GET READY FOR THE GAME...IN 140 CHARACTERS OR LESS Georgia State continues a two-game trip to Alabama facing Troy on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. ET. at Trojan Arena. Georgia State earned a 72-68 win over Troy last month, extending the Panthers win streak to three-straight in the series. Last time out, Jeremy Hollowell recorded a double-double (22 pts., 11 rebounds), but the Panthers fell to South Alabama 79-78 in OT. Head coach Ron Hunter (100 wins) needs just eight more wins to become the all-time winningest coach in program history. Georgia State s 13-9 start is the sixth-best start in program history. Ironically, the Panthers started last season 15-7 (just two games better) that ended with 25 wins and in the NCAA tournament. At 6-7 in the Sun Belt, the Panthers enter play Saturday in seventh place, but just 1.5 games out of fourth and a first round bye. Since returning to the league, GSU is 38-13 in Sun Belt regular season games, going 17-1 (2013-14), 15-5 (2014-15) and 6-7 (2015-16). Georgia State s 7-2 non-conference record is the third-best in program history. Defensively, GSU is giving up just 65.0 points per game, No. 34 in the NCAA. Georgia State was one of just 20 programs in the country to have won 25 or more games in each of the last two seasons. Georgia State is 60-22 (.732) since Dec. 14, 2013. Georgia State, the two-time defending Sun Belt champions, was selected to finish second this year in the conference preseason poll. Markus Crider and T.J. Shipes have been a part of 78 wins, just 10 shy of the schoolrecord set just last year by Ryann Green. That elite group includes: Kentucky, Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Gonzaga, Louisville, Wichita State, Kansas, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Virginia, Villanova, VCU, Stephen F. Austin, San Diego State, N.C. Central, Louisiana Tech, SMU and Dayton. #SBC3PEAT? Since joining the Sun Belt two years ago, Georgia State has won back-to-back conference regular season titles and advanced to two conference tournament finals, winning last season to advance to the NCAA tournament. Since rejoining the league, the Panthers are 38-12 in Sun Belt Conference regular season games, going 17-1 in 2013-14, 15-5 in 2014-15 and starting 2015-16 with a 6-7 record. BEST START EVER...CLOSE Georgia State s 13-9 start through 22 games isn t the best 22-game start in program history, but it is right near the top. Here are the best 22-game starts in program history. So far, he has been correct. The Panthers are 57-12 in the comfy confines of the Sports Arena since his arrival. The Panthers have gone 35-2 at home since the start of the 2013-14 season. During that span, Georgia State has put together an 18-game winning streak which ranks second-longest in school history and a 15-game home court winning streak that concluded on Jan. 16. That was the third-longest in program history. Here are the longest home court winning streaks in school history: 25 2-24-00 to 12-12-02 *3rd-longest streak in nation at time 18 11-9-13 to 1-5-14 (13-0 during 2013-14 season) 15 1-10-15 to 1-16-16 (last seven of 2014-15 season, first eight of 2015-16) 10 11-18-11 to 1-23-12 (first 10 games of the regular season) 8 1-5-98 to 2-24-98 (last eight games of regular season) CLOSING IN ON A LEGEND MOST WINS BY COACH Head coach Ron Hunter owns Coach... The school record is 107 wins by Bob Reinhart.

Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 3) ON TO THE PROS Georgia State lost three players to graduation last year and another to the NBA Draft. Three of the four individuals that left are now playing professionally. R.J. Hunter was selected with the 28th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, while Ryan Harrow is playing overseas in Greece. Curtis Washington already played professionally in Hong Kong before going to Argentina in the fall. This fall, he has seen time with the NBDL Maine Red Claws which are affiliated with the Boston Celtics, while also playing in Canada. Although not playing professionally, Ryann Green is doing just fine as he stayed at Georgia State to earn his Masters and is now working in the athletics department. THE SERIES WITH TROY Georgia State and Troy will meet for the 29th time since 1996 and for the second time this season on Saturday. The Panthers have won three-straight in the series and are 4-1 in Sun Belt games. Last month, Georgia State earned a 72-65 win in the GSU Sports Arena. The Panthers were led by 22 points from Jeremy Hollowell as he and Kevin Ware opened the game with a barrage of 3-pointers to built a lead to as many as 26 with just over three minutes to play in the first half. THE WORLDWIDE LEADER For the first time in program history, all Georgia State home games will air live on ESPN3 this season. Simonds, a shooting guard who is widely regarded among the top three players in the state, is ranked No. 72 in the latest ESPN 100. He is listed as a composite 4-star by 247Sports as well. Clerkley, a 6-9, 210-pound power forward, is considered one of the top 30 players in Georgia and among the best big men. He is listed as a composite 3-star by 247Sports and the No. 14 player in the state. Last season, Simonds led Gainesville High School to a 25-5 mark and 12-1 record in Region 8-AAAAA. He earned honorable 637 AND COUNTING mention AJC all-state honors for his efforts and was named team MVP. He also earned all-region honors and earned all-tournament recognition at the Lanierland Tournament and Battle of the Boarder. Simonds was named regional player of the year and earned NEXT UP all-state honors as a sophomore after averaging 23 points, 12 rebounds and six assists per game at Buford High School. Both Scout.com and Rivals.com list Simonds as a 4-star recruit and among the top 80 players in the nation and top 15 at his position. Clerkley averaged 6.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a junior at Perry High School, leading the team to a 19-8 record and the 4-AAAA state playoffs. He also lead the squad to a region championship. He has earned the school s Mr. Defense Award in 2013 and 2014 and the squad s 2015 Panther Award. CAREER RECORD WATCH REBOUNDS STEALS Coach Ron Hunter once again coached a game barefoot in support of Samaritan s Feet. The Panthers topped UL Monroe 65-51 on Jan. 14 as Hunter always tries to schedule the game as close to the Martin Luther King Jr. observance day. The Panthers are 5-0 when Hunter has gone without socks and shoes to raise awareness for the 300 million children around the world without shoes. This marked the ninth straight year Hunter has gone barefoot for a game. As part of his work with Samaritan s Feet, Georgia State travelled to Costa Rica in August 2014, doing a pair of shoe distributions during its eight-day road trip. Georgia State has made at least one 3-point field goal in 637 straight games, dating back to the 1994-95 season. The last team to hold the Panthers without a trey was Stetson on Feb. 18, 1995. Georgia State will return home and face first-place Little Rock next Thursday at 7:30 p.m., on ESPN3. Player... Years Rbs. Player... Years Stl. 1. Terrence Brandon...1991-96 (4) 750 1. Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 7) HEAD COACH RON HUNTER In four seasons, Ron Hunter has changed the national perception of Georgia State; winning 87 games and advancing to the postseason three teams. It was highlighed last year by winning 25 games for a second year in a row and advancing to the third round of the NCAA tournament following the shocking upset of No. 3-seed Baylor. The 87 wins are the most in any fouryear stretch in program history. Georgia State has entered elite status by winning 25 or more games in each of the last two years, an accomplishment only reached by 20 programs in the entire country. Hunter is now responsible for three of the four winningest seasons in program history and half of the school s postseason appearances. After winning the Sun Belt regular season title for the second straight season in 2014-15, the Panthers claimed the tournament title, just the third for the program to advance to the NCAA tournament. In the postgame celebration, Hunter tore his Achillies, a clip that went viral across the nation. Coaching in the NCAA tournament from a stool, the Panthers trailed by 12 with 2:53 to play, before mounting a furious 13-0 run, capped by a 30-foot 3-pointer from son R.J. that sent Hunter off his stool and became one of the most watched clips of the tournament and a part of One Shining Moment. Although successful in his first two seasons at the helm, the Panthers started to pile up the wins during the 2013-14 season. Winning 25 games, second most in school history, Georgia State earned a Sun Belt regular season championship and an appearance in the Postseason NIT. During the season, the Panthers won a school-record 14-straight games, including a stretch of 22 of 23, as Hunter was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year and NABC Region 24 Coach of the Year. During his first season (2011-12), Georgia State won 22 games, the third most in school history, advancing to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Hunter has won 361 games in 21 seasons, but the accomplishments made by the 2011-12 team will always be special for him. After being named head coach on March 21, 2011, he built a squad that finished in the top 20 in the nation in scoring defense, defensive shooting percentage, steals and blocked shots, as six seniors finished their careers triumpently. Following the record-setting season, Hunter was named Atlanta Tip-off Club Georgia Coach of the Year, while his players earned a recordnumber of conference and national awards. National notoriety is nothing new for Hunter. While at IUPUI, he was lauded for his humanitarian efforts, partnering with Samaritan s Feet, an organization that collects shoes for underprivileged children around the world. He continued that work in Atlanta, coaching the Panthers while barefoot to victory over UNCW in front of the largest crowd in the Sports Arena since 2007. While leading IUPUI to 25 or more wins in two of his final four seasons, Hunter began to partner with Samaritan s Feet, an organization that collects shoes for underprivileged children around the world. On Jan. 24, 2008, he coached IUPUI against Oakland in his bare feet to help raise awareness for the cause. By tipoff, Hunter s efforts had raised more than 100,000 pairs of shoes, and to date, that number has climbed well above 250,000. During his first season at Georgia State, Hunter led the Panthers to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, just the fourth time GSU earned a postseason bid. The Panthers opened the tournament at home, another first, hosting a postseason contest and earning an impressive 74-43 victory against Tennessee Tech. Earlier in the year, Hunter s squad won 11 straight games, earning impressive victories over CAA preseason favorite Drexel and at VCU. The streak included wins of 32, 32 and 31 points. Hunter, 51, earned his bachelor s degree in education at Miami in 1986 and added a master s in 1987. He was a standout player on strong Miami teams of the mid-1980s, along with high school and college teammate Ron Harper, who went on to a long NBA career. The Redhawks were 81-30 during Hunter s four-year career and earned three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths while winning two MAC championships.
