Bay Area Thunder Hockey 2017-2018 Dear Parents and/or Guardians, The Bay Area Thunder Hockey Program WELCOMES you to the 2017-2018 Thunder Hockey Season. As a Varsity High School sport, we fall under the rules and regulations of the Michigan High School Athletic Association as well as the four local high schools. Our team consists of players from John Glenn, Garber, All Saints, and Pinconning High Schools. Athletic Directors from each high school led by Athletic Director Troy Lynch from John Glenn, and the coaching staff work together to manage the hockey team. We are pleased to have back coaches Rocco Cammarata, Scott Larkin, and Billy Barnett to the Thunder Program. We are looking forward to a fun, safe, successful hockey season. Parents and team members are REQUIRED to participate in several fundraisers to reduce the cost of the hockey season. Participation in these events is MANDATORY. Those who are unable to fulfill fundraising obligations and other volunteer obligations unfortunately will not be able to be part of the hockey program. Extenuating circumstances must be communicated to either the coaching staff or administration as soon as possible. Player Fee: Each year we have been working on lowering the out of pocket player fee. As of today, each player is required to pay four (4) $100 payments due as follows: Payment #1 of $100 due at this time, Payment #2 of $100 is due on or before Friday, December 1 st, 2017, Payment #3 of $100 is due on or before Friday, January 5 th, 2018, and Payment #4 of $100 is due on or before Friday, February 2 rd, 2018. All payments should be made out to John Glenn High School and will be deposited into the internal Thunder Hockey account only to be used for the Thunder Hockey Program. Payments #2, #3, and #4 may be either reduced or eliminated based on the success of the fundraising of the team. Tag day: Tag day is a day where our players wear their uniform and stand outside local businesses collecting donations for the hockey team. This season s tag day will be announced as soon as it is determined. Lunch will be provided after the event. Tag Day Volunteer Coordinator Name and Contact Information: Stacy 450-7244 Buffalo Wild Wings: (Bay City) For each guest/table that presents a copy of the coupon (to be distributed) prior to ordering, BWW will donate 20% of that purchase amount directly to the team. (Guests do not receive 20% off their bill). The only condition attached to the fundraiser is that we DO NOT pass out fliers in the parking lot or in the restaurant. Circulating the coupons by copying, email, fax, etc. is acceptable. This date needs to be determined by contacting BWW. We are asking all players and parents to attend as this will serve as our Meet the Team night. BWW Volunteer Coordinator Name and Contact Information: Amy 992-2282 Team Pictures: Team pictures will be taken by Harbour Lights. The Athletic Office will work with the coaching staff to establish the date and time of team pictures and picture packets are being sent with you today. Ad/Program Book: There will be a minimum of $300 in ads required per player. Please see attached information on forms to fill out and sponsor letters. All ads and payments are due by Wednesday, November 29 th, 2017. Checks must be made out to John Glenn High School. A volunteer is needed to collect ads, payments, and organize the book. Ad Program Volunteer Coordinator Name and Contact Information: Charlene 751-1128 samnoahgaffney@aol.com, Wendy 980-3603 Can drive: The can drive will take place following the holiday season. Lunch will be provided after the event. Can Drive Volunteer Coordinator Name and Contact Information: Joe 780-3106

Snap-Raise: We will be trying a new fundraiser this year called Snap-Raise. The Snap-Raise promoter will meet with the team for 30 minutes to create a promotional video. Each player creates a bio and then provides 20 email addresses. The emails are automatically sent out asking for donations for the Thunder and all tax and accounting is handled behind the scenes. The team collects the donations (after fees) at the end of the 28 day campaign. Thunder Auction: This will take place on Friday, January 26 th, 2018 at The Amvets Post on Pine Rd. in Essexville, MI starting at 6:00 PM. Each player is required to supply $100 in auction items. This may be one (1) item valuing $100 or more or five (5) items valued at $20 each. We ask that every item be a value of at least $20. (Those items under $20 should be packaged to create a value of at least $20). This event will be catered and a cash bar will be available. Because of the cash bar, this event is for 21 year olds and older. In addition, each player will be asked to sell at least 10 tickets to this event at $10 per ticket. A volunteer is needed to collect auction items and organize the dinner for the event. Auction Item Volunteer Coordinator Name and Contact Information: Candi 324-7255, Wendy 980-3603 Auction Dinner Volunteer Coordinator Name and Contact Information: Kathy 450-7432 Game Day Volunteers: It is required that each family volunteers at one home games to help with 50/50 tickets. When you volunteer to sell 50/50 tickets at the home games, the 50/50 money must be counted at the game for disbursement reasons, but John Glenn High School will be responsible for counting all admission money and making deposits. Each family is responsible for one date for 50/50. Team Dinners: There will be around three team dinners during the season. These dinners will occur at the Bay County Civic Arena or other locations TBD. Dates have not been determined yet. Team Dinners Volunteer Coordinator Name and Contact Information: Renee 992-0787 Alumni Game: We are looking for one parent to organize the alumni game, date, and time. This person will also help try to sell our old jerseys and bags. You will work with the coach and Athletic Director Troy Lynch on this project. Alumni Game and Used Jerseys and Bags Sales Volunteer Name and Contact Information: Candi 324-7255, Wendy 980-3603, Amy Pobanz pobanza@bangorschools.org Admission to Games: Admission to all home games is $5 per person including children over the age of 5. Again this year, there will be a Thunder Punch Card available for purchase for $30. Each card will have 10 game punches. Additional cards can be purchased at any time at the gate. All parents, students, and children over the age of 5 will need to either use a punch card or pay at the gate per game. Thunder Information: All information presented at the parent meeting can be found online at www.johnglennathletics.com, selecting WINTER SPORTS, and then selecting BOYS HOCKEY. We will also be using Team App. Please see the attached handout for instructions on how to sign up. Senior Night: This year s senior night will be Monday, February 5 rd, 2018 vs. Flushing. Parents/guardians are requested to be at the rink at 7:00 PM for a brief pre-game ceremony before the 7:30 PM game. Warm-ups/Apparel: Players that are new to the team have the opportunity to order a warm-up at their own cost ($120). Sandlot Sports has a Thunder store open now until November 19 th and has added the warm-up as an option. Questions: Students must follow all rules that pertain to their host school as well as the rules established by Coach Cammarata and his staff. Any questions regarding policies, please first talk you your student, then the coach, and then the home school Athletic Director.
