Page 8 Speech Fixtures 2014 as at 300514 IMPROMPTU DEBATE RULES Impromptu debate topics will be given to schools 45 minutes before the start of the 1 debate. 2 3 4 5 Teachers are not permitted to take part in the preparation. 6 For each impromptu debate, both schools must be present for the topic to be given out i.e. one school cannot begin to prepare before the other. Teams must attend at the Speech Awards Reception Desk (outside the Bloomfield Lecture Theatre) for the collection of their impromptu debate topic. Preparation will take place in the Hall of Champions. All team members will be permitted to take part in the preparation. On the advice of the WADL use of the internet is not permitted during the preparation time. Any team found with an electronic device will automatically be disqualified i.e. no mobile phones permitted. 7 Teams may use a hard copy dictionary and a hard copy thesaurus only. 8 Schools must be seated in the room allocated to their debate 5 minutes before the start of the debate. For every half minute a school team is late there may be a penalty of half a point.
