After the Redbirds made 8-of-15 from the field in the first quarter, the Braves held Illinois State to 15-of-43 (34.9 percent) over the final 30 minutes. Junior Danielle Brewer made all three of her threepoint attempts and had 14 points as she helped Bradley shoot a season-best 60 percent from beyond the arc. Junior Anneke Schlueter added 12 points of her own in the victory. MVC Tournament History Bradley is 6-25 (.194) all-time in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after edging Wichita State 56-51 in the opening round of last year s event before a 45-46 loss to eventual champion Northern Iowa in the quarterfinals. The Braves are 4-9 (.308) since the Valley Tournament has been held at a neutral location and Bradley is 5-17 (.227) in neutral site tournament games all-time. Bradley has advanced out of the opening round four of the last seven times the Braves have played on the first day of the tournament and will be trying to make consecutive quarterfinal appearances for the first time since a five-year stretch ended in 2012-13. Bradley has reached the quarterfinals in seven of the 11 seasons the Valley Tournament has been a 10-team event. The Braves are 1-2 all-time as the #7 seed, reaching the quarterfinals in 2006-07 as the seven seed and falling in the 2001-02 quarterfinals to Drake. home cooking Senior Leti Lerma had quite the homecoming at last year s inaugural MVC Tournament in the Quad Cities, turning in double-doubles in both outings. Lerma had 10 points, 10 boards, two assists and a pair of steals in last season s opening round victory against Wichita State. The Muscatine, Iowa, native came back the next day to tally 16 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and three steals as Bradley came one point short of its first Valley semifinal appearance since 2009 with one-point loss to UNI. Third time is the charm For the third consecutive year Bradley will enter a first-round MVC Tournament matchup looking to complete a three-game sweep. Last year the Braves topped Wichita State 56-51 in the opening round to sweep the three games in 2015-16 from the Shockers. Since the MVC started holding the league tournament at a neutral site in 2007-08, Bradley has played six of its 13 games against a team which it swept in the regular season. In fact, Thursday s contest against Loyola will be the eighth Valley tournament game since 2006-07 against a team the Braves swept the regularseason series. Bradley is 4-3 in the MVC Tournament against teams it swept during the regular season during that 10-year span. Below is a chart detailing the series in which Bradley swept the regular season and also faced that team at the MVC Tournament. taking care of the ball Part of Bradley s late season success, which saw the Braves go 5-5 in their last 10 games after a 6-13 start to the year, was due to cutting down on turnovers. Bradley had 15 or less turnovers a total of 13 times in 2016-17, with six of those coming in the final 10 contests. The Braves are 5-1 in their last six outings in which they had 15 or fewer turnovers. Bradley averaged 14.8 turnovers per game in the final 10 games, compared to 16.9 turnovers in the first 19 outings. better the second time around The Braves have made a habit of posting a better record in the second half of league action and 2016-17 season was no different with Bradley going 4-5 the second time through the Valley after a 3-6 first half. This season s improvement marked the seventh consecutive year and 11th time in the last 12 seasons the Braves were better in the second half. Bradley has matched or exceeded its first-half MVC win total in each of the last 15 years dating back to the 2001-02 season, including this season. During the 15-year stretch, Bradley has tallied 44 wins in the first half of league play compared to 64 in the second half. The March 4 victory against Illinois State gave Bradley its best overall (11) and MVC (7) win totals since finishing the 2012-13 season with a 14-16 overall record and 8-10 league mark. In addition, first-year head coach Andrea Gorski and the Braves posted the first three-game improvement in conference play under a first-year head coach in program history. going out with a bang Senior Leti Lerma saved one of the best performances of her career for her final home game as she highlighted Sunday s 70-59 victory over I-74 rival Illinois State with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go with 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Lerma s performance was the first 20-point, 10-rebound, six-assist and four-steal effort by a Bradley player since Tammy Van Oppen s triple double performance against Southern Illinois on Dec. 31, 1996. Lerma has scored 10 points or grabbed 10 or more rebounds in all eight career games against Illinois State and has career averages of 10.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game vs. the Redbirds. Heating up from long range Junior Danielle Brewer has scored 10 or more points in three consecutive games and four of the last five. During that five-game stretch she has made 8-of-15 from three-point range and averaged 10.4 points per outing. In fact since her careerbest scoring output of 18 in the home win against Indiana State back on Feb. 5, Brewer has scored 10.5 points per game (8 games) and connected on 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) from beyond the arc. She was averaging 7.7 points and shooting 18.2 percent from three-point territory prior to the 10-game outburst. back with a vengeance Since missing the Feb. 12 game at Drake with an injury, senior Leti Lerma has returned to the lineup to average 18.8 points on 53 percent shooting, 10.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists and nearly two steals per game in the last five contests. Over her last nine games, she has scored 16.0 points per outing to go with 12.7 rebounds per game. Lerma has collected five of her 11 double-doubles during the nine-game stretch and finished one point or rebound short of three other double-doubles during that stretch. to markert we will go Sophomore Vanessa Markert has been one of Bradley s most consistent offensive threats down the stretch, scoring in double figures in three of the last four games (14.5 ppg) and five of the last seven (12.9 ppg). In fact in the second half of the MVC schedule, Markert topped 20 points twice and averaged 13.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. After scoring 10 or more points in seven of the first 16 games of 2016-17, she reached double figures in scoring in nine of the last 13 outings and shot 49.3 percent from the field during that span. ending with a win Bradley capped the regular season with a victory for the first time since 2013-14 and will head into the MVC Tournament off a victory for just the second time in six years. The Braves have won their first Valley Tournament game two of the last three times they capped the regular season with a victory. Bradley has now won the final home game of the season in four consecutive years. Lerma breaks rebound mark Senior Leti Lerma became Bradley s career rebounding leader with her 800th career board in the Feb. 26 game at Southern Illinois and has her eyes set on the Braves single-season rebounding mark. Lerma s 818 career rebounds are 23rd in Missouri Valley Conference history. Currently 14th nationally in rebounds per game at 10.6 rpg, Lerma needs two boards for just the third 300 rebound season in school history and is 11 from breaking Bradley s season mark of 308. Lerma is two rebounds from becoming just the fourth MVC player in the last 20 years with 325 points, 300 rebounds, 55 assists, 15 blocks and 35 or more steals. 2016-17 MVC Standings as of March 9 MVC Overall School W-L Pct. In fact, eight of Bradley s 15 road games this year have had a margin of three points or less in the final two minutes of the contest and Bradley s three MVC wins by six points or fewer are the most since 2014-15.

Triple Threat Senior Leti Lerma has taken over as Bradley s leading scorer at 11.6 points per game, but sophomore Vanessa Markert has averaged 12.9 points per outing on nearly 50 percent shooting over the last 13 games to become the first Bradley underclassman with 300 points since Shronda Butts (363 points as a sophomore in 2012-13). Johnson s 88 assists rank fourth among Bradley freshman marks and her 48 steals would be sixth among school freshman records. The last MVC freshman with at least 88 assists and 45 or more steals was Evansville s Dakota Weatherford in 2013-14. In fact, Johnson was the first Bradley player with 65 assists and 30 or more steals in MVC play since Skye Johnson in 2008-09 and joined Jen Brown (2003-04) as the only freshmen in school history with those numbers in league play. rare sweep The Feb. 17 62-56 home win against Missouri State gave Bradley the first regular-season series sweep of the Bears since 2008-09 and gave the Braves 10 wins in a season for the first time since 2012-13. In 34 years of sharing conference membership, Bradley had swept Missouri State just three times prior to 2016-17. The victory matched the longest home win streak (4) in the seven-year history of Renaissance Coliseum. freshman phenom Freshman Chelsea Brackmann turned in her own rebounding record in the Feb. 26 game at Southern Illinois. Brackmann had her second double-double of the year (10 points & 12 rebounds) off the bench as she broke the school freshman rebounding mark of 174 held by Heather Best (1995-96). Through games of March 5, Brackmann and Joyner Holmes of Texas, who was listed as the #1 recruit in the country last season, are the only freshmen in the nation to collect 225 points, 190 rebounds, 40 assists, 30 blocks and at least 15 steals. In fact, Brackmann is the only freshman in the MVC to tally those totals since at least the 1995-96 season. 1-2 Punch Junior Anneke Schlueter scored 18 of her gamehigh 22 points in the second half of the 62-56 victory over Missouri State (Feb. 17) and senior Leti Lerma added 21 points of her own. Bradley had two players with 20 or more points in a game for the first time since Michelle Young (32) and Kelsey Budd (23) in a Nov. 8, 2013 home win against Illinois. The last time two Braves reached 20 points against a Valley opponent was an overtime loss to Evansville in the MVC Tournament semifinals on March 14, 2009. In addition, the last time two Bradley players scored 20 or more in the same regular-season MVC contest was at Creighton on March 2, 2006 (Devyn Flanagan - 23 points & Ashley Chelleen - 20 points). cleaning the glass Senior Leti Lerma turned in her seventh consecutive double-digit rebounding effort against Missouri State (Feb. 17) with 17 boards against the Bears. Lerma was the first Bradley player with 10 or more rebounds in seven consecutive games since Carrie Coffman had nine consecutive outings in 1994-95. Lerma has topped 10 rebounds a league-high 16 times this season for the third best season total in school history. Her season total of 298 boards is the third-best in school history and she needs two more rebounds for the just the third 300 rebound season in program history and 22nd in MVC history. 10+ Rebound games (Season) Rank Name (Year) 10+Reb. Brackmann now owns the Bradley freshman marks for made free throws and free throw attempts, recently breaking both records in addition to breaking Bradley s freshman rebounding record Feb. 26 at Southern Illinois. Two of Bradley s MVC games went to overtime with the win against the Bears snapping a three-game losing streak in overtime contests for the Braves. Bradley has not played two overtime games in the same season since 2008-09 and the last time the Braves won a Valley road game in overtime was Feb. 11, 2007 at Evansville. bench sparks rally Bradley s reserves combined for 47 points and had 16 consecutive points to help lead the team s rally from a 12-point third quarter deficit in the overtime victory at Missouri State. The Braves had three players score 15 or more points off the bench in the same game for what is believed to be the first time in program history (complete box scores prior to 1983-84 unavailable). The 12-point comeback was Bradley s largest deficit overcome on the road since rallying from 18 down at SEMO on Nov. 11, 2013 and it was the first time the Braves came back from 12 or more at a Valley opponent since Jan. 13, 2005 (at Evansville). road warriors Bradley s overtime victory at Missouri State was the fourth road win of the season for the Braves. The four road victories are the most for Bradley since 2012-13 (6) and the Braves last had two or more Valley road victories in 2014-15. In nine trips to JQH Arena, Bradley has four road victories. Only Northern Iowa (6) has more road victories in Springfield, Mo., since JQH Arena opened for the 2008-09 season. stepping up in valley play Freshmen Chelsea Brackmann and Alona Johnson have both been regulars in Bradley s starting lineup since the start of Missouri Valley Conference play with both individuals starting at least 11 Valley contests. Brackmann averaged 7.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game against Valley opponents. A member of the school s Athletics Hall of Fame as one of the best players in the history of Bradley Women s Basketball, Andrea (McAllister) Gorski returned to The Hilltop when she was named the ninth head coach in program history in April 2016. Gorski returns to her alma mater from Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois, where she spent the last three years as associate head coach on former Bradley assistant Cindy Stein s staff. During Gorski s time in Carbondale, Southern Illinois improved its overall and conference records in each of her three seasons, culminating in the first 20- win season for the Salukis in almost a decade, as well as the program s first postseason appearance andrea gorski Bradley 92 First Season as Bradley Head Coach Education: Bradley 92 (B.S.) College Coaching Experience: 2016- Bradley Head Coach 2013-16 Southern Illinois Associate Head Coach 2008-13 Concordia (MI) Head Coach 1992-93 Bradley Graduate Assistant Career Record: 117-77 (Sixth Season) Conference Record: 65-37 since 2007. The Salukis had won a total of 15 games and just five MVC contests in the three years prior to Gorski s arrival at SIU, but have racked up 37 wins and 22 conference victories in the last two seasons. A native of Dearborn Heights, MI, Gorski boasts 20 years of coaching experience, including 17 years as a head coach at the collegiate and high school levels. Before joining Stein s staff at Southern Illinois, Gorski was head coach at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI, from 2008-13. In just five seasons, she became the winningest coach in the program s history. Inheriting a team which had never made the NAIA national tournament, Gorski s squads reached the NAIA Tournament each of her last three seasons and made consecutive Sweet 16 appearances in 2012 and 2013. During her tenure with the Cardinals, the two-time conference coach-ofthe-year selection led Concordia to a 106-59 (.667) overall mark and 58-28 (.674) conference record. In fact, Gorski s teams combined for an 80-24 (.769) overall record and 48-8 (.857) league record in her last three seasons at the school. In addition to leading Concordia to its best national ranking in program history, Gorski s achievements included mentoring three first-team All-Americans and three conference players of the year. Off the court, she served as Interim Director of Athletics at Concordia during the 2011-12 school Gorski Year-by-Year Record year and was Associate Director of Athletics for her final three seasons. Gorski entered coaching shortly after graduating from Bradley in 1992 with a degree in business management and administration, serving as a graduate assistant for the Braves in 1992-93 before venturing into the private sector. She returned to coaching three years later, taking over as head coach of Ladywood High School in February 1996. She led her squad to a 184-99 (.650) record in 12 seasons at the Livonia, MI, school and the Blazers claimed 11 district titles and a pair of conference championships during her prep coaching career. Gorski was a threetime Catholic League Coach of the Year and was selected as the state coach of the year in 2005 by the Associated Press, Detroit Free Press and Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. A 1996 Bradley Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Gorski was a first-team All-Gateway Conference selection as a senior in 1991-92. Her sophomore season included a school-record 12 conference victories and her final three seasons mark the only time in program history the Braves finished in the top half of the league standings in three consecutive seasons. Gorski finished her career ninth in scoring at Bradley with 980 career points and she still is 18th all-time in scoring on The Hilltop. She shared the 1992 Charles Orsborn Award with baseball player Matt Quinn after averaging 14.7 points per game as a senior. Gorski still ranks among the Bradley career top 10 in three-point field goals (5th), assists (4th), starts (T8th) and minutes played (8th). Gorski has two children, Luke and Kiley. Kiley Gorski was a member of the Southern Illinois women s basketball team and served as a student assistant coach in 2015-16. Overall Conference Season School W L Pct.
