Newsletter 8 th December 2017 ~ Issue 12 Website: www.carisbrooke.iow.sch.uk Twitter: @CarisbrookeColl Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome to this week s newsletter. We have less than two weeks to go until the end of term, and we still have a lot of activities and events happening. Please note that the last day of term is Thursday 21st December and school will finish at 3.30pm as normal. Christmas Jumper Day is on the final week of term. To tie in with our festivities, we will be holding this day on Wednesday 20th December the school s Christmas dinner day. Students will pay 1 to wear a Christmas jumper over their uniform instead of a blazer please note this is not a general mufti day. Please see the information regarding the purchasing of a Christmas dinner further in the newsletter the deadline for booking a meal is Wednesday 15th December. I am pleased to inform you that all students in Year 7 will be receiving a free Christmas Dinner, paid for by the college. Please ensure that your son/daughter has informed their form tutor whether they would like the Christmas dinner and also if there are any dietary requirements further information will be given to the students in assembly on Monday. An exciting reminder that the Winter Showcase is on Thursday 14th December at 7.00pm. This production is a celebration of dance, music and drama arranged by Mr Ansell and Mrs Hawtin. Refreshments will be available and there will be a collection on the door. Do please come and join with us to appreciate the many talents of our students. Please see more details in the newsletter. I am delighted to inform you that we have a new Chairperson and Secretary of the Carisbrooke Parent Voice. Mrs Claire Roberts, whose son is in Year 9, has agreed to be the Chairperson, and Mrs Helen Kalaker, whose son is in Year 8, has also agreed to be the Secretary. These are exciting times for the Parent Voice which is your opportunity to become more involved with the school and have your say about any issues which you may want to discuss with us. The date of the next meeting will be Wednesday 7th February 2018 more details will follow closer to the time. I would like to wish our Year 11 Mock Trial Team the best of luck with their competition on Saturday at the IW Magistrates Court. This is a national competition where students assume the roles of barristers, witnesses and the defendant. Good luck! May I, once again, take this opportunity to thank you for your support in ensuring that our students are arriving at school ready to learn and supporting us with our uniform expectations. Please have a safe and enjoyable weekend. Robert Maddox Head of School

Girls Football Last week the U15 girls played their final game of the season against Ryde Academy taking a 6-0 win. The girls were sat at the top of the table with Sandown having just one game left to play. Fortunately for Carisbrooke, Christ the King took a 2-0 win over Sandown leaving Carisbrooke as the winners of the U15 league! Please pass on your congratulations to the girls who have played consistently well all season and are deserved winners: U15 Girls Football Team: Ellie Ansell, Megan Hall, Molly Harris, Beth Harvey, Emma Higgs, Meisha McFarlane, Isobel Outram, Shannon Ross, Georgia Snudden, Bethan Stafford-Bower, Rhianna Vernon, Sasha Wherry and Mia Wragg. On Monday night the U13 girls football team played two games over at Sandown. In their first game against Cowes, the girls worked well as a team moving the ball well and staying disciplined in their positions. It wasn t long before they created space, allowing Molly through on goal to take the girls 1-0 up. Shortly after, Jess managed, to take it past the defender and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. Cowes pulled one back, and Carisbrooke responded with a second goal from Jess to clinch a 3 1 win. In their second game, Carisbrooke faced a very strong Sandown side. Despite their best efforts, Carisbrooke were trailing 3 0 at the end of the first half. With a quick change of positions the girls went out and played a much better game in the second half. Isobel, Macie and Kayleigh did a remarkable job at the back with Rhiannan making some phenominal saves allowing Carisbrooke to keep a clean sheet in the second half. With a strong defence Carisbrooke were able to go on the attack. Jess went down on the edge of the box but managed to head the ball into the goal on her way down, pulling a goal back for Carisbrooke. The girls were keen to keep moving forward and shortly after Molly scored her second goal of the night taking the final score to 3 2. U13 Girls Football Team: Molly Feltham, Daisy-May Peach, Amy Pavey, Rhiannon Stafford-Bower, Jess Starkey, Isobel Outram, Macie Edkins-Wherry, Carmen Priddle, Sophie Stevens, Kayley Hayward, Beth Taylor, Paige Driscoll, Jess Hunter-Case and Sophie Ford.
