Canadian War Museum Finding Aid Page 1 of 6 Dates: 1914-1917. Extent: 146 items of correspondence. Biographical Sketch: Major Earl Davies Hubbell (1885-1919), a medical officer in civilian life, enlisted on 23 September 1914 in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), and served with the Canadian Army Medical Corps (CAMC) overseas. On 3 December 1917 he was promoted from Captain to Major. He returned to Canada at the end of 1918, and moved to Winnipeg to set up a practice. He died in 1919 and is buried in Thamesville, Ontario. Language: textual material in the fond is in English. Scope and Content: Letters and post cards written to members of the Hubbell family who owned a hardware business in Thamesville. The authors were men from Thamesville who were serving with the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) in England, France and/or Belgium, and who had received parcels and tobacco from the Hubbell family. Most correspondence was addressed to JO Many letters were written by Lieutenant (later Captain) ED George Stonefish, was a sniper. Postcards with messages are included with the letters.
