BEACH KORFBALL PLAYING RULES INTRODUCTION Beah korfall is an attrative, highly strenuous and ompetitive korfall variant, espeially when played 3-3 at the top level of the sport. It is aimed to e played on the eah or other sand-surfae whih an e outdoor ut also indoor. These rules are ased on the last offiially pulished IKF Playing Rules & Guidane Notes ut modified as neessary. As the field is not divided into two halves, for the purposes of these rules a player of the team in possession of the all is onsidered to e an attaker. Setion 1: Field and Equipment 1.1 Playing area 1. The dimensions of the field of play is one zone 8 x 16 m (maximum 10 x 20 m) with 2 syntheti korfs, positioned at an equal distane from eah side line and 3m from the end line (see drawing elow). 2. The orders are marked with highly ontrasting lines or other speial markers. 3. If a stadium-format is used side-walls may e used for the oundary lines. The walls must e suffiiently high as to not e dangerous to a player. 1.2 Markings The field of play is learly marked out with highly ontrasting lines: - at least 3.0 m lines or other speial markers with a method of fixing to the ground whih annot ause any injury to any player. Sideline 16 metres 3 metres end line 8 metres

The post is plaed 3 metres from eah end line. Note: If using a field of play 20 x 10 m then the post will e positioned on 4 m from the end line. There will e no penalty spot marker, ut a virtual marker at 2.5 m from the post shall e used. It an help if a learly ontrasting oloured marker is plaed on oth sidelines to assist judgement of the penalty spot. There shall e four virtual free pass spots loated 2.50 m in front/ehind/to the left side /to the right side of the post. A virtual irle of radius 2.50 m shall e onsidered to e drawn using the hosen virtual spot as its entre. 1.3 Posts The post should e fixed into the sand or may e fixed to a suffiiently, heavy and large metal plate. The ase plate must e ompletely flat and at least 80 m in diameter, overed with at least 5 m of sand, so players annot e injured. 1.4 Korfs A korf is fitted to eah post. The korf must fae towards the entre of the field and all of its top edge must e 3.50 m aove the ground. The korfs must e ylindrial without a ottom; they should e 23.5-25.0 m high and have an inner diameter of 39.0-41.0 m on the upper side and 40.0-42.0 m on the ottom side. The rim (top edge) of the korf shall have a width of 2.0-3.0 m. The korfs should e made of an approved syntheti material (see IKF Korf Regulations). They must e similar and must e in a strong yellow or other ontrasting olour. The method of fixing the korfs to the post must satisfy the following onditions: no movement of the korf with respet to the post is permitted the post must not protrude aove the korf 1.5 Ball Korfall is played with a round numer 5 all of a type that has een approved y the IKF. The all shall e at least two-oloured. Its irumferene should e 68.0-70.5 m and the weight of the all must e in the range 445 g to 475 g inlusive. The all must e inflated to the presried pressure indiated on it so that when it is dropped onto the playing surfae from a height of aout 1.80 m, measured from the ottom of the all, it should reound to a height, measured to the top of the all, of etween 1.10 m and 1.30 m (measured on an indoor-hard ourt). A oloured outer asing is understood to e a all on whih a pattern is printed in a olour other than the asi olour of the all. This pattern must e so symmetrial that the all, whilst turning, does not lose the visual effet of atually eing round. 1.6 Equipment of players and offiials The players of eah side must e dressed in a uniform sports outfit that is suffiiently different from that of the other side and wearing shoes is not allowed. It is allowed to wear sun-aps and sports sunglasses. The referee must wear an outfit that is suffiiently different from the ompeting teams. No one is allowed to wear any ojet that ould ause an injury during the game. All ojets that might prove dangerous during the game are prohiited, e.g. rimless glasses, raelets, neklaes, earrings, wristwathes and rings. They must e either removed or taped in suh a way that they are no longer dangerous. 1.7 Shot lok apparatus There will e no shot-lok used during the game ut may e an option in the future. Setion 2: Persons 2.1 Players a Numers and position

The game is played y two teams of 6 players eah, 3 women and 3 men. In a 3 vs 3 math the game follows a speial sequene (see line-up elow). Line up and inomplete teams Two men and two women are delared as the starting 'team' with the other two players listed as sustitutes. In a 3 vs 3 math the math is played aording to the following line up: The line up in Q1 + Q3 is 2 women and 1 man and in Q2 + Q4 is 2 men and 1 woman. Sustitution of players Players an e hanged at any time when that team has possession of the all. The outgoing player has to leave the field efore his replaement an enter. The inoming player has to enter the field from the sideline where he was sitting and level with the penalty spot nearest to the korf that his team is defending. If a player enters the field efore the player eing replaed has left the field then a penalty is awarded against that team. A sustituted player is allowed return to the math. The omposition of male and female players must e maintained. 2.2 Captain, Coah, Sustitutes and other persons attahed to the team a Captain One player of eah team is the aptain. He wears a learly visile and or tape in a ontrasting olour to the shirt on the upper part of the arm (or on top of one shoulder on sleeveless shirts). He represents the team and is responsile for the proper ondut of his players. He has the right to draw the referee's attention to anything he thinks desirale in the interest of the good progress of the math. The approah must e made in good faith in a reasonale and orret manner and not too frequently. The aptain shall remain as aptain of the team throughout the math (even when on the side line) and an only give up this role if he no longer takes part in the math and has gone away from the playing area. In this ase one of the other players must e designated as the aptain. Coah, Assistant Coah and other person attahed to the team No person other than the players nominated under 2.1 is allowed to e in the playing area during the game. Sustitutes The sustitutes are onsidered memers of the team. Other than in irumstanes mentioned elow, they must all remain seated on the floor during the math. Sustitutes are allowed to stand to warm up prior to sustitution. However, a player that has een sustituted eause he has een given a red ard must leave the playing area. 2.3 Referee The referee ontrols the game. d e to enfore the rules The referee punishes infringements of the rules unless it is to the disadvantage of the nonoffending team when the referee may hoose to play advantage and not punish an infringement. The referee may punish any infringements of the rules at any time during the math, even when play has een stopped. to use the offiial signals and his voie to larify his deisions The offiial signals that the referee may use are shown in an appendix to the Rules of Korfall referred to in the introdution. To start or restart the game the referee lows his whistle at the start of eah quarter, at a freepass and a penalty as soon as the player taking the throw is ready and all the requirements are satisfied (see 3.9 and 3.10). The game must e stopped: whenever a goal has een sored when an infringement must e punished in a ase of unfair advantage when a referee-throw (throw-up) is to e awarded in the ase of a leeding player. when ation must e taken owing to hanged irumstanes suh as weather, material or players or in ases of misehaviour or interferene at the end of eah quarter of the math. The game must e terminated: at the end of full time when it is impossile to ontinue the math owing to hanges in the field, material or players, or a result of misehaviour or outside interferene. If, even having used sustitutes, in a 4 v 4 math a line up of at least 3 players (with at least one of eah gender) annot e maintained or in a 3 v 3 math the designated line-up for that quarter annot e maintained then the game is delared over with 5-0 result to the other team. f to take ation against misehaviour y the players or a sustitute player In the ase of misehaviour the referee an formally warn any of the aforementioned persons (yellow ard -> means the player is sent off for the rest of the quarter; 2x a yellow-ard to the same person in the same math is equal to red), or he an send the person in question away from the playing area (red ard -> means out for the rest of the game). Sustitution is allowed for any player sent off for a yellow or red ard. In addition to the aove-mentioned formal warnings the referee an informally warn a player or sustitute player that he must hange his method of playing or his ehaviour. Examples of what onstitutes misehaviour are in the guidane notes to the Rules of Korfall referred to in the introdution.

Setion 3: The game 3.1 Duration and reaks a The length of a math The length of a math and the reaks etween quarters shall e determined y the ompetition rules. Preferaly the length of eah quarter will e 150 seonds (2 1 / 2 min) with 45 seonds reak etween eah quarter. Unless using real playing time, the time will e stopped when there is an out-all, injury, sustitution or a yellow or red ard. At the start of Q3 the teams hange the diretion of playing towards the other korf. When there is more than one math there will e 5 min maximum rest to prepare the playing-field and to do all the administration for the next game. Time-out There is no time-out allowed during the game. Sustitution The game or time lok does not have to e stopped for a sustitution to take plae (see 2.1 for how sustitutions are made). 3.2 Goals a How to sore Exept for the ases mentioned elow under, a team sores a goal when: the all has, from aove, ompletely passed through the korf of the opposing team it is sure that the all would have fallen ompletely through the korf, ut that it was tapped ak from underneath y a defender If the all is thrown through one's own korf it ounts as a goal for the opposing team. Previous infringement Exept for the ases mentioned elow under, provided the all had left the hands of the shooting attaker at the moment of whistling and was outside the reah of any opponent, a goal stands even when the referee has previously lown for an infringement ommitted y an opponent.

d Goal not allowed The referee shall not allow the goal in the following irumstanes eause he has lown (or the signal has gone) for the end of any quarter of the math unless, at the moment that the whistle or signal goes to end the quarter, the all had left the hands of a shooting attaker and was outside the reah of any other player, in whih ase a goal stands if this shot passes through the korf he has oserved an infringement ommitted y the attaking side efore the all has gone through the korf the all has fallen through the korf following a throw diret from a free pass or re-start he has previously oserved an unfair advantage to the attaking side the all has first een thrown from underneath, has passed through the korf and then had fallen ak again through the korf. The team soring the most goals wins the math Every sore ounts for one goal. 3.3 Line up a Choie of line up The ompetition rules shall deide into whih korf eah team will shoot in the first half (Q1 + Q2). In the asene of ompetition rules, or any indiation in suh rules, then a toss shall e made to determine whih team shall attak whih korf in the first half. Change in line-up As laid down in 2.1, the line-up sheme is followed throughout the math. 3.4 Zone hanges and hanges of ends Not appliale as there is one zone. Only a diretion hange at the start of Q3. 3.5 Throw off A throw off takes plae at the start of eah quarter the team determined in aordane with the ompetition rules shall start quarters 1 and 2 at the start of quarters 3 and 4 y the team that did not start the first quarter. after every goal y the team who has just oneded the goal. The throw off is taken y an attaker from the virtual penalty spot in front of the korf he is defending. 3.6 Infringements of the rules Infringements of the rules are divided into infringements made y defenders and infringements made y attakers. For the purposes of this rule, attakers are defined as the team in possession of the all. Infringements of the rules y defenders are divided into: 1 light infringements - punished y a re-start Light infringements are: tehnial infringements (like running, playing the all with the leg and delaying the game)

physial infringements whih are not aimed at disrupting the attak and where there is also no unontrolled ontat 2 heavy infringements - punished y a free pass Heavy infringements are: physial infringements with unontrolled ontat (like knoking the all out of an opponent s hand, pushing, linging to and holding off of an opponent infringements whih are aimed at disrupting the attak or that result in disrupting the attak. 3 infringements whih repeatedly hinder the attak unfairly - punished y the award of a penalty to the other side ( 3.11 a, explanation B) 4 very heavy infringements whih result in the loss of a soring hane - punished y the award of a penalty to the other side ( 3.11 a, explanation A). During the game it is prohiited: a to gain an advantage y touhing the all with leg or foot The leg shall e deemed to e from the knee downwards. An infringement is punished y the award of a re-start unless the ontat with leg or foot is intentional, with an advantage otained as result, in whih ase a free pass is awarded to the other team (or penalty if the touhing results in the loss of a soring hane). d to hit the all with the fist An infringement is punished y the award of a free pass. to take hold of, ath or tap the all when any part of the ody other than the feet is touhing the ground In this version of the sport this rule shall not apply. Therefore, it is allowed to dive towards the all provided this does not eome a ase of holding off eause it was done in a dangerous manner. to run with the all A hange of position with possession of the all is only permitted in the following three ases: 1. The player reeives the all whilst standing at rest. In this ase he may move one leg at will, provided the other one remains in its plae as a pivot foot. Turning on the pivot foot is permitted. He may hange the pivot and moving foot provided his initial position does not hange. 2. The player reeives the all whilst running or jumping and omes to a stop efore he throws the all or shoots. The requirement is that, after seizing the all, he has immediately and fully tried to ome to a stop within the least possile distane. After oming to a stop, the same rules apply as mentioned under 1. 3. The player reeives the all whilst running or jumping and throws the all or shoots efore he has ompletely ome to a stop. In this ase the player is not allowed to still e in possession of the all at the moment that he plaes a foot on the ground for the third time after reeiving the all. An infringement is punished y the award of a re-start.

e solo-play Solo-play is the delierate avoidane of ooperation, i.e. a player tries to hange his position with the all in his possession without the help of another player. Solo-play is not punishale when the player does not hange his position appreialy when the avoidane of ooperation was not intentional An infringement is punished y the award of a re-start. f to hand the all to another player of one's own team Handing the all to another player of one's own team means that the seond player reeives the all without it having first moved freely through the air or it was free on the ground. An infringement is punished y the award of a re-start. g h to delay the game There is a maximum of two seonds allowed in having possession of the all. An infringement is punished y the award of a re-start. A player taking a penalty and passing instead of shooting is onsidered to e delaying the game. to knok, take or run the all out of an opponent's hand The riterion is that the opponent must have the all reasonaly under ontrol. This ontrol an exist in holding the all with one or two hands and also in letting the all rest on the palms or the fingers. An infringement y an attaker is punished y the award of a re-start. An infringement y a defender is punished y the award of a re-start when there is a light infringement and y the award of a free pass when there is a heavy infringement. i to push, to ling to, or to hold off an opponent Every impediment of the free movement of an opponent is foridden whether this is done delierately or not. This rule does not fore a player to give way for another player, i.e. eah player allowed to position himself just as he pleases. He will only e punished when he moves so suddenly into the path of a moving opponent that a ollision eomes inevitale. An infringement y an attaker is punished y the award of a re-start. An infringement y a defender is punished y the award of a re-start when there is a light infringement and y the award of a free pass when there is a heavy infringement. j to hinder an opponent exessively The hindering player is allowed to hinder the throwing of the all in the desired diretion y ations that result in the all eing thrown against his hand or arm. An infringement y an attaker is punished y the award of a re-start. An infringement y a defender is punished y the award of a re-start when there is a light infringement and y the award of a free pass when there is a heavy infringement. Hindering is only permitted in so far as the thrower is ostruted in playing the all in the desired diretion. Furthermore, movements that ause the player with the all to throw it against the hinderer s hand or arm, or allow him to interept it, are allowed.

He is allowed to lok the all y ringing his arm in the path of the all, ut he must not hinder his opponent in the free use of his ody y loking the arm instead of the all hit the throwing arm or eat the all, i.e. the hindering arm or hand must not move quikly towards the all in suh a way that ontat takes plae with the all efore it has left the opponent s hands. k l to hinder an opponent of the opposite sex in throwing the all An infringement y an attaker is punished y the award of a re-start. A player is outside the field when he plays whilst touhing a oundary line or the ground eyond a oundary line, or plays the all having jumped from a oundary line or the ground eyond a oundary line. Playing an onsist of touhing the all as well as hindering an opponent. If sidewalls are eing used in a stadium format then playing whilst touhing a side-wall is an infringement of this rule. It is permissile to do the following without infringing this rule: to ath or tap the all when it is over a oundary line provided the player stands inside the field to tap the all when the player is in the air outside a oundary line provided he jumped from inside the field n to shoot from a defended position A shot must e onsidered defended when the attaker shoots and the hindering defender satisfies the following onditions: he must atively e trying to lok the all AND whilst atively trying to lok the all he must i) e within arm s length of the attaker ii) have his fae turned towards the attaker and iii) e nearer the post than the attaker. If the attaker is so lose to the post that the hindering defender annot stand nearer the post then ondition iii) an e deemed to e satisfied if the defender and attaker are on opposite sides of the post and all other onditions are satisfied. An infringement y a defender is punished y the award of a free pass and an e deemed as misehaviour if this is repeated. 3.7 Out-all The all is out as soon as it touhes any of the following a oundary line of the field of play the ground, a person or an ojet outside the field of play. the eiling or an ojet aove the field of play. In the ase of an out-all a re-start is awarded against the side that touhed the all last. The re-start is taken under the same onditions as stated in 3.9.

The field of play is not three-dimensional. It is therefore permitted to hit the all, wherever it may e, ak into the playing area, provided that the all has not touhed anything listed aove and the rule in 3.6 m is not violated. 3.8 Referee throw-up When two opponents seize the all simultaneously the referee will stop play and will throw the all up. The same applies when play must e re-started without one side eing entitled to the all. The referee hooses two players who must e of the same sex and if possile of aout the same height. The two players take up a position on either side of the referee with the defender taking up his position first. The referee throws the all up etween them so that its highest point is out of the reah of either player and at that moment lows his whistle to indiate the re-start of the math. These two players may touh the all after the all has reahed its highest point during the throw-up. The other players must oserve a distane of 2.50 m from the plae of the throw-up and may only touh the all after one of the two seleted players has touhed the all or after the all has een in ontat with the ground. 3.9 Re-start a when to award a re-start A re-start is awarded to the opposing side after an infringement of the attaking team or a light infringement of the defending team after the referee has indiated that one of the rules in 3.6 has een violated. The offending team has to drop the all immediately to the ground and if this is not done then a yellow ard will e shown with the onsequenes mentioned in 2.3 f applying. plae of the re-start The re-start is taken from the spot where the infringement was ommitted. If the infringement was ommitted against a ertain person ( 3.6 h, i, j, k, l and sometimes m), then the re-start is taken from the spot where this person was standing. how to take a re-start At the moment that the player taking the re-start has, or an take, the all in his hands the player shall ring the all into play, without a whistle y the referee, within a maximum of two seonds with the referee having his arm aove his head, showing two fingers and ounting down using his fingers. Also after a goal the throw off from the virtual penalty spot in front of the post will e taken within a maximum of two seonds, without any whistle y the referee, after the goalsoring. The players of the opposing team may not hinder him. The all is rought into play when the all has travelled at least 2.50 m from the plae of the restart (measured along the ground). No player from either team may touh the all until the all has travelled 2.50 m from the plae of the re-start. If the taker of the re-start has not rought the all into play within two seonds, then the referee will low his whistle and award a re-start to the other team. The player taking the re-start is not allowed to sore diretly from the re-start. He an only sore when the all has een rought into play and has een touhed y another player. An infringement is punished y a re-start to the defene from under the korf. When the person taking the re-start or an out-all touhes a oundary line after the referee has indiated that the re-start or out-all an e taken y starting to ount down from two to zero with his fingers and efore the all has left his hands, then the referee respetively awards an outall to the opposing side (see 3.6 m) or an out-all (see 3.7).

3.10 Free pass a when to award a free pass A free pass is awarded to the attaking side after the referee has indiated that one of the rules in 3.6 has een violated with a heavy infringement y the defending team. plae of the free pass The free pass must e taken y a player of the attakers standing immediately ehind the nearest of the four virtual spots (see 1.2). how to take a free pass The person taking the free pass shall stand with one foot immediately ehind a virtual spot and the other foot must e plaed anywhere in the area ehind this virtual spot. He must not plae his other foot (or touh the ground with any part of his ody) etween the virtual spot and the post efore the all has left his hand(s). From the moment that the taker of the free pass is at the spot with the all, the referee lifts one of his arms vertially and gives the signal with two fingers on his raised hand to indiate that he is going to whistle within 2 seonds for the pass to e taken. During this preparation period for a free pass the referee is allowed to punish any infringements of the rules. Following the raising of the arm there are two possiilities (see A and B elow). Possiility A: 1. All the players other than the taker are standing outside the virtual free pass irle. 2. The other attaking players, who must e standing outside the virtual free pass irle, must also e at a distane of at least 2.50 m from eah other. All the aove must exist within the maximum of two seonds preparation time following whih the referee shall low his whistle to restart play. The player taking the free pass must ring the all immediately into play within two seonds of the referee lowing his whistle. If the taker of the free pass does not ring the all into play within this period, then the referee shall low his whistle again and award a re-start to the defending team. The players of the defending team must remain meeting ondition 1 until the taker of the free pass makes a learly visile movement of the all, an arm or a leg. The players of the same team as the taker of the free pass must remain meeting onditions 1 and 2 until the all has een rought into play. The all is rought into play when any one of the following three things ours after the referee lowing his whistle for the pass to e taken immediately: 1. a player of the defending team touhes the all 2. the all has een thrown lear through the air for a distane of at least 1 m (measured along the ground) and a player of the same team as the player taking the free pass touhes the all whilst standing with oth feet in ontat with the surfae outside of the virtual free pass irle 3. the all has travelled ompletely outside of the virtual free pass irle. The player taking the free pass is not allowed to sore diretly from the free pass. He an only sore when the all has een rought into play under situations 1 or 2, or has een rought into play under situation 3 and has een touhed y another player. An infringement is punished y a re-start to the defene from under the korf. Possiility B: When the players do not meet onditions 1 and 2 mentioned aove in A within the maximum of two seonds of the referee raising his arm, he will whistle twie quikly in suession, the first time to restart the game and the seond time to stop play, and punish the offender as follows:

If the infringement was made y a memer of the defending team then the free pass is ordered to e re-taken. When the defending team makes this infringement for the seond time at the same free pass the referee will give a penalty. If the infringement was made y a memer of the attaking team then a re-start is awarded to the defending team. If players from oth teams are within 2.50 m then the referee will punish the player who is nearest to the spot where the free pass is taken. If the referee onsiders players from oth teams are at the same inorret distane then the attaking team shall e penalised. The referee is the sole judge aout whether the all has een thrown y the taker of the pass for a distane of at least 1 m, has passed ompletely outside the free pass area or when eah period of three or one seonds has elapsed. A free pass must e retaken if the throw is taken efore the referee has lown his whistle for the taking of the throw (time should e stopped). 3.11 Penalty a when to award a penalty A penalty is awarded in the following situations: A Infringements that result in the loss of a free soring hane of the attaker. In suh ases the referee must award a penalty immediately. B Infringements repeatedly made y the defender that prevent the attaker from otaining soring hanes. In suh ases the referee may award a penalty. plae of a penalty The penalty must e taken y a player of the attaking team standing immediately ehind a virtual penalty spot (see 1.2) situated in front of the post. how to take a penalty The person taking the penalty shall stand with one foot immediately ehind the virtual spot and the other foot must e plaed anywhere in the area ehind the. He must not touh the ground etween the virtual spot and the post with either foot (or any part of his ody) efore the all has left his hand(s). All other players must remain at least 2.50 m from the virtual penalty spot and the post until the all has left the hand(s) of the player taking the penalty. The taker shall take the penalty within two seonds of the referee lowing his whistle (indiated y the referee holding an arm in the air showing three fingers and him ounting down from 3 till zero). The opposing team and the sustitutes on that team s enh must refrain from any ations or omments that may distur the person taking the penalty. If neessary any quarter of the math will e prolonged for the taking of a penalty until it is lear that the all has, or has not, passed through the korf as a diret result of the penalty. A penalty may only e taken y a player of the attaking team who is on the field at the time the penalty was awarded. It is permitted to sore diretly from a penalty and if the taker does not shoot ut hooses to pass to a team mate instead then he shall e onsidered to infringe 3.6 g - delaying the game. 3.12 To exeed the allowed time-limit in the attak zone This rule from the main Rules of Korfall onerns the use of a shot lok. A shot-lok will not e used in this version of the sport. For the purposes of this rule the attak zone is the whole field of play and one a team takes possession then that team (now onsidered to e the attaking team) is allowed 15 seonds

to shoot and touh the korf or to sore. The referee should take are of this 15 seonds and should ount down the last 3 seonds to zero. The exeeding of the time-limit is indiated y the whistle of the referee and the game is then interrupted. After an infringement of this rule the referee gives a restart to the other team. The re-start is taken from the plae where the attaker had the all in his possession at the moment that the whistle sounded or had in his possession just efore the moment that the whistle sounded. Further Notes: Beah-korfall an easily e replaed indoor on hard ourt alled Korfall4. If eah-korfall is played y teams at a lower level than the top, then 4-4 an e onsidered, whereas a team an onsist of 6 players, 3 women and 3 men, always playing 2 women and 2 men per quarter and at least 5 different players should e lined-up during the game. Injuries may only eing sustituted y the same sexes and no sustitutions after reeiving a yellow or red ard. Another alternative is playing eah-korfall in one zone with one korf.
