ADAC MX Masters - new 125cc, 2-stroke engine class from 2018 18 August 2017
History Launched in 2005, the ADAC MX Masters draws largely on the riders pool of the ADAC MX Junior Cup. The MX Junior Cup has been an 85cc class since its introduction in 1996. Riders aged at least 14, with a valid licence and 4-stroke engine motorcycles up to 450cc, are eligible to compete in the Masters class. In 2006, the ADAC MX Youngster Cup class was integrated for riders between the ages of 14 and 21 on 125cc, 2-stroke motorcycles and on 250cc, 4-stroke motorcycles. 2
Developments in recent years ADAC MX Youngster Cup: MX Junior Cup riders are increasingly switching from 125cc, 2-stroke motorcycles to the 125 European Cup. Knowing they would not stand a chance against the more powerful 250cc, 4-stroke motorcycles, they do not compete in our Youngster Cup. This has caused the series to lose many top talents to other championships. In 2017, we tried to integrate more young riders again by introducing a modified qualification scheme. So far, this has shown effects. However, there has been some criticism from 4-stroke riders who feel they are being edged out of the races by seemingly slower 2-stroke riders. ADAC MX Junior Cup: Slight decrease in the number of 85cc riders since 2013. As a consequence, the ADAC MX Junior Cup races have unfortunately seen an increasing number of less talented riders participate. 3
New in 2018 By creating the ADAC 125cc Junior Cup, we will integrate an important class for young riders into the ADAC MX Masters that is essential to their development. The newly created 125cc class for a maximum of 48 riders can be integrated into the existing MX Masters schedule by re-organising the ADAC MX Junior Cup class. The ADAC MX Junior Cup class will also be limited to no more than 48 participants. Well-known riders will be selected at entry close. The other riders can be selected in a screening/preparatory training course. This will improve the quality of the riders field. There will be no last chance races for the 85cc and 125cc classes. The first 85cc class race will already take place on Saturday afternoon. At noon on Sunday, the second 85cc race will follow. With one attractive race already taking place on Saturday, there is the positive side effect that young riders can travel back home sooner for a more relaxed return to school the following Monday. 4
Selection criteria In both, the ADAC 125 MX Junior Cup and the ADAC 85 MX Junior Cup, only the best riders will be eligible for starting places. For this purpose, their previous year s results from the ADAC MX Junior, the EMX and other national championships will be evaluated in order to allocate approx. 40 starting places directly. New riders or riders whose skill level is as yet unknown will be invited to an attractive training/screening course and rated by our well-known instructors (Bernd Eckenbach, Didi Lacher and Marcus Schiffer). The best riders in the course will also receive permanent starting places. Anyone who does not receive a permanent starting place, will get their chance to start via the waiting list. 5
