Match Reports U13/3 Vs Glenwood (3-1) (Adam 3) I went out early to the local café and whilst sipping on my decaf cappuccino I began to ponder what my day should be. Would I go home & do the lawns. Would I go out to Royal Randwick and watch the mighty Winx make history. Or would I watch the U13/3 try 2 from 2. The only sure thing I thought was Winx winning. Having decided to go to watch the boys I hoped that last weeks end to end scoring feast would not be repeated, my heart would not cope. Arriving at the ground I saw the boys going through their pre-game drills, the coach outlining the team s tactics and expectations. Then I saw familiar face Sanju had joined the team. The coach needed to make some positional changes with key players Josef & Arshad missing but the boys were determined to make up for the absentees. The boys started a little slow but by the 17 th minute Adam made his mark and by the end of the game he would netted a further 2 goals. Had it not been for the great efforts of the opposition goalkeeper the score line would have been a lot different. All the boys played their positions well and the defensive quartet held out and diffusing numerous attempts by the opposition, especially to the right hand side. The likes of Arnav and Ethan always dropping back to help the backs. Whilst Jacob, Isaac and Anish moved the ball up to Adam, Jihan and Ethan. It was pleasing to see the boys transition from defense to attack through some good inter team passing.. U20/2 St Pats 12 def. Doonside Hawks 1. Goals Tong 5, Anyanya 4, Stephen, Justin. This was an overwhelming victory. Things were tight for about 20 minutes then the avalanche struck. It was 6-nil at the break and 12-1 at the final whistle. Some of our passing was exquisite today. Tong and Anyanya were unstoppable. They turned on their shimmy shimmy moves to dance through the opposition s defence and finish strongly. What made the day even more rewarding was the fact that nobody relaxed. The whole team just kept up the momentum. Stephen ran brilliantly down the left side and Justin was constantly applying pressure: both were rewarded with their first goals of the season. Julian D was getting a lot of ball and Jacob smacked a wonderful pass from one wing to the other to set up an Anyanya goal. Keeper Shaun made a sensational, aggressive clearance running 30 metres out of goal to bang the ball out of harm s way. We also finally managed to take advantage of Baran s great corners, with Anyanya going high over the pack to head it in. If there was a minor downer it was our 11 off-sides which were a bit of a worry. Oh yes, and you know what our backline is like!! They were filthy on themselves for letting that one goal through at the end. The boys at the back have a mission in ---- to keep as many clean sheets as they can. The score says it all. This was impressive stuff. Kids love to see their name in print so please send through a short match report to christinemcd@bigpond.com by 12pm Mondays for inclusion in Paddy's news. 4
