Dedicated e-bike rims The world has realized the need to decrease the usage of carbon. E-mobility like the one provided by e-bikes is definitely a good answer to this major trend. Over the last years, e-bike has become the fastest growing segment within the bicycle industry. It represents about 2% of the sales in Germany and about 3% in The Netherlands. Long before this trend has become popular, Ryde was already improving its Andra line. The bigger electric hub motors place the spokes under a too big angle for regular rims. This especially puts stress between the nipple and the spoke, leading often to failure of the spokes. By making sure that the nipple could be placed under the same angle as the spoke, this potential tension spot was relieved. The trick is not only the angle of the spoke hole. Also the seat for the nipple head is optimized drilling a dimple in the rim bottom, on top of the nipple hole. In that way, the extra forces put on the spoke nipples and the rim bottom by the electric assistance are much evenly spread. This leads to even less failure with e-bike wheels. The Andra rims can be ordered in many different wheel sizes and with the drilling angle for the spoke holes optimized for the hub and application. All Andra rims are built to withstand and carry more load than regular rims and can ideally be used for not only regular e-bikes, but also transport bikes with or without motor support. page 3

About Ryde History Back in 198, Ryde, built on the foundations of the illustrious Van Schothorst plant, has been synonymous of safety and topclass products. Ryde started as a forge and wheel manufacturer in Barneveld, later it moved to Boxmeer and more recently to Venray in a modern building location. Technical development Ryde pioneered the directional drilling of the spoke holes to avoid bends between the spoke and the nipple. This places less stress on the spoke and therefore reducing the chance of breaking spokes. For trekking and city bikes with bigger hubs or e-bikes with hub motors or bikes with smaller wheels, Ryde can drill the spoke holes under extreme angles. Durability Extra strong rims are another specialty of Ryde. We build rims for the hardest rides of world travelers and we supply the rims for many cargo bikes. Same rims are also often used for the most demanding producers of e-bikes. The Andra range has an impeccable reputation among its users. Ryde has recently extended this range to meet all possible needs in this segment. Future designs and new ideas are currently tested in a state of the art test laboratory, Cycling Parts Testing. All this should provide you the best rims. Production where it matters Ryde builds its rims where they are needed the most. We have our own production facilities in Europe, in The Netherlands and in Hungary. And we produce in our own factories in Asia, in Malaysia and in China. This helps to improve the reactivity in terms product supply and better understand local product needs and specification. By producing every rim in house we have the maximum control over the quality. All Ryde factories work to the same standard, the highest aluminum grade. Every facility has its own specialties. Technical features Internal dimpling (ID) Internal dimpling is a process through which extra material is pressed around the nipple holes. It helps improve the strength of the rim. In fact spoke holes are drilled under two angles, radial and axial. The spoke/ nipple line for wheels with big diameter hubs or small sized rims will be better adjusted leading to a longer lifetime of the spokes and a higher, more equal spoke tension. It is ideal for big hubs such as E-bikes/ bikes or internal gear hubs and an excellent solution for heavy duty wheels. The dimpling adds also more contact between the nipple and the rim reducing as such the deformation of the nipples. ID is a Ryde patented design. Ultimate Power (UP) The machined turned off side wall improve the braking performance and offers an optimal parallelism of the rim, a smooth joint and a better look. Pin joint Pin joint rim offers more stability. The two channels add more weight and stiffness to the profile. Pin joint rims and Safety line work together in one construction unit. ETRTO (European Tire and Rim Technical Organization) ETRTO is a defined standard that ensures a perfect compatibility between rim and tire if both use the same ETRTO reference. Carbide supersonic (CSS) As an option on our UP brake surface, CSS is a protection layer that makes the rims almost everlasting. There is no wear out anymore. However, this feature requires special brake blocks, produced by Magura, Koolstop, Swissstop. Not only CSS rims last longer but also their braking performance is higher in dry and wet condition. CSS is a Ryde Patented design. Safety line This system shows the rim wear without the risk that the rim sidewall collapses immediately without warning. The pin channel is opening up before the hook is collapsing. With visible cracks in the rim the sidewall does not collapse, but rim must be replaced asap. This prevents potential accidents. The 25 mm internal width works perfectly with all the wider tyres that are available. If has to last, take the Andra 4. We give an approval for 18kg load. The rim is offered in a UP version and as an even more stable disc version.
