Costume/Shoes Basic things you should know: 1. Please, no eating or drinking while in costume. 2. You are responsible for minor alterations. For major help, please see Nancy, our Costume Fairy! 3. Don t allow kids to play in their costumes or wear their performance tights to class. 4. Wrong size tights? Exchange them ASAP unworn and in original packaging. 5. NO UNDERWEAR should be worn under tights! 6. No nail polish, jewelry, or earrings!!! 7. Please wear real ballet shoes (not satin fabric slippers). Ballet shoestring ties should be tucked inside the shoe. Hair Please check the costume binder for the hairstyle you will need. If your class requires a pony tail or bun, NO bangs, please. For a bun: Use lots of gel & hairspray Use thick rubber bands Use lots of bobby pins Put a hair net over the bun Fasten headpieces with crisscrossed bobby pins. Hair ribbons should go underneath elastic hair ties. Make-Up Wear make-up for Photo Week, Dress Rehearsal, Nursing Home Performances and, of course, the Showcases! You will need: White eye shadow over entire lid Brown eye shadow in the crease Mascara Eyebrow pencil for blondes Fuchsia lipstick Pink blush We have thought of everything you need for a successful Showcase experience! While you can certainly shop for these items on your own, we ve taken the time to prepare hair kits and make-up kits for you, leaving you stress-free! Conveniently available for purchase at the front desk! Page 2

Ticket & Wristband Information Ticket sales help pay for the theatre rental, rental of lighting equipment, backdrops and props, auditorium manager, custodians, lighting and sound crew, insurance, etc. All tickets purchased pre-show are $10.00 each ($7.00 for team show). Priority Tickets* will go on sale Monday, 4/17 at 12:00 pm All Other Tickets will go on sale Sunday, 4/23 at 6:00 pm No later than 4/16, you will receive an email with your unique login and password. You will need this information to purchase tickets. So please make sure that we have your correct email address. Each family will be able to purchase 7 tickets. On 5/11, all remaining tickets will be available for purchase, so be sure to place your order before Thursday, May 11 to guarantee that seats will be available! On 5/30, tickets increase to $11.00 each. There are no refunds for unused tickets. Competition Team Show (Friday night) tickets are just $7.00 each, $8.00 if purchased day of show. Tuition must be paid in full for the remainder of the year to purchase any tickets. Every seat in the theatre is an excellent one! It s a small theatre. Even in the back row, you can see perfectly. We actually like sitting in Row Q! Don t like computers? Visit us in person at the front desk. We ll be happy to help. (Unfortunately, we cannot take ticket orders over the phone.) We are going paperless this year! After you purchase your tickets online, you will receive an email with your chosen seat numbers. Please keep this email. You can either access the email from your phone when you get to Sycamore High School, or print the email and bring it with you. After 5/21/2017, each family needs to stop by the front desk to pick up: 1. A wrist band, which must be worn by the adult who will be dropping off and picking up your child. Backstage area and student waiting areas are off limits to anyone except for those with wrist bands. 2. Your quick costume change bag (if needed). *Priority ticketing is available only for those who paid for costumes in full (plus fees) by November 11, have been enrolled in classes since September Page 3

Photo Week: May 8-13 Please allow extra time for classes this week, they may run a little longer! Arrive for class wearing your full costume, tights, hair & makeup. No earrings, tattoos, nail polish, etc. Be performance ready!!! Meet at your regular time. The teacher will fix any costume, hair and make-up issues. Need extra help?? Please arrive early. First, we will take a GROUP photo. Everyone is asked to participate in the photo even if you don t want to purchase one. Then, we will take INDIVIDUAL photos. These are optional. If you think you might like a photo, please be ready with your order form filled out ahead of time. If you are in a Combo class: No tumbling portion of the class will be held this week. Please be courteous...do NOT TAKE photographs while your child is in the photographer s room. Thank you. We have used Oak Haven Photography for many years. Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back! Dress rehearsal will begin with the Closing Number and Final Bow. Then, we will rehearse the show in order of the program. Please arrive EARLY, dressed in full costume, tights, hair in correct hairstyle with headpiece, make-up applied and correct shoes! Volunteers Needed Backstage! One parent volunteer (or grandparent or older sibling (age 16+)) is needed to watch over each group backstage. The volunteer WILL be able to see your child s routine from a good seat in the auditorium! If a volunteer is not found, the class will be asked to hire a babysitter and share the cost. There will be activities to keep the students occupied. PLEASE! VOLUNTEER TODAY!! Your participation is urgently needed! If you don t attend, your child will not be familiar with the stage. This could cause a lot of stress, not only with your child but also the entire class! We have seen dancers run into each other and go to the wrong spot, because they didn t attend rehearsal. Oops! Closing Number Information Ask your teacher if your class will participate. This is an exciting 7-minute routine, featuring almost all the dancers in the entire show (minimum age is 5). A very exciting way to end each of our Showcases! PARTICIPATION IS OPTIONAL! There are 2 extra, mandatory practices for the Closing Number. Final Bow Information At the end of each show, our entire cast comes out and takes a final bow for the applause and appreciation of the audience. We will rehearse the Final Bow along with the Closing Number. It is important, especially for our littlest ones (i.e., 5 yrs. and under) to give them the extra practice they need. Important Reminders Please remain in your seat during the show, or move about during breaks only. No food or drinks in theatre. No videotaping during shows. Recycle programs So that everyone can have a program to take home, please recycle additional programs on your way out of the theatre. Children will NOT be permitted to leave before the show is complete. Our rules are for your safety. Volunteers and security guards will be instructed not to make exceptions. Thank you for your cooperation! And most importantly: This is a ONCE a year, special day for your child. Relax, enjoy, and have fun! Page 17

Costume Changes If your child has a Costume Change: Please check to make sure we have noted all your child s costume changes in the Showcase Program (which will be passed around during your All About Parents class, and also posted on bulletin boards). If we have missed something, please write it in the Program. Quick costume changes (those having 4 numbers or less between dances) will take place in the Quick Change room located on the side of the stage. Our experienced volunteers (who have done this job for years) will be ready to change costumes/shoes for the next routine. Older dancers (or those with more than 4 numbers in between) may be able to change back in the waiting area with the assistance of the room monitor. Check with your teacher to see if this is a good idea first! For all costume changes, including for Closing Number: (1) When you pick up your tickets, pick up a color-coded shopping bag. On the label, please write your child s name and other information. (2) On Dress Rehearsal Day (and also on Showcase Day), give this bag, complete with all costumes, shoes and accessories, to the volunteer at the check-in table. (3) You will need a bag if you have a costume change of any type including closing number. Remember, for Closing Number, T-shirts and black shorts can be put on right over the top of most costumes! Those dancers who are wearing pink tights, please have black pants available for closing number. Page 19

TUMBLING AWARDS DAY! Sunday, May 21 At Dance Etc. This is a great opportunity for tumbling students, ages 3 & up, to showcase all their hard-earned tumbling skills for the applause of parents, relatives and friends. Teachers will present your child a certificate of achievement and a commemorative medal. He/she can also get her photo taken with our staff for our Facebook page! There will also be entertainment by our advanced tumblers and refreshments for you to enjoy! It s a fun event you won t want to miss! Space is limited, so register today! Yes! Why No Videotaping At the Showcases??? We always receive a lot of complaints that videotaping, especially on smart phones and i-pads, is very distracting to others. We have hired a professional videographer who has a lot of experience in filming dance. They use two cameras: one for stage and another for close-ups. They make sure to feature each child. Your child will watch it over & over! Each DVD is only $25.00 each and includes tax. BUT in order to respect the videographers, & others around you, as well as the studio, we ask that you NOT videotape. If we find someone who is not respecting these wishes, we have the right to ask them to leave. Page 22

Frontier Days Parade & Ice Cream Social! Thursday, June 1, 2017 Join us for the annual Frontier Days Parade! We ve participated for 21 years! We always need dancers, tumblers, and little ones to be dressed up and waving to the crowd from our decorated trailer! Parade Route: The parade starts in old Milford on Lila Ave, near MAC Fitness (Actual meeting place TBA; look for DE Blue shirts!), goes through 5 corners intersection, down St. Rt. 50 into old Milford and ends at the bottom of the hill at the corner of Main St. and Sycamore St. The parade route is approximately 3/4 mile long. CHILDREN 5 YRS. OR YOUNGER MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT PICK UP A PARTICIPATION/ WAIVER FORM AT THE FRONT DESK. RETURN BY MAY 26! Parking: No cars are allowed at the meeting site except for parade vehicles. Park at Milford Shopping Center or Kroger s. Time: The parade starts at 6:30 pm. Streets close at 6:00 pm, so get a parking place early! We are usually towards the beginning of the parade, probably starting before 7:30. The entire event (parade and party) will be over by about 9:00 pm. What to Wear: Good walking shoes, Dance Etc. T- shirt and black shorts, or a costume. Parents planning on walking in the parade should be dressed in a Dance Etc. T-shirt, too. At the end of the parade, students must have a ride (we are no longer allowed to drive children in an open bed truck or trailer). Dance Etc. will be having an ice cream social back at the studio if you would like to come. Candy may be passed out, but not thrown from trucks. Hope to see you there! Page 24
