Kilworth Springs Golf Club Minutes of committee meeting held on Tuesday 2 nd May 2017 @ 7.00pm Present Stuart Edwards (SE) Stuart Glover (SG) Sarah Smith (SS) Terry Redmond (TR) Luke Atkins (LA) Liz Scribbins (LS) Tony Miles (TM) Bill Barrett (BB) Paul Blyth (PB) Apologies Sheila Major (SM) Geoff Toach (GT) Scott Binch (SB) Dave Gardner (DG) Alan Jacques (AJ) Minutes of Last Meeting Matters Arising None Management Report Luke provided the meeting with a written report; To begin, I would like to confirm that the finishing touches currently being applied to the lobby area will conclude the bar refurb. We would like to thank all members for their cooperation throughout this disruptive period. Although this marks the end of the bar refurb, it doesn t mark the end of change for Kilworth Springs. We are pleased to announce that we have a new green keeper joining the team. Henry Crooke will become our new apprentice green keeper and will begin his placement at Kilworth Springs on Monday 8 th May. We ask that all members, if given the chance take the time to meet Henry and make him feel part of the club. As mentioned in previous meetings, we were in the process of redesigning our scorecards. This design has now been finalised and we are awaiting our first delivery which is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday 3 rd May. The new score-card will feature a system whereby it will indentify the location of the pin for each day of the week. With regards to the halfway house, we are currently looking into the possibility of replacing some of the worn and broken panels that are currently a worry for the committee. For the mean time, I arranged for the green keeping team to ensure all loose panels are secured and definitely not a health hazard to our members. The new competition withdrawal procedure was implemented towards the back end of the month. The first competition was successful with no late withdrawals. However, I m just awaiting the competition results from this weekend and suspect we have our first offenders. Unfortunately, both I and Jack haven t found the time to sit down and finalise the green keeping procedure. However, with lots of new changes now becoming implemented we are hopeful that we will get a chance over the coming weeks. However, for all those who didn t receive the monthly newsletter, please find Jack Mayfield s report attached. In addition to Jack s report, we have both agreed that sanded areas will be covered by the following local rule: Local Rule Renovation/Sanded Areas: Play prohibited Compulsory GUR

A ball coming to rest in any sanded areas which have recently been seeded, shall be treated as compulsory ground under repair, and play is prohibited. If a player s ball lies in this area, or if it interferes with the player s stand or the area of his intended swing, the player must take relief under rule 25-1 The player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. Penalty for breach of local rule: Match play Loss of Hole; Stroke play Two strokes. We are pleased to announce that Whole in One Golf are finalising the designs for the clubs new 3D flyovers. For all those wanting to take a sneak peak the link can be found within the member s newsletter. On another note, please accept my apologies for the missing large range tees. Unfortunately, the large tees we ordered were slightly too small. We have resolved the issue and are currently waiting for a number of x-large tees to arrive. Lastly, we are pleased to announce that our new web team are now in the final stages and almost ready to launch the new and improved club website. This will be going live within the next two weeks and will feature a members section much like our previous site. The content will be password protected and the identity of the password will be made available to all members before its launch. Sub Committee Reports Competitions A competitions sub-committee meeting was held on 2 nd May @ 6.00pm. Winter League Final, Peter Van PrimeLife Trophy, a Midweeks & Weekend Nine-Hole Competition and, April Stableford and May Monthly Medal competitions have all been played since the last meeting. Starting sheet posted for the May Monthly Stableford competition to be played on Saturday 6 th May 2017. Stuart Glover and Bill Barrett will be committee appointed starters. Starting sheet posted for the Gibbins Trophy competition to be played on Sunday 14 th May 2017. Stuart Glover and A.N.Other will be committee appointed starters. Entry sheet posted for the Summer Trophy R1 - Greensomes competition to be played on Saturday 20 th May 2017. Entry sheet posted for the Jim Perkins Bogey Trophy competition to be played on Sunday 4 th June 2017. Two Nine-Hole qualifying competitions are organised for Monday 8 th May and Thursday 18 th May 2017.

Entry sheet posted for the June Monthly Stableford (Help for Heroes) competition to be played on Sunday 28 th May 2017. A reminder that we need to have a minimum of five ladies playing in the event. Summer Knock-outs are underway. It has been agreed to extend the preliminary/round one closing dates by one week due to the delay in notice boards being displayed and the issues arising form it. Management have indicated they will issue letters to members who do not show up on competition day and do not call in. In addition, they will charge the competition fee for those members withdrawing within 24 hours of the competition starting time. Local Rule for Immovable Objects (Rule 24-2) item (d) on the reverse of the scorecard is not clearly understood as to where relief from the obstruction can be sought. It is recommended that only a ball lying on mown areas of the course can qualify for such relief. Social TR reported that the Sundowners events start on Friday 5 th May, details are available on the noticeboard. SE reported the friendly match against Overstone Park golf club had been cancelled due to low numbers available. TR reported he will arrange another Race Night later in the year and hope to attract more people to attend following the partial success of the 2016 event. TR reported the Committee Invitational Tournament will be repeated on Saturday 16 th September 2017, replacing the Kilworth Open competition. We need to publish details early to attract as many entrants as possible. SE also announced he has provisionally booked a trip to Nailcote Hall to play the nine-hole course along with dinner on Saturday 15 th July at a cost of 30 each. Members are asked to put their name on the sheet in the clubhouse foyer. Finance See appendix 1. Handicaps A handicaps sub-committee meeting was held on 2 nd May @ 6.00pm. Continuous Handicap Review Report; Following CONGU handicap guidelines and after running the Continuous Handicap Review report, the following players are recommended to have their handicaps revised this month. Robert Bruce - from 24.0c to 25.0c. Playing handicap 25c. Martin McNulty - from 19.4c to 20.4c. Playing handicap 20c. Roger Bowler - from 18.9c to 19.9c. Playing handicap 20c. These changes will be applied on Wednesday 3 rd May 2017.

Kilworth Springs golf club will provide a folder in the foyer for members to enter away nonqualifying scores throughout the year. The Handicap Chairman will collate these scores on a spreadsheet and have them available for the annual handicap review to be held in December 2017. All members who play in non-qualifying competitions, home or away, social or otherwise, should enter their scores in the folder at every opportunity. If clarification is required, please refer them to the Handicap Chairman. A query had been raised regarding the small field rules being applied to ladies participating in mixed events whilst playing off their own stroke index. A number of events have been reduction only for the ladies, whilst the men in the same events had received upward adjustments if they failed to land in the CSS buffer zone. It was agreed to look into this anomaly and try to restore the adjustments for those ladies affected. TR to investigate how this may be done. Juniors Ollie Walmsley will be taking over the junior coaching programme and will be looking to attract more to the club. Seniors No report received Ladies SS provided the Committee with a verbal report; The ladies team had played in the handicap league away at Kirby Muxloe and won 2-1. Val Foster and Deb West represented the club in the Daily Mail Foursomes event at Cold Ashby on Monday 10 th April and won 3&2. The next round will be against Rugby golf club. The mixed match against Cold Ashby was lost 5 ½ - 1 ½. The friendly match against Glen Gorse golf club was won 3 1. The ladies scratch team won against Ullesthorpe 6 2. The next match is on Thursday 11 th May against Market Harborough golf club at home. Teams A Team The A team kicked off the season with a fantastic 6-2 victory over Ullesthorpe. Our new team members integrated well into the team and we are hopeful of yet another successful season. Our second match of season will be against market Harborough on Thursday 11 th May at Kilworth. B team The first league match against Market Harborough on Wednesday 19 th April was won 4 1. PB stated he had sought opinions from within the B team members and reported there was no hindrance to gender or handicaps within the team. The pairings will be selected upon strength and current form. It had been agreed that losing pairs would not necessarily be selected for the next match. It was also stated that the criteria of the B team league was to Win, compete and have fun. It was agreed that the B team clothing could be sponsored by Garry Shipman.

L&RGU A meeting of the L&RGU was taking place this evening, however, TR selected to attend the meeting at Kilworth and catch up with the L&RGU matters when receiving the minutes from them. The next L&RGU Council meetings will take place on 18 th July and 31 st October. The 2018 AGM will take place on 22 nd February 2018. Suggestions Book None submitted. Any Other Business TR had stated that all of the silver membership tags had been handed out and asked the committee to agree the purchase of a further 100 units, this was agreed. TM had asked for more notice to be given of committee meetings as it had been last minute arrangements for the last three meetings. TR apologised for the situation and agreed to have agenda and minutes out at least one week in advance of the next meeting. SS had asked for anyone interested in supporting the ladies County Fours at Hinckley golf club on Monday 15 th May at 4.40pm. BB reported that the memorial bench for Kev Day had been ordered and will be positioned close to the 16 th tee overlooking the 18 th lake. SE raised an issue that may need to be referred to the AGM. It is a proposal for full 7 day members to pay an additional 2 or 3 on top of their annual fees to pay for the Captains membership and 50% of the Vice-Captains membership. TM had responded that as President of the golf club he would discuss this with the proprietors at the next opportunity to gather comments. LA had a written request for AOB: Following the recent change to the club championship, it has been brought to my attention that category B & C golfers would perhaps like to follow a similar procedure. From a management perspective this would be perfectly fine and would be accepted. I would be interested to know the committees views on the topic? Perhaps a vote could be taken to see what the majority of members would prefer? The committee had agreed to leave the B and C divisions as a two day competition. Date of next meeting Wednesday 7 th June 2017 at 7pm Prior to committee meeting the Competitions / Handicaps subcommittee meeting will be held at 6pm.
