YMCA YOUTH SPORT LEAGUES Why we are different? All leagues have an even amount of playing time for all players so no players remain on the bench. We differ from other leagues by promoting our core values during our pregame youth sports pledge. We welcome all ability levels for all our leagues. Kids will learn all positions for each sport and their importance. All teams in each league require volunteer head coaches and each individual head coach receives 20% off their child s registration fee. Each participant will receive a team shirt or jersey at the beginning of the season and participatory medal after the season. End of the season league celebration at the YMCA. DID YOU KNOW? We now use IHSA patched referees for our basketball games ages 5th grade and up. Our older divisions now get a nice dazzle jersey and and shorts for their games during the season. Youth Sports Program Director, Eric Palmblad started as an intern here to finish up his degree, then became a part-time employee, then youth sports coordinator, and now became director 1 year ago. Youth Sports Coordinator Dave Heffernan s father was a head coach for Dave in our youth basketball league the first year Foglia opened. Dave was a part-time employee for about 5 years and is now coordinator. BASKETBALL In our youth basketball leagues, we stress development of skills, teamwork and fundamentals, in a fun and positive environment. This is a great way for your child to learn the game of basketball as a beginner, or to improve their skills as they progress through our leagues. All leagues (1st-8th grade) will have a weeknight practice to improve their skills even more throughout the season. Games and practices will be played at local schools. Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten Basketball Leagues If your little guy or gal can t wait to be the next Derrick Rose or Candice Parker, then hurry in for the Pre-K or K league. Saturdays only at a local school. Some skill development. Lots of game time! Co-ed (separate leagues for Pre-K & K). BASKETBALL Y-Winners Youth Basketball Leagues (3rd-8th grades) Continue the progression of your child s skills in these slightly more competitive leagues. Practices and games take place at a local school. The session consists of the first Saturday being a practice and the remaining Saturdays are games. Mandatory pre-season evaluations to help divide teams as even as possible. Division are: 3rd Boys 4th Boys 3&4 Girls 5&6 Boys 5&6 Girls 7&8 Boys 7&8 Girls (Depending on registration numbers) Games will be officiated by IHSA referees (5th grade and up only). TRAVEL BASKETBALL & VOLLEYBALL YMCA Travel Basketball League (5th-8th grades) Travel basketball leagues for boys & girls in 5th-8th grade. There will be a 5th & 6th grade boys and girls team and a 7th & 8th grade boys and girls team. Practices will begin in November, with games beginning in December. There is an 8-week regular season, running into the middle of March, with an end-of-season tournament. Games will be played Saturdays or Sundays, possibly in the evenings. There will be two practices during the week with times varying. You must attend at least one of the try-outs in order to play. It would be preferable to make both. In regards to ability and numbers, cuts may occur. This is a travel league where competition is tough and there is no minimum playing time for games. SOCCER In our youth soccer leagues, we enjoy teaching all the soccer skills needed through a non-competitive environment, especially all the fundamentals, while having fun. These leagues are perfect for beginners or for those interested in improving their skills during practices or games. All ability levels are welcome and shin guards are required for all participants. Kids will learn all positions on the field, so they learn the different aspects of soccer. Games and practices will be held on the field at the Foglia YMCA. Y-Rookies Soccer League (Ages 3 & 4) Learn the basics of soccer in this noncompetitive league that emphasizes fun. Saturdays only. A short time will be allotted for skill development, followed by a game. T-BALL & COACH PITCH Come join us in these great introductory leagues that focus on the basics and fundamentals of t-ball or coach pitch baseball in a fun and safe environment. Both leagues are 8-weeks long, with the first two weeks being practices, and the last six weeks learning the fundamentals of baseball through games. All kids will learn to play every position throughout the season. BASEBALL MITTS ARE REQUIRED!
