St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Celebrating Snowmobiling Since 1969! Volume 2017-18 Number 6 www.boboen.com February 2018 President s Message Tom Nampel Now that we are full bore into the snowmobile season we have great snow and excellent trails. Please remember to ride safe and obey all of the rules and trail signs. We had our annual Snowmobilers Breakfast on Saturday, February 13th, at Knocker s Pizza Company Inc. It was a big success with over 200 people attending. A big thank you to Shelley, Barry and the staff at Knocker s for a great meal and service. We also had a successful Snowmobile Safety Class with 61 students attending. All 61 passed the test. Congratulations to all. Thank you to Peggy and Bob Ausloos and Roger Klein, our instructors, the DNR warden and the Vilas County Sheriff Department and all of the volunteers that made this happen. We have two more events coming up. The Radar Run on February 2nd and 3rd and Walker s Arrowhead Groomer Show on February 7th and 8th. Please plan to attend or volunteer these events. Enjoy the season, have fun and ride safe. Tom Nampel Snowmobile Safety Instructors Needed The Bo-Boen club has conducted Snowmobile Safety classes for many years helping students of all ages, especially those under 18, earn their snowmobile safety certification. If a person is born on or after January 1, 1985 they must be certified to be able to ride a snowmobile on their own. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offers Instructor Certification courses. This year a class will be held at the St. Germain Community Center on April 8 th, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This class will also recertify existing instructors. If you have an interest in being an instructor or if you have any questions, please contact Kim Cooley at the DNR 920-360-2361 or Peggy Ausloos (Bo-Boen instructor) at 715-542-3548. Snowmobilers Breakfast at Knocker s Pizza Company A HUGE SUCCESS! Knocker s Snowmobilers Breakfast fundraiser was a great success. A great made to order omelet meal was enjoyed by all who attended. Again, thank you Barry & Shelley and staff for helping our club raise funds for maintaining our trails. Also a big thank you to their daughter Paige, who did another great job selling paddles throughout the morning for door prize raffles that were donated by the following: Sisters Saloon Little Saint Mobile Express St. Germain Sport Marine Badger Liquor Smiley s Pub Fibber s Bar & Restaurant Timber s Bar & Grill Red Canoe Knocker s Pizza Company General Beer Twilight Bar & Grill Thank you all. The total proceeds to our club including raffle monies totaled $2,172 with 200 meals served! Election Information Officers are elected to a one-year term. Officer positions are President, President Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary. A President may serve for not more than two consecutive terms. There are two Director positions open each year. Directors are elected to fulfill a three-year term. The slate of candidates will be presented by the Nominating Committee at the February Membership meeting. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted at that time. A sample ballot and a statement from the candidates will be printed in the March newsletter. The election will take place at the membership meeting on March 13, 2018. The Tellers Committee will be provided with a membership list, and members attending the meeting will be asked to register with them and receive a ballot upon arrival. Voting will take place during the meeting, which follows the dinner, when the president calls for the ballots. The ballots are tabulated and the winners are announced before the end of the meeting. The new officers and directors take office and assume their duties at the April Board Meeting. Anyone wishing to vote by absentee ballot must request a ballot from the secretary, in writing (e-mail will do), up to 7 days prior to the election. Absentee ballots must be returned in the envelope provided, sealed and mailed. No requests for absentee ballots will be accepted after that time.

Membership Corner Well the season for Jeff and I is almost coming to a close. We would like to thank all of you our members for being patient with us this year as we transitioned to a new club membership period. We did have about 85% of our members renewal by our deadline date this year, that was a great response so a big high five to all of you. We are hoping that next year all of our members will hit the target date of September 30 th. Please watch the April newsletter for all details on when and how to renew for the 2019 snowmobile season. This will be Jeff and I s last year as your membership chair s. We have enjoyed being part of the club and can only hope that we helped things move in a positive direction for the club. With our current St. Germain Businesses and working full-time we are just running out of hours in the day to keep up with almost over 1100 club members. We will miss talking with all of you and taking the time to walk you through our new process but I know that the club will find a replacement that will continue to help to grow the largest club in the WORLD!!! This year Jeff and I processed 1100 membership applications. That is a huge number and is still growing as we are still seeing new members join our club. Total new members to date is 165, WOW just AMAZING!! February is coming and we do have a few members that will need to renew before then, so please check your membership cards and get those renewals in by visiting our website at http://www.boboen.com/membership.html. You don t want to be caught without a current WI TRAIL PASS! We have the best members in the WORLD! Enjoy the trails and have a great rest of the season. Also, a SPECIAL THANK YOU to all the VOLUN- TEER s who helped get all the membership cards and decals out in the mail!!! Your Membership Chairs, Beth & Jeff Urbans Trail Boss Jim Wendt I sure am glad to be sitting here looking at the beautiful north woods and knowing our outstanding staff of drivers are out on the trails putting down the BEST trails in the north!! We are not blessed with an abundance of snow but the base is good and hard. The equipment is running good and the positive comments from riders are many and greatly appreciated by the staff. As I mentioned before, we had to replace four drivers this year. I can tell you that we have some very talented replacements to ensure our performance and reputation will go on and not miss a beat! This years staff of drivers are: Town run Jay Pritzel (crew chief), Joe Coda, and James Warner, Eagle River run Shaun Savel (crew chief), Matt Verseman, and Tim Schwulst, Sayner run Steve Hausner (crew chief), Brian Tamling, and Bryan Gitter. Buffalo Lake run Al Clemmensen (crew chief), Jim Swenson, and Kelly Newton, Dam Lake run Jim Wendt (crew chief), Doug Coda, and Gary Jacobi. Please take a moment to thank these dedicated men for their dedication to the club and their commitment toward making the best trail system in the state even better! It is truly a privilege to work with this group of men who I consider excellent operators as well as friends. Please remember a few riding points always ride right, dim you lights when you come upon a groomer, sleds always pass a PARKED groomer, go lightly on a freshly groomed trail, and always acknowledge the groomer out there working to make your riding experience the best it can be. TRAILS are the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club and we don t take that responsibility lightly! My role as treasurer began in 1991 and shortly thereafter Boyd Best at Idle Hours Resort graciously agreed to get our tax forms together and has continued for now over 25 years. At this time I would like to send out a big THANK YOU to Boyd for his professional services for all those years without compensation. Along with his service, Boyd and his beloved wife Judy constantly supported the club with financial support. Boyd is now retiring from his profession so we are looking for someone to take over this duty starting with our fiscal year ending March 2018. If you are interested and able to help give me a call at 715-493-7736. Again, on behalf of the club members, past and present board THANK YOU BOYD! Ed Siergiej, Treasurer
