able to use the ReActivate Touch and Online products. Does the ReActivate content expire from the device once it s downloaded? Once ReActivate Touch or Online is downloaded from the PADI Library, the material will remain on the device to which it was installed. However, the unique code assigned to the diver is only valid for 12 months. Once the diver redeems the code by downloading the material, the diver has 12 months to complete the program with a PADI Member who will use the code to process a replacement card with the diver s ReActivated date. If more than 12 months pass, the diver will need to purchase a new product and code to receive the replacement card. Certification Card Information What will appear on the ReActivated certification card? The card will look similar to the existing certification cards but will have an extra ReActivated On date on the photo side of the card along with the diver s original certification date. What level card will this be tied to? The ReActivate date can be placed on any PADI certification card the diver has earned, including all specialty diver ratings as long as it was a course requiring open water dives. For example, an Equipment Specialist certification card can t be used. The ReActivate program covers scuba fundamentals, regardless of the card the diver chooses. What if the diver is a non-padi diver and not in the system? On launch, only PADI certified divers can ReActivate. In the future, if the diver doesn t have a PADI certification, the diver receives a special ReActivate card that is not a certification card, but still acknowledges that the diver refreshed basic knowledge and skills.
Does the ReActivated card expire? No. What if a diver got certified as a Junior Open Water Diver and now qualifies for Open Water Diver certification card? Although not required, ReActivate is a great way to upgrade Junior divers to an adult card. These divers benefit from refreshing their knowledge and skills, and can get a ReActivate date on their new Open Water Diver card to confirm it. If I have an ecard, will the ReActivated On date appear on my phone? On initial launch, ReActivate dates will not appear on ecards. In the future, this option may be possible. What if a diver needs to replace a certification card but has only completed half of the ReActivate program? A diver can replace a card at any time, but it will not have a ReActivate date unless the entire program is completed. Course Materials When will these materials be available? English materials will be available in September 2014. Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch and German should be available at the end of the Fourth Quarter, 2014. Arabic, Korean, Chinese and Japanese will follow in the First Quarter, 2015. Implementation will be required one year from time of language availability. What can I use if the new ReActivate materials are not available in my language? You may continue to use the PADI Scuba Review materials if they are available in the appropriate language for the diver. What format will the ReActivate program materials be available in? The ReActivate materials are available in Touch (an interactive Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) tablet-based folio-ios and Android compatible) or Online (ebook.) Both versions include appropriate videos and images necessary to provide the best user experience. The difference between the Touch and Online version is the Touch product can be viewed through compatible tablets and the online version can be viewed using the Mac and PC based Adobe DPS Viewer. How does the member purchase a PADI ReActivate Touch/Online and acquire the unique code? The dive center/resort or instructor must purchase the product from a PADI Sales Representative or through the online shopping cart. This transaction generates one unique code (and the integrated certification processing) for each PADI ReActivate Touch/Online purchased. You manage and distribute these codes to divers through the PADI Online Processing Center.
