Rochester Yacht Club Sonar Class Association Sonar North American Championship August 10-13, 2006 Rochester, New York USA 2/23/06 NOTICE OF RACE 1 RULES 1.1 The Organizing Authority and host is the Rochester Yacht Club 1.2 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.3 The prescriptions of the US SAILING will apply. 1.4 The Equipment Rules of Sailing will apply. 1.5 The regatta is a Sonar Class Association sanctioned event. 2 ADVERTISING The Sonar Class is classified as Category C. 3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 The regatta is open to all competitors who meet the International Sonar Class Association eligibility requirements (By-Laws Article XII B12.00). 3.2 Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached entry form and sending it, together with the required fee, to Skip Shumway c/o Rochester Yacht Club by August 1, 2006. 3.3 Entries received after August 1, 2006 will be charged a $100 late fee. 4 CLASSIFICATION The ISAF Sailor Classification Code will not apply. 5 FEES 5.1 Required fees are as follows: Class Fee Sonar $295 USD The Entry fee includes launch, docking, continental breakfast for Fri., Sat., Sun., four dinner tickets for Fri. and Sat, post-race refreshments, applicable taxes and haul out. 5.2 Other fees: Additional tickets can be purchased with the entry fee: Friday Dinner $ 25 Saturday Dinner $ 25

All sails not previously measured at a Class sanctioned event shall be measured. 9 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available at RYC on Thursday August 10, 2006 during registration. 10 VENUE 10.1 Location of the racing areas is Lake Ontario north of the harbor entrance to the Genesee River

11 THE COURSES 11.1 The course shall be a Windward Leeward configuration that may utilize a leeward gate and/or a windward offset mark. 12 SCORING 12.1 The Low Point scoring system RRS Appendix A will be used, as changed by the SCA Class Rules. Each Boat will exclude her worst race score from her series only if six or more races are completed. This Changes RRS 89.3 and Appendix A2. 12.2 Three races will constitute a series. A maximum number of 11 races will be sailed. 13 BERTHING Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the Rochester harbor area. 14 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS 14.1 All boats shall be afloat before 2200 on Thursday, August 10, 2006 and shall not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the race committee PRO. 14.2 Hauling of boats at completion of the regatta shall be done in ascending order of bow number. The organizing authority will attempt to assign bow numbers by the distance the boat has to travel immediately following completion of the regatta. Boats that register after August 1st, 2006 may not receive haul-out priority. 15 DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around boats between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta. 16 RADIO COMMUNICATION A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 17 PRIZES Prizes will be given awarded to the skipper and crew of the first five boats in the series. 18 MEDIA RIGHTS Competitors give absolute right and permission for video footage or photographs of themselves or their boat to be published in any media for press purposes and editorial or advertising purposes. 19 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY 19.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. 19.2 The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 19.3 Skippers and crew will be required to sign a waiver of liability during registration 20 INSURANCE 20.1 The safety of a boat and her entire management shall be the sole inescapable responsibility of the owner or owners representative. 20.2 The boat is required to hold adequate third-party insurance, and it is the owner or owners representative s sole and inescapable responsibility to ensure that the insurance is in place and is adequate prior to participating in this event. The Organizing Authority may ask for a copy of your insurance binder.

Boats may be launched before and hauled out after the regatta using RYCs two permanent hoists. The fleet will be moored at RYC. From Buffalo and Points West to RYC: Route I-90 (NYS Thruway) to Exit #47 (Rochester/Leroy Exit, Route 490). Route 490 East to Route 390 North. 390 North ends at the Lake Ontario State Parkway. Head East on the Lake Ontario State Parkway. Follow until Lake Ontario State Parkway ends at Lake Avenue. Cross the Colonel Patrick O'Rorke Bridge which is straight ahead. O Rorke Bridge connects to Pattonwood Drive. At the end of Pattonwood Drive, make a left onto St. Paul Boulevard at the Traffic Light. Go to the end of St. Paul Boulevard. At the rotary, bear left around the circle and enter the Rochester Yacht Club. From the East, via New York State Thruway Take the New York State Thruway to exit 45. Follow 490 west to the 590 north split and proceed north (bear right at the 490/590 fork) Follow 590 north to Durand Boulevard and turn left. (The second traffic light after Ridge Road East. You will see a large Water Tower on the right and a small sign that says Durand Eastman Park). This will take you through Durand Park. Go Slow! There are three sharp turns in a row and the park is full of local police. At the intersection of Lakeshore Blvd. and St.Paul take a right turn. (this is a SLOW turn.) Go under the small railroad overpass (12 feet, 6 inches clearance) and follow St. Paul around to the left. Turn left onto Parkview Terrace to the club s entrance to the dry sail area. If you miss all these turns- go to end of St. Paul Blvd. (Circle) and main entrance to RYC Follow the signs to the RYC dry sail area. From the East, via Route 31 Follow 31 West across the Irondequoit Bay Bridge and bear right ( Rt.104 west). Take the Culver Road exit to the right, go right at the stop. Follow Culver Road straight North to the intersection of Culver and Lakeshore. Take a left onto Lakeshore and continue through Durand Park. From there follow the italicized directions above.
