THE IOC ADM The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is an international non profit-making non-governmental organization of unlimited duration. Its headquarters is in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IOC s mission is to lead the Olympic Movement. Pursuant to the Olympic Charter, the organs of the IOC are the session of IOC members, the Executive Board and the President. The general assembly of IOC members, called the «session», is the supreme body which adopts, modifies and interprets the Olympic Charter, and its decisions are final. PRESIDENT'S PERSONAL SECRETARIAT Head: Annie Inchauspé (France) She is the one you always see walking behind the President, and who knows by heart the «Who s Who», of the Olympic Movement. Conscientious and meticulous, she performs her many tasks with the assistance of Suzie Reavey (England). four vice presidents and six other members. Among other things, the Executive Board assumes ultimate responsibility for the IOC administration. The President presides over all activities of the IOC and represents it permanently. He also chairs the sessions and meetings of the Executive Board. The IOC administration is split between the Château de Vidy - Olympic House -, the Olympic Museum and the Centennial Villa, under the coordination of a director general and secretary general. Olympic Solidarity and the Coin Programme are located in two separate premises. The IOC administration comprises several departments, sections and services. The aim of this article is to give a better idea of staff members who deal directly with the IOC members, International Federations, National Olympic Committees, inter- and non-governmental organizations, the media, sponsors, etc. But those whose work is more behind the scenes make no less a contribution to the development of the Olympic Movement. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION DEPARTMENT Responsible in particular for relations and cooperation with international systems, especially that of the United Nations; relations and cooperation with governmental and non-governmental organizations in the educational, social, humanitarian, political and professional spheres; education files, development and environment issues; and special or ad hoc projects entrusted by the President. The director has the following assistants responsible for specific tasks and files: Sylvie Espagnac, Katia Mascagni and Corinne Liardon of Switzerland, administrative assistant for all the areas of which he is in charge. Director General: François Carrard (Switzerland). As delegated by the Executive Board, the Director General is responsible for the IOC administration in accordance with the instructions given by the President. He helps the President to prepare the deliberations of the Executive Board and the Session. As Director General, he is an ex officio DIRECTOR GENERAL S OFFICE François Carrard Olympic Foundation Board, he additionally acts as secretary to the boards of the Olympic Foundation and Olympic Museum Foundation. MARKETING DEPARTMENT Director: Michael Payne (England) In charge of commercial policy, implementation and follow-up of the TOP programme, and supervision of the use of Olympic marks. CONTROL AND COORDINATION OF OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT Director: Thierry Sprunger (Switzerland) He provides general control and coordination of operations, particularly in the context of finance and administration, and is assisted by Tina Bloudanis (Switzerland). MEDICAL COMMISSION DEPARTMENT Patrick Schamasch Elvira Ramini Director: Patrick Schamasch (France) Responsible for the follow up of all files relating to sports medicine issues, laboratory accreditation or reaccreditation, sports medicine courses. publication of the Sports Medicine Encyclopaeclia, harmonization of the IOC and IF lists of doping substances and the organization of scientific congresses. He works in close cooperation with the organizing committees of the Olympic Games on doping and all other medical controls. The Medical Commission office is staffed by Elvira Ramini (Yugoslavia), who is assisted by Hayat Contini (Morocco). OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY DEPARTMENT Anselmo Lopez Myriam Gross-Traverso Director: Anselmo Lopez (Spain) This department administers the Olympic Solidarity funds, which derive principally from the 9.7% share of television rights income that the IOC allocates exclusively to the National Olympic Committees. In other words, it manages the redistribution of funds in the form of direct assistance and development programmes. The director is assisted by Myriam Gross-Traverso (Switzerland ), head of department; Pamela Vipond (England), responsible for Africa, Europe, Oceania and relations with the International Federations; Beatrix Hurst (Switzerland), responsible for America and Asia and the itinerant school; and Nicole Savoy (Switzerland), accountant.
