ROSTER MOVE: The Braves today selected the contract of top prospect Ronald Acuña Jr. from Triple-A Gwinnett and designated OF Peter Bourjos for assignment...acuña Jr. will wear No. 13. Acuña Jr. hit.232 (16-for-69) with one home run, nine walks and 22 strikeouts in 17 games for the Stripers this season...he batted.333 (11-for-33) over his last eight games, hitting safely in seven of those contests. He was named Minor League Player of the Year by both Baseball America and USA Today, Hitting Prospect of the Year by MLBPipeline. com and Organizational Player of the Year by the Braves following the 2017 season after batting.325/.374/.522 across three levels of Atlanta s system. The 20-year-old is Baseball America s No. 1 prospect and MLB.com s No. 2. In 2017, Acuña Jr. led the minor leagues with 181 hits, 139 games and 557 at-bats, while pacing all Atlanta minor leaguers in batting average (.325), runs (88), doubles (31), triples (tied, 8), home runs (tied, 21), RBI (82) OPS (.896) and stolen bases (44). His father, Ron, played the outfield in the minors for three different organizations: New York (NL) from 1999-2004, Toronto in 2005 and Milwaukee in 2006...His grandfather, Rosmaldo Romo Blanco was a pitcher in Houston s system. Acuña Jr. is 20 years, 128 days old today, and is set to become the youngest player to debut for the Braves since Julio Teheran debuted at the age of 20 years, 100 days on May 7, 2011...The last younger position player was Wilson Betemit in 2001... Betemit debuted at 19 years, 320 days. NEVER QUIT WITH SNIT: The Braves rallied from a four-run, ninth-inning deficit last night to send the game to extra innings, the third time this season they have rallied in the ninth. The Braves have now overcome a deficit in the eighth inning or later five different times this season, tied for the most such rallies in the major leagues... Arizona also has five such rallies. The Braves three ninth-inning rallies came against Colorado s Wade Davis, New York s Jeurys Familia and Cincinnati s Raisel Iglesias...That trio has combined to convert 21 of their 22 other save chances.
