Conducted by the Australian Kung Fu (Wu Shu) Federation* *Officially recognized by the Australian Sports Commission as the peak governing body for Kung Fu (Wu Shu) in Australia NSW State Open Chinese Martial Arts (Kung Fu/Tai Chi/Wushu) Championships Saturday 26 April 2008 10.00-18.00 Central Coast Youth Club Niagara Park The NSW State Open Competition is a part of the 2008 NSW Annual Day of Chinese Martial Arts This tournament will provide an opportunity for all enthusiasts of Kung Fu, Wushu, Tai Chi of all ages to test their skills and further develop these arts in Australia.
Summary of Rules and Regulations: 1. Tournament goals: promoting Chinese Martial Arts (Kung Fu, Wushu, Tai Chi) in NSW, improving skills, and exchanging experience between athletes 2. Organisers: Australian Kung Fu (Wushu) Federation; AKWF NSW Committee 3. Date: 26 April 2008. Doors open 10.00 am; the tournament starts at 11.00 am. The programme of the day will be sent to the participants one week prior to the event. 4. Location: Central Coast Youth Club, Niagara Park, NSW (opposite the Niagara Park Rail Station). The forms competition will be conducted on the wooden floor. Please consider this when choosing the event you wish to participate in. You will be notified of any change of conditions. 5. Spectators tickets: available at the door, adults $10.00, children (6-15)/pensioners $5.00, family of 4 $25.00 6. Age categories: Juniors: up to 13 years (inclusive) Youth: up to 17 years (inclusive) Adults: from 18 years up Over 45 (for Tai Chi only) For Continuous Sparring see a separate set of rules and regulations. Note: The Tournament Director has the power to merge any age categories or subdivide them to his/her discretion. 7. Competition events: 1. Traditional Kung Fu barehand forms Group 1: tunbei, piguaquan, fanziquan, choziaoquan Group 2: xiang xing (any animal forms), ditang, usuntokaoquan, houquan, inchzhaoquan, tanlanquan, zuiquan Group 3: cha, hua, pao, hong, shaolin, wing chun, jeet kune do, hung gar, jow gar, chow lay fut, white crane Group 4: other styles not mentioned above 2. Traditional Kung Fu Weapons Group 1: single (straight sword, broadsword, spear, cudgel, etc.) Group 2: double (straight sword, broadsword, hook, twin-head spears, etc.) Group 3: flexible (three-section staff, nine section whip, single broadsword plus whip, rope-dart, etc) 3. Barehand Wushu routines: changquan (Long Fist), nanquan (Southern Fist) 4. Short weapons: daoshu (broadsword), jianshu (straight sword), nandao (southern broadsword) 5. Long weapons: qiangshu (spear), gunshu (cudgel), nangun (southern cudgel) 6. Internal routines: baguazhang, xingyi, bajiquan 7. Taiji Quan: 24 form. Performing time: 4-5 min 42 combined forms, Yang Style, Chen style, Wu Style, Sun Style, Wu/Hao Style, other Tai Chi routines Performing time: 5-6 min. 8. Taiji weapons:
32 sword, 42 sword, traditional sword, broadsword, cudgel, spear, fan Performing time: 3-4 min. 9. Fighting sets: Group 1: barehand vs. barehand Group 2: weapon vs. weapon Group 3: barehand vs. weapon 2-3 participants. Performing time: not less than 50 sec 10. Group events. Minimum 6 participants. Performing time: 3-6 min International Wushu Taolu 1999 Rules will be used (please note that time requirements for juniors differ from other categories). Note: The Tournament Director has the power to merge any divisions if insufficient number of competitors per any division occurs. 8. Judges: All schools are encouraged to send experienced volunteers for officiating at this tournament. Schools with 10 or more registered participants are to send at least one judge. In the morning of 26 April there will be a seminar for judges and officials for approximately 2 hrs starting at 8.30 at the same venue (administrative cost $45). The participants will receive the certificate of attendance which is a prerequisite to the full judging accreditation in Chinese Martial Arts. The seminar has to be pre-booked a week before the event. 9. The Panel of Appeal: An appeal which shall be in writing can be submitted not later than 30 minutes after the event has ended. The Appeal Committee will accept no appeal after the competition being declared closed. The fee of $100.00 is refundable if the appeal is upheld, but is otherwise nonrefundable. The decision of the Appeal Committee is final. 10. Drawing lots: computer based. 11. The winner is determined in every age group by the highest score. If the number of competitors in the event is 4 or more, the first three will be awarded. If the number is 3, the first two will be awarded. If the number is 2, the first will be awarded. If there is only one competitor, the event will be regarded as an exhibition and no position will be decided. 1st place: medal, certificate 2nd place: medal, certificate 3rd place: medal, certificate 12. NSW state champions are determined for each age group by the sum of scores for three events: best of barehand forms, best of short weapons, best of long weapons. Trophy, certificate 13. Registration fee: (1). 1 st Event - $30 (AKWF member), $35 (others) (2). 2 nd Event - $20 (AKWF member), $25 (others) (3). Each Additional Event - $15 per entry (AKWF member), $20 (others) (4). Duel Event - $30 (AKWF member), $40 (others) (5). Group Event - $50 per team per event (AKWF member), $60 (others) The registration fee is to be paid to Australian Kung Fu (Wushu) Federation Inc NSW Branch (please make sure that it is exactly what is written on money orders or cheques banks insist on that!). Registration fees are non-refundable. The entry form must be received no later than 18 April 2008. 14. Participation conditions: participants shall be responsible for their own travelling expenses and accommodation, meals and personal equipment. 15. Additional information will be uploaded onto the AKWF Website, and sent directly to the participants. 16. The Organising Committee reserves the right to adjust, cancel or change any event if deemed necessary. 17. Coming to Niagara Park from the North: make sure that you exit F3 at Ourimbah and follow the Gosford direction, then take the right turn into Railway Crescent and follow it to the Niagara Park Shopping centre (The Central Coast Youth Club is right behind it). Coming to Niagara Park from the South (Sydney): make sure that after exiting F3 (Gosford exit) you take the left turn at the West Gosford (at the second set of traffic lights after winding descent) into Manns Rd which will bring you to the Niagara Park Shopping centre (The Central Coast Youth Club is right behind it).
