GENERAL: App B McDougall was fined the sum of $50 under LR68 for failing to produce a letter of authority. RACE 1: SHARPE FULLGRABE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2000M Dapperized When questioned regarding her tactics and the racing manners of her mount, rider app Ms M Nakao stated that her instructions were to lead and if her mount over-raced, to not fight her mount but rather allow it to race comfortably. She added that leaving the straight on the first occasion, her mount commenced to hang out and as a consequence raced wide until near the 1100m where she was finally able to steer the gelding back to the inside rail. She added that bearing in mind her instructions, in the middle stages, as her mount was also pulling hard she did not make a concerted attempt to restrain her mount and was aware that she had opened up a substantial break on the field. She further added that when her mount continued to hang, from the 600m she slapped her mount down its left shoulder in a partial attempt to prevent it from shifting ground, however her mount then ran extremely wide making the home turn and in the straight. Trainer Mr G Spackman confirmed the instructions issued but expressed some disappointment that the gelding was obliged to cover excessive ground rounding the home turn but conceded that the gelding could be a difficult horse to ride. Whilst Stewards accepted that the geldings racing manners were the reason for it covering excessive ground in the early and middle stages and had contributed to it racing wide rounding the home turn and in the straight, app M Nakao was told that it was apparent that she had not made sufficient effort to prevent her mount from running wide rounding the home turn and that in similar circumstances she would be expected to ride her mounts much more competitively. In all the circumstances and on the assurance from Mr Spackman that he would engage a senior rider for the gelding in future, a warning regarding the gelding s racing manners, was recorded only. A postrace veterinary examination of the mare gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Standoubt Leaving the straight on the first occasion was taken wider by Dapperized. Illyrian When questioned regarding the performance of the mare, rider M Heagney stated that his mount travelled well until the 600m, but did not respond to his riding from this point and proved disappointing in the straight. Sand Dune When questioned, rider J Penza stated that his mount travelled well on the speed until near the home turn where it did not respond to his riding and weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off-hind leg. Trainer Mr K Weir was told that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again. RACE 8: DELEGATE HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP No When To Hold Em Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Dashing Duncan. 1200M Dashing Duncan Bumped on jumping by No When To Hold Em, which shifted in.
I ve Got This When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, rider B Ward stated that today his mount was unusually stirred up prior to the race. He added that whilst he was instructed to be handy, after being a little slow to begin and when trapped wide in the early stages, he eased his mount to obtain a position closer to the rail where his mount had cover but consequently raced further back than intended. He further added that when placed under pressure in the straight his mount did not respond to his riding and whilst the gelding had won on a heavy track at Wagga on 30 August 2016, the gelding had the first use of the track on that day, being the opening event, but today may not have been comfortable on todays worn surface. Trainer Mr M Dale concurred with the views of his rider and undertook to report any condition which may become apparent in the day s subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Croix De Vie When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding which was resuming, rider app A Sweeney stated that his instructions were to ride his mount positively out of the gates to obtain a position mid-field but to then allow the gelding to race comfortably. He added that after being slow to begin his mount settled last, however bearing in mind his instructions, whilst he was aware that his mount was some distance off the back of the body of the field, he did not unduly pressure his mount in the early stages. He added passing the 800m when positioned to the inside of the heels of Tumut River Cod, his mount then had to be steadied when crowded by that runner, which momentarily shifted in. He further added that when placed under pressure from the 600m his mount responded and found the line well. Trainer Mr P Jones confirmed the instructions and whilst he stated that the gelding was resuming in a race, short in distance to that which would be more to the gelding s liking, he was surprised that the gelding raced so far back in the early stages. Rider app A Sweeney was told in the view of Stewards, that notwithstanding the instructions issued, namely to allow his mount to travel comfortably, he had erred in that when it was apparent that his mount had lost touch with the body of the field in the early and middle stages, he should have made effort to improve onto the back of the field.
