Message from the President Clay Meininger, TCC President & COO If you have not experienced the Fourth of July at TCC the past few years you are missing out. We kick off the day with Couples Golf followed by a cookout at the pool for all members. Then fun at the pool starts, we will have games throughout the day.make sure to arrive early as the pool fills up fast. The evening will begin with an excellent BBQ buffet created by your culinary team.this is always well attended, so make your reservation in advance. The day will culminate at dusk with a fireworks show by Aerial FX. I have been fortunate to work at various clubs around the country and TCC s display is by far the best I have seen! Make plans to join us at any point in the day for our Annual 4th of July Celebration-- we look forward to seeing you, your friends and family enjoy the festivities! A detailed schedule of events and times is located on the front page of this newsletter., July 3 is Grandchildren/Grandparents Day at the where golf is free after 1:00 p.m. The TCC Women s Golf Association and both hold their championships during the month and Tennis hosts Kids Night Out on Friday, July 22. As in past years, Brunch will take a hiatus in July and August, however you can still enjoy your breakfast favorites in the each starting at 10:00 a.m. Have a great summer make sure to tell your friends and neighbors about the exciting days ahead at TCC! join us for Breakfast in the starting at 10:00 a.m. Brunch will not be offered in the months of July & August as many of our members travel with their families before heading back to school. call 354-8561 to make your reservation today! Message from the Chef Shawn Hartwig, Executive Chef Two years, that s how long I ve been here. Time is a funny thing, when you have the best of it, time goes too quick, when your luck isn t so great, it seems to stand still. I can say my two years here seem like a blink. So thank you! I love many things in this wonderful life, but soup is one of my favorites of the favorites. I can spend hours just simmering a broth, slowly adding vegetables and herbs building the flavor, it s a very fulfilling process that always leaves me with a smile. So this month, we want to try something! We will be offering a soup flight. Three Soups all in one dish: Smoked Tomato Bisque, Roasted Mushroom and Corn Cream. A great way to start a meal or just add bread and call it a meal. As a state that happens to be land-locked...we try to bring in some fun items we can t necessarily get at the local grocery store down the street, and this month is no different. May I introduce you to my French friend, Mr. Turbot. This is such a treat because you hardly see this fish on a menu because it s so hard to get, but for July, we have it. Turbot is a lot like Halibut, but flakier. We ll be preparing it two ways, on a simple blackened sandwich with mango relish like we are in the Caribbean and one where it will be paired with several different versions of fresh sweet corn. Either way, you must come in and try the deliciousness of Turbot. Red, White and Blue run through me. I m proud to be an American, and I take pride in what we are doing for the 4th of July this year. We ll have a great luncheon poolside with all of your favorites, along with the best Barbecue we ve ever served and Sheridan s Ice Cream for dinner! What s not to love? See you there for the great food and fireworks! 2 Our July Limited Edition Entrée: Corn & Turbot Oven Roasted Cornmeal Crusted Turbot, Corn Soufflé, Corn Cream, Roasted Corn & Mascarpone Relish, Smoked Tomato, Grilled Scallions

Tennis News Junior Brown, Director of Tennis We are off to a great summer down at the TCC Tennis Courts. The courts are busy, busy, busy! Now is a great time to be involved in your TCC Tennis Program! We have something for everyone and if we don t, we will make it happen for you! The Junior Team Tennis League is off to a great start with many kids and adults playing matches all the time! Remember the summer tennis program goes all the way through the summer and any time is a great time to get started! Tennis Tip Easy volley success now! Hitting a volley is the simplest motion in tennis. The most common mistake players make is trying to do too much. I ll give you an example. The incoming ball is coming very fast and our reaction is to swing fast and swing big in order to hit this shot. The truth of the matter is, we do not have enough time to make that kind of motion work! In this case, we need to keep our motion short and compact. I have two key words I like to use when I see players do this, turn and freeze. When the ball is coming to you, take a very small turn and then just freeze the racquet in front of your body. By doing this, you are using your opponent s pace in order to hit a great volley back in play. A great way to practice this shot is to come out and use the ball machine to feed you shot after shot. Before you know it, those shots that were coming in so fast will seem like child s play! EARLY BIRD TENNIS DRILL Fridays 6:30-7:30 a.m. Come start your Friday morning out right with a good workout! Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy a fun, energetic workout with Branden. $15 per person. KIDS NIGHT OUT Friday, July 22 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Hey kids, join us for games, activities, tons of fun & FOOD. Check in is at 6:30 p.m., pick up at 9:00 p.m. $20 per child. Bring a friend. Sign up by calling the Tennis Center at (785) 354-8565. News Kent Morgison, Superintendent The dog days of summer are quickly approaching, and as you play your round, you will inevitably notice some minor changes in the maintenance of your facility to help it survive as best as possible the warmer weather. The most noticeable and the one that may minimally impact your round will be the utilization of employees using hoses to isolated areas of the greens to keep sufficient moisture in the root zone. This practice also serves as a way of cooling the turf canopy when extreme heat causes shutdown of the plant. It is our goal to limit any interruption of your round with this technique, but at times it is unavoidable. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we help our greens through this tough period. We also have a project underway that you may see and wonder what is going on. We are in the midst of constructing a zoysia nursery in the old picnic grounds that sits to the west of #3 fairway. A usable nursery is a great asset when maintaining the grounds, as various issues may arise that can result in minor losses of turf. Having a dedicated area that can be used to harvest sod to reestablish turf quickly in these areas is very beneficial in providing a well maintained facility. The ground will be grown from zoysia stolons gathered on site, and it is our hope that construction is complete by the end of the month, with the area being usable during the 2017 season if not sooner. Lastly, we continue to encourage you to utilize the Enter and Exit posts as they are designed, and to limit your cart traffic in the rough. Our fescue/bluegrass roughs will thank you as it tries to hang on through July and August. That is all for now, see you soon on your course. 5 Here a crew is sprigging zoysia. These sprigs will grow and spread into a full, usable turf stand when properly maintained. Complete zoysia turf stands are started from scattering sprigs. With proper irrigation and fertilization, the sprigs spread into a full field in a matter of months.
