In April, Yorkshire lost one of its most wellliked archers when Joyce Kiddy passed away. Joyce enjoyed great success as an archer, winning British and European titles as well as representing reat Britain. he was the first woman to represent reat Britain in field archery. Joyce was the matriarch of a great archery dynasty. Her husband Albert, daughters Michelle and Lynda, granddaughter Amy and son-in-law Neil are all high-achieving archers. he was a real stalwart of her club, Dearne Valley AC, and put in a huge amount of work at the club and at its open shoots. he was always very friendly and welcoming to all, and will be much missed. Joyce Kiddy ummer 06 Donations raised at her funeral were given to the John Hartfield Memorial Fund, which has now been renamed the Hartfield Kiddy Memorial Fund. The YAA extends its sincere commiserations to Joyce's family and friends. YAA and NCA affiliation fees 06-07 As you will no doubt now be aware, Archery B have withdrawn junior and disabled club block fee arrangements and also introduced a new 8-4 age group category. The decision to take this action was agreed at the AB AM in April, which was a few weeks after the YAA & NCA held their AMs. Decisions were made about the YAA & NCA 06-7 fees at the respective AMs, which now leaves the YAA & NCA fee structures slightly at odds with the AB structure. To further complicate matters the YAA and NCA committees have agreed to take differing stances on fees for junior and disabled clubs for the 06-7 year. I do believe this is only an interim solution for the 06-7 affiliation year, and that both YAA & NCA will agree a common fee structure for 07-8 at their 07 AMs. Perhaps more in line with the AB structure, i.e. a per capita system for all. The NCA fee structure for junior and disabled archers and clubs has been detailed in the letter to all NCA clubs from the secretary Ann hepherd, May 06. A document explaining the subscription fee arrangements for the 06-7 affiliation has been sent to all club secretaries and is available from the Administration page of the YAA website. If you have any questions about the YAA fee structure for 06/7, please contact Dave Phillips, YAA Treasurer, on dp@davephome.co.uk. Dave Phillips YAA Treasurer Funds raised at AC Early Bird Archery would like to thank all the archers for supporting our Early Bird shoot. This charity shoot has a great significance to many of us as we all know somebody who has been affected by cancer and I am delighted to say that due to your generosity a grand total of 44 will be shared equally between Cancer Research and MacMillan Cancer upport. We would like to thank Wentworth Pewter for donating the Best old Trophy for 60 yards. They also donated a pewter hip flask that was awarded for the Best old at the first end at 50 yards, which archers donated money to be in with a chance to win and keep as a memento. Finally, many thanks to our Lady Paramount haron Tideswell and our wonderful judges Karen Hunt and Martin Middleton who helped the day run so smoothly. Hope to see you all again next year!! ophie and Tony Carpenter Archery YAA Newsletter ummer 06 Page
Val Henty receives the Yorkshire word The Yorkshire word for services to archery was presented to Valerie Henty at the YAA Championships on unday the 5th of June 06 by YAA President Andrew Neal. Citation Val has been instrumental this year in helping in setting up the field, and helping out during the Yorkshire Tournament Weekends. Whilst not being a member of the county committee, she has committed to proving help on all three set up days and returned during the aturday and unday when she could. he took over the job of white lining the field this year, being promoted from apprentice (which she has done regularly over the last few years), and the job was completed in record time. Despite a family wedding commitment on the third weekend she still turned up on time, did the job then set off to a wedding event with no fuss. Val has become a regular feature in turning up to help set up, and, where possible, returning to help out on the aturdays and undays at the YAA shoots at Wetherby over the last few years. Always sticking to the task in hand to its conclusion, often changing her prior plans to achieve this. Her help and support is valued by the others in the Work Party. Juniors on the rampage Megan Ashleigh Tinker of Dearne Valley AC has become the English Field Archery Champion and the Northern Counties Field Archery Champion. he achieved these titles over two days at a very wet and difficult course in Kendal, Cumbria, with a total of 44 points. These titles add to the UK and Yorkshire titles that she already holds. Jessie later shot well at the AB selection shoot in June. he shot a personal best on the 70 round on the aturday and won two out of four head-to-head shoots, beating the archer ranked first after the 70. This earned her fourth place. he had a more difficult day on unday, but still finished in overall fourth place. Unfortunately, the AB coaches decided to take the fifthplaced archer through to the afternoon's round robins a very annoying decision, but this was an excellent performance by Jessie. The Carpenter kids continue to kick senior butt. At the UK Masters in June, Izzy won overall silver in the Ladies, and Adam won overall silver in the Mens with a rand Master Bowman score of 67. This followed exceptional performances at the first leg of the European Youth Cup, held in Hungary in early May. Izzy set a new UK record of for Junior Lady 5 Arrow Pass. he and her team mates Layla Annison and Hollie mith went on to win gold against Italy in the Cadet Women's Team final. Adam won the Mixed Team silver with Lucy Mason. He then beat Teodor Vlad (Romania), Kritjan Puusepp (Estonia) and ebastien Osnowski (Belgium) to earn a place in the Individual Cadet Men's final. He and his opponent une Rasmussen (Denmark) started level, but Rasmussen opened up a narrow lead, then finished with a perfect end to claim gold. Outstanding performances! Tony Rollin receives the Yorkshire Award Tony Rollin was presented with the Yorkshire Award at unday's YAA Indoor Championships. Andrew Neal, YAA President, made the presentation. Citation For the past seven years Tony has been Tournament ecretary for The Wakefield Archers, organising between and 4 tournaments a year both for the and for the Northern Counties Indoor Championships. He is always the first on the field to begin laying out for competitions and last to leave after putting away equipment. During the competitions he works as one of the service team ensuring that everything runs smoothly. For a number of years he has been involved with delivering courses for beginners. Three years ago he completed a Level coaching course and together with others, has continued to deliver beginners courses three or four times a year. He also finds time to encourage and support the intermediate archers. He can always be found assisting with Have-a-o events, which he greatly enjoys. He is a quiet and unassuming person who never asks for reward but who deserves a special thank you in appreciation of all his tireless efforts on behalf of The Wakefield Archers. The Wakefield Archers Wakefield Albion cancelled The Wakefield Archers regret that they will not be holding their annual Albion competition in July this year. We would appreciate it if winners from last year could return the trophies, either to a member of The Wakefield Archers at any forthcoming competition, or by post to: eorgina Lawrence, Cleveland arth, Wakefield, WF 8LP We hope to reinstate the competition in July 07. Apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience caused. Wendy Fryer The Wakefield Archers YAA Newsletter ummer 06 Page 9
New YAA timing system available to clubs A reminder that the YAA s new Danage timing system is available to YAA clubs for use at their own FITA shoots. The system combines timer, lights, sound, scoreboard, archer rotation indicators and control panels. It s so energy efficient that the whole system can run for a two-day shoot using two car batteries. Instructions for the use of the system are available from the Judging page of the YAA website. Please contact Karen Winsett if you are interested in using this system at your club s open shoot. Karen Winsett Yorkshire Judges Liaison Officer The Yorkshire Award THE YORKHIRE AWARD is a prestigious award where clubs can nominate individuals or couples who, in the eyes of their club, deserve recognition for services to that particular club. There is no set deadline for submission of nominations. If you think someone in your club deserves such recognition, please download the nomination form from the website, complete it, and send it to the county secretary. Judges expenses form The Judges Confirmation and Expense Form was designed following comments made by a number of judges. The tournament organiser or club secretary should send the form to the judge well in advance of the event. The judge should return the confirmation of attendance and expected expenses, so matters can be settled in advance of the event. To prevent double booking of Judges, the Judges Confirmation and Expense Form includes a tear off slip to send to Karen Winsett, the Judges Liaison Officer, when the booking has been confirmed. The form can be downloaded as a Word document from the YAA website: www.yorkshirearchery.co.uk/documents/judgeconfexp.doc Alternatively, write to the county secretary or phone him for a copy. If you want particular judges, please write their names on the slip that is to be sent to Karen. Many thanks for your anticipated support.
