SB20 AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017 FRIDAY 8 DECEMBER TO MONDAY 11 DECEMBER NOTICE OF RACE Organising Authority: The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania & the Derwent Sailing Squadron [DP] Means a penalty that is at the discretion of the Jury. [NP] Means that a breach of this rule will not be subject to a protest by a boat. 1. Rules 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). 1.2 Class Rule C.5.1 is deleted and replaced with the safety equipment list in Appendix C of this Notice of Race. 1.3 Appendix P of the rules will apply, with P2.1 changed to one turn only. P2.3 is deleted and P2.2 will apply to all infringements of rule 42 after the first infringement. 2. Advertising [DP] [NP] 2.1 Advertising is permitted in accordance with WS Regulation 20 (Appendix 1 Advertising). 2.2 The Organising Authority reserves the right to refuse advertising by any boat, if it is considered offensive to public taste or if it contravenes the laws of the governments of Tasmania or Australia. 2.3 Competitors may be required to display event sponsor s names(s)/logo(s). If required, the Organising Authority will supply these items and they shall be affixed as prescribed in the Sailing Instructions. 2.4 Boats will be required to display bow numbers as supplied by the organising authority. 3. Eligibility and Entry 3.1 The Regatta is open to SB20 class boats affiliated with the SB20 Class Association. Skippers and crews shall be members of a Club affiliated with Australian Sailing, or if international competitors, with their Member National Authority. 3.2 Eligible boats may enter by completing an on-line entry by Friday 1 December 2017. 3.3 Late entries will be accepted by payment of an additional AUD50 up to 1600 on Thursday 7 December 2017. 3.4 On-line entry www.revolutionise.com.au/ryct/events/10374/ 4. There is a maximum of 10 races scheduled with no more than four races on any day. 6. Sailing Instructions Sailing Instructions will be issued by 09:00 on Friday 8 December 2017 and will be available at the regatta office and on the SB20 website http://www.sb20.com.au/ 7. Measurement [DP] [NP] All boats and equipment shall be available for measurement where the following measurements will be taken: a) Crew weighing according to the SB20 Class Measurement Rules. For this item the full crew shall be presented at the same time. b) Safety and Equipment checks. c) Boats should be prepared for full inspection, including hull weight control. d) Random measurement checks may be made during the regatta at the discretion of the Race Committee. 8. Regatta Venue and Racing Area See Appendix A for Regatta Venue. See Appendix B for Racing Area. 9. Courses Courses will be windward/leeward as described in the sailing instructions. 10. Scoring 10.1 Three races are required to be completed to constitute a series. There will be a maximum of 10 races. 10.2 When fewer than six races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. 10.3 When six races or more have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 11. Prizes Overall prizes for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd. First placed Women s (minimum 50% of crew must be female including the skipper) First placed Masters (skipper over 50 years of age and average age of crew over 50) First placed Youth (skipper under 26 years of age and average age of crew under 26) Age date is at 8 December 2017. Division prizes will be awarded to the highest placed Women s, Masters and Youth in the overall results in the whole fleet.

12. Charter Boats A limited number of charter boats are available from the local SB20 fleet. Anyone wishing to enquire about a charter boat should contact the Sailing Office of either of the Clubs on the email addresses listed below. 13. Support Boats [DP] [NP] 13.1 Support boats shall be marked with a numbered flag available from Registration following the payment of the support boat fee detailed in NoR 5.2 13.2 Support boats will be marked with a country flag of minimum size 50cm x 70cm. 13.3 A yacht shall receive no outside assistance from support boats or support persons or otherwise once she has left the dock for the day until the finish of the last race of the day, except in the case of emergency and/or towing where the Race Officer has communicated to the fleet that all competitors may accept a tow. For the avoidance of doubt, outside assistance includes verbal communication and the transfer of physical items. 13.4 At all times, support boats must be on call on VHF channel 10. 13.5 Penalties for breaking this rule will be at the discretion of the international jury up to and including disqualification of all boats associated with the team or private support boat. 13.6 In the State of Tasmania, the law requires that all occupants of powered craft under 6m in length shall wear an approved lifejacket at all times when underway. 14. Penalty System 14.1 Rule 44.1 is amended in that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required. 14.2 To encourage boats to take penalties afloat, rules observers may blow a whistle when they see what they believe to be a breach of a rule. 15. Trackers All boats shall be required to carry GPS trackers supplied by the Organising Authority. Instructions for use of tackers will be provided at Registration. 16. Radio Communication [DP] Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 17. Protests RRS Appendix T, Arbitration, applies to this regatta, amended so that the arbitrator may form part of any subsequent protest committee. Decisions of the national jury will be final as provided in rule 70.5. 18. Safety [DP] [NP] The Race Committee will operate on VHF Channel 10. All boats shall carry a working VHF radio and monitor Ch 10.

19. Disclaimer of Liability All those participating in the regatta races do so entirely at their own risk and responsibility. ATTENTION is drawn to RRS4 Decision to Race. The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, the Derwent Sailing Squadron, their executives, boards, servants, volunteers and agents and all other parties involved with the conduct and organisation of the event disclaim any and every responsibility for loss, damage, injury, death or inconvenience that might occur to persons or property, both ashore or afloat, as a consequence of participation in the race covered by this notice of race and by the sailing instructions. 20. Haulout Restriction [DP] [NP] Boats shall be launched by 1200 on Friday 8 December 2017 and shall not be hauled out during the regatta (wet regatta) except with prior permission of the Race Committee. SB20s will be berthed at RYCT and DSS. 21. Insurance [DP] [NP] Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $10,000,000. The Organising Authority has organised for third-party liability insurance cover to be available for purchase at Registration for competitors who do not already have AUD10,000,000. The cost of this cover will not exceed AUD120. 22. Appendix C Safety Equipment The present attachment C deletes entirely the SB20 Class Rule article C.5.1 (Mandatory Equipment) and replaces this deleted article with the Safety Equipment listed below. The following safety equipment shall be carried at all times: a) One anchor with a minimum of 1.5m of 6mm chain, weighing not less than 6kg including shackles. b) One non-floating line, not less than 30m long and 8mm diameter. c) One floating throwing line, not less than 10m long and 6mm diameter. d) Two paddles of combined minimum weight not less than 1 kg. e) One functioning VHF radio. f) First aid kit in waterproof container, consisting of: Soluble Asprin (e.g Disprin) x 20 Saline solution 30ml x 2 Disposable gloves x 10 Sunscreen 30+ SPF x 250ml Crepe Bandages 75mm x 1.5m x 2 S/S scissors x 1 Low absorbency non-adherent dressings (e.g. Melolin) x 2 1 x CPR mask or 6 x face shields Bandaids x 20 or roll of Bandaids
