IAAF Diamond League media guide Introduction Welcome to the 2018 season of the IAAF Diamond League. Last season marked the successful adoption of a championshipstyle model by the 14-meeting series and the same format continues in 2018. Athletes earn points in the first 12 IAAF Diamond League meetings to qualify for two final meetings. As part of the overall US$8million in prize money available across the series, the finals offer a prize purse of US$3.2 million. $100,000 is at stake in each of the 32 Diamond disciplines, including $50,000 for each winner along with a stunning Diamond Trophy and the title of IAAF Diamond League Champion. In 2017, 282 million viewers from across 162 countries spanning all six continents worldwide watched the world s top athletes compete in the IAAF Diamond League, an increase of about 60 million on the previous year. Further emphasising the IAAF Diamond League s global credentials, 805 athletes from 86 countries took part in the 2017 season, with 39 countries producing winners across the series. In an outdoor season without a World Championships or Olympic Games, the IAAF Diamond League which takes place in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America offers the highest profile global showcase for track and field athletics in 2018. Sebastian Coe IAAF President and chairman of the Board of Diamond League AG

How it works IAAF Diamond League media guide How it works The IAAF Diamond League comprises 14 of the best invitational track and field meetings in the world. The meetings are spread across Asia, Europe, Africa and North America, and compose the top tier of the IAAF s global one-day meeting competition structure. This series, which began in 2010, showcases 32 event disciplines which are carefully distributed among the 14 meetings. In each of the 32 Diamond disciplines, athletes will compete for points throughout the season in a bid to qualify for the final. After the first 12 meetings, the athletes with the most points will earn a spot in one of the two IAAF Diamond League finals. Winners of each discipline in the finals will become the Diamond League champions, securing a US$50,000 cash prize and a spectacular Diamond Trophy. But more importantly, their victory over the most consistent performers in their discipline will have earned them the unchallenged honour of being the world No.1.

How it works IAAF Diamond League media guide Points Points per event discipline at the first 12 qualification meetings: 1st 8 points 2nd 7 points 3rd 6 points 4th 5 points 5th 4 points 6th 3 points 7th 2 points 8th 1 point The top eight or 12 athletes (depending on the discipline) with the most points after the first 12 meetings will be invited to compete at the IAAF Diamond League finals in Zurich and Brussels. The winners of each discipline at the finals will be crowned the Diamond League champions. In case of a tie, the best legal performance of the qualification phase wins. Prize money At each of the 12 qualification meetings, all disciplines have the same prize money: 1st US$10,000 5th US$2500 2nd US$6000 6th US$2000 3rd US$4000 7th US$1500 4th US$3000 8th US$1000 plus rewards for 9th-12th place finishers in distance races and ninth-lane runners in sprints. The prize money is increased for the finals: 1st US$50,000 2nd US$20,000 3rd US$10,000 4th US$6000 5th US$5000 6th US$4000 7th US$3000 8th US$2000 The overall winner of each of the 32 disciplines will also receive a spectacular Diamond Trophy created by Beyer, one of the oldest and most respected jewellers in the world, which was established in Zurich in the 18th century. In total, the IAAF Diamond League is offering US$5.6million in prize money in 2018.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Competition review 2017 Doha, 5 May Germany s Olympic javelin champion Thomas Rohler gave the opening IAAF Diamond League meeting of the season historical significance as he won with 93.90m, the longest throw in the world for 20 years. The only man to have thrown farther was Jan Zelezny, whose world record of 98.48m was set in 1996. The 25-year-old German whose previous personal best was 91.28m thus registered a world-leading mark and a meeting, IAAF Diamond League and national record. Another extraordinary performance occurred in the women s 100m hurdles, where world record-holder Kendra Harrison won in 12.59 before revealing that, during warm-up, she had injured her hand on a hurdle. It turned out to be broken, requiring surgery to insert a metal rod and six screws. Home favourite Mutaz Essa Barshim won the men s high jump and topped the season s world list with 2.36m. Jamaica s Olympic 200m champion Elaine Thompson won in 22.19, with Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands, world 200m champion, clocking 22.45. South Africa s Olympic champion Caster Semenya won the 800m in 1:56.61 another early world lead. Ethiopia s world 1500m record-holder Genzebe Dibaba, making her 800m debut, finished fifth in 1:59.37. Other seasonal world leads came from three Kenyan runners. Elijah Manangoi won the men s 1500m in 3:31.90, Ronald Kwemoi took the 3000m in 7:28.73, and world champion Hyvin Kiyeng won the steeplechase in a meeting record of 9:00.12. Kiyeng s compatriot Celliphine Chespol, 18, finished fourth in 9:05.70, a world U20 record.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Shanghai, 13 May Luvo Manyonga added seven centimetres to the IAAF Diamond League long jump record with a final-round meeting record of 8.61m. The 26-year-old South African, who had jumped 8.65m earlier in the year, bettered the mark of 8.54m set in 2011 by Australia s Mitchell Watt in Stockholm. Nineteen-year-olds Noah Lyles of the United States and Kenyan Kipyegon Bett produced headline performances in the 200m and 800m respectively. Lyles ran his first sub-20 200m, taking 0.19 off his best to equal the world-leading mark of 19.90, set at altitude a month earlier by South Africa s Olympic 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk. Bett surged past his fading Kenyan teammate David Rudisha, the double Olympic and world champion, to win in 1:44.70. Three Olympic champions produced early world leads. Jamaica s Elaine Thompson won the 100m in 10.78, Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas won the 400m in 49.77, and Kenya s Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon produced the first sub-fourminute 1500m of the season with 3:59.22. In the women s 5000m, Kenya s Olympic silver medallist Hellen Obiri also went top of the season s world list with 14:22.47. In another innovation for the IAAF Diamond League, men s and women s discus throwers were competing simultaneously. Olympic discus champion Sandra Perkovic of Croatia won with 66.94m, while the men s competition went to Philip Milanov of Belgium with 64.94m. The high jump went to Qatar s Mutaz Essa Barshim with 2.33m.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Eugene, 27 May Home triple jumper Christian Taylor achieved 18.11m the fourth longest jump in history, a world lead, a meeting record and an IAAF Diamond League record. The 26-year-old s compatriot Will Claye had taken the lead on countback in the fourth round after equalling Taylor s windassisted 17.82m with a wind-legal version. Claye s own fifth-round effort was a wind-assisted 18.05m. A super-charged women s 200m saw home sprinter Tori Bowie run an IAAF Diamond League record of 21.77 to defeat Jamaica s Olympic champion Elaine Thompson and Dutch world champion Dafne Schippers. Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas was second to the US Olympic silver medallist in a national record of 21.91. In the women s high jump, world champion Maria Lasitskene won with a personal best of 2.03m. Brittney Reese won the women s long jump with a world-leading distance of 7.01m, with fellow US jumper Tianna Bartoletta, the Olympic champion, managing 6.83m. Mo Farah won the 5000m in a world-leading 13:00.70. Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser won on home soil with 22.43m the second longest throw of the season at that point. Ashley Spencer went top of the 2017 world list with a 400m hurdles lifetime best of 53.38. The Bowerman Mile went to Kenya s Ronald Kwemoi in 3:49.04, ahead of compatriots Elijah Manangoi (3:49.08) and Timothy Cheruiyot (3:49.64). In non-scoring events, 18-year-old Kenyan Celliphine Chespol won the women s 3000m steeplechase in a world U20 record of 8:58.78, the second-fastest time ever recorded, despite almost losing a shoe at the penultimate water jump. Faith Kipyegon won the 1500m in 3:59.67, Ethiopia s Genzebe Dibaba won the 5000m in 14:25.22, and Olympic champion Omar McLeod took the 110m hurdles in 13.01.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Rome, 8 June Colombia s 33-year-old world and Olympic triple jump champion Caterine Ibarguen had her unbeaten run of more than a year ended by Yulimar Rojas. The 21-year-old Venezuelan won with 14.84m. Ibarguen beaten only once between taking silver at the 2012 Olympics and gold at the 2016 Games had a final-round best of 14.78m. A month after his 93.90m throw in Doha, Germany s Olympic javelin champion Thomas Rohler unleashed a final effort of 90.06m to beat compatriot Johannes Vetter s 88.15m. Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands and Hellen Obiri earned runaway victories in world-leading times over 1500m and 5000m respectively. Hassan clocked 3:56.22 and Obiri, the Olympic silver medallist, earned a Kenyan record of 14:18.37. Maria Lasitskene earned another high jump win with 2.00m. Greece s Olympic champion Ekaterini Stefanidi won the pole vault with 4.85m.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Oslo, 15 June Sixteen-year-old home runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen won a Bislett Games Dream Mile designated, for the first time, as an U20 race. Another young Norwegian prodigy, 21-year-old Karsten Warholm, defeated a 400m hurdles field that included the 31-year-old US Olympic champion Kerron Clement. Ingebrigtsen won in 3:56.29 well inside the 3:58.07 he had recorded at Eugene to become the youngest ever four-minute miler. But Warholm, a decathlete-turned-hurdler who had reached the previous year s Olympic semi-finals, provided the emotional highpoint as he lowered his national record to 48.25. Clement came to grief at the seventh hurdle and finished last. Mutaz Essa Barshim cleared a season-leading 2.38m to better the stadium high jump record of 2.37m set 28 years earlier by the Cuban who holds the world record of 2.45m, Javier Sotomayor. The concluding men s 1500m involving a field that would normally have raced under the Dream Mile banner went to Britain s 22-year-old Jake Wightman, who took more than a second off his personal best in clocking 3:34.17. Kenya s Elijah Manangoi finished second in 3:34.30 as two former British middle-distance legends, IAAF President Sebastian Coe and the BBC s Steve Cram, looked on. World 200m champion Dafne Schippers earned the 25th birthday present of victory in 22.31 after winning an appeal against a false start. South Africa s Olympic 800m champion Caster Semenya defeated Olympic silver medallist Francine Niyonsaba to win in 1:57.79.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Stockholm, 18 June A huge following wind of 4.8m/s helped Andre De Grasse run his fastest ever 100m in 9.69 which remained the fastest time recorded for the distance in 2017, albeit inadmissible for record purposes. Twenty-one-year-old Timothy Cheruiyot of Kenya won the men s 1500m in a world-leading 3:30.77. Norway s 16-year-old wunderkind Jakob Ingebrigtsen, last by 30 metres, clocked a European age-16 best of 3:39.92. His 21-year-old compatriot Karsten Warholm produced another winning 400m hurdles win in 48.82. Luvo Manyonga s first-round effort of 8.36m proved enough to win a men s long jump from which he retired after straining his ankle. Twenty-one-year-old Steven Gardiner of The Bahamas won the men s 400m in 44.58. Maria Lasitskene won with a high jump of 2.00m reaching that height for the fifth time in the season. There was a rare defeat for Croatia s Olympic discus champion Sandra Perkovic, whose best of 67.75m left her behind Cuba s Yaimi Perez s 67.92m. Daniel Stahl, seeking a home victory, produced his fifth 68-metreplus discus throw of the season, 68.13m, but lost to Jamaica s Fedrick Dacres, who managed 68.36m.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Paris, 1 July Two of the world s finest 1500m runners charged for the line in the Stade Charlety, the new home to the Meeting de Paris after years in the Stade de France. And it was Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands who got there first in 3:57.10, 0.41 ahead of Kenya s Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon. Home vaulter Renaud Lavillenie was beaten by Sam Kendricks, fresh from his first six-metre vault at the US trials, who won in 5.82m. Germany s Olympic javelin champion Thomas Rohler was third with 87.23m behind the 88.74m of fellow German Johannes Vetter and the 88.02m from the Czech Republic s Jakub Vadlejch, which equalled his personal best. Mutaz Essa Barshim secured another high jump win with 2.35m. Jamaica s Olympic 100m and 200m champion Elaine Thompson won over the shorter sprint in 10.91 ahead of the Ivory Coast s Marie-Josee Ta Lou, who set a season s best of 10.96. Olympic champions Ruth Jebet and Omar McLeod, who had arrived talking of world records in their respective 3000m steeplechase and 110m hurdles events, both ended up limping away. Jebet, who fell at the water jump with just over three laps remaining, was fourth in a race won by Kenya s Beatrice Chepkoech in 9:01.69. McLeod finished last in 13.41 before subsiding to the track holding the back of his right knee. Victory went to Jamaican teammate Ronald Levy in a personal best of 13.05. Ethiopia s Muktar Edris won a high quality 3000m race in a personal best of 7:32.31. Botswana s 2012 Olympic 800m silver medallist Nijel Amos held off the challenge of three top Kenyans to win in a season s best of 1:44.24. The men s 200m went to Turkey s Ramil Guliyev in 20.15. China s world and 2012 Olympic silver medallist Gong Lijiao earned shot put victory with six escalating distances, all beyond her closest opponent, culminating in 19.14m.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Lausanne, 6 July Wayde van Niekerk s first international 400m race since his world record run in Rio resulted in him breaking the Stade de la Pontaise record with 43.62. His world-leading mark improved the previous meeting record of 43.66 set by Michael Johnson 21 years earlier, and was also an IAAF Diamond League record. Behind him were Botswana s Baboloki Thebe, in a personal best of 44.02, and Isaac Makwala, in 44.08. Maria Lasitskene s high jump win with 2.06m was a world-leading mark, meeting record and IAAF Diamond League record. The javelin produced an almighty contest between past and present Olympic champions as a world-leading effort of 67.40m from the Czech Republic s 2008 and 2012 gold medallist Barbora Spotakova was overhauled in the last round by 68.43m from Croatia s reigning champion Sara Kolak. That was the second national record of the night for Kolak, who had earlier thrown 66.65m. Ethiopia s Muktar Edris produced another world-leading mark of 12:55.53 in the 5000m. In the pole vault, Sam Kendricks continued unbeaten with a best of 5.93m to win on countback from Poland s Pawel Wojciechowski, for whom the height was a personal best. Justin Gatlin, 35, won the 100m in 9.96, just 0.01 shy of his season s best set in winning the US trials. Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser set a meeting record of 22.39m. Dafne Schippers won the 200m in a European-leading 22.10 from Marie-Josee Ta Lou, who set an Ivory Coast record of 22.16.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide London, 9 July Olympic 5000m silver medallist Hellen Obiri upstaged Laura Muir s attempt to break the British mile record, breaking the Kenyan record and setting a meeting record of 4:16.56. Muir clocked 4:18.03, missing Zola Budd s British best by 0.06. Botswana s 2012 800m silver medallist Nijel Amos won in 1:43.18, his quickest time since 2015 and a world lead. Another world lead came in the women s 400m where Allyson Felix, who had taken the 2012 Olympic 200m title in this arena, recorded 49.65. A year on from her 100m hurdles world record of 12.20 on this track, Kendra Harrison won again, in 12.39, but Australia s Sally Pearson, back after injury, was second in a season s best of 12.48 her fastest since winning 2012 Olympic gold. Jamaica s Olympic champion Elaine Thompson maintained her 100m unbeaten run, clocking 10.94 ahead of Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands, who recorded 10.97. Fred Kerley s first professional race produced a personal best as the new US 400m champion was second in the 200m in 20.24 behind compatriot Ameer Webb s 20.13. Barbora Spotakova, beaten in Lausanne by her successor as Olympic javelin champion, Sara Kolak, got her own back. The 22-year-old Croatian thrower set meeting records of 66.79m and 67.83m before the 36-year-old world record-holder added her own, decisively at 68.26m. There was another meeting record in the long jump where world champion Tianna Bartoletta reached 7.01m to surpass the firstround 6.88m by Serbia s Ivana Spanovic, who then withdrew. In the high jump Maria Lasitskene cleared 2.00m for the 23rd time to earn her 20th consecutive victory.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Rabat, 16 July Jamaica s Olympic 100 and 200m champion Elaine Thompson won her 14th successive 100m race, clocking 10.87 ahead of Marie Josee Ta Lou s season s best of 10.90. Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas won the 400m in 49.80, with South Africa s Olympic 800m champion Caster Semenya seventh in 51.53. Botswana s 2012 Olympic 800m silver medallist Nijel Amos won his fourth race in a row, clocking 1:43.91. Home runner Soufiane El Bakkali won the 3000m steeplechase in a lifetime best of 8:05.12. Kenya s Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto, nursing an injured ankle, pulled out two laps from home. Canada s Andre de Grasse set a meeting 200m record of 20.03, while Britain s Chijindu Ujah won the 100m in 9.98, a season s best and meeting record. Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser earned his 10th successive victory with 22.47m. In the javelin, double Olympic champion Barbora Spotakova won with 63.73m. Polish pole vaulter Pawel Wojciechowski collected his second career IAAF Diamond League win by clearing 5.85m, but Brazil s Olympic champion Thiago Braz failed at his opening height of 5.40m.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Monaco, 21 July Jamaica s multiple world and Olympic champion sprinter Usain Bolt demonstrated once again, as he approached his career s finish line, that he was still a winner as he took the 100m in a season s best of 9.95. It was good, I m going in the right direction, there s still a lot of work to do, Bolt said after a performance that still left him only joint seventh on the 2017 world list. Clearing 5.82m proved beyond world pole vault record-holder Renaud Lavillenie but not Poland s Piotr Lisek, who equalled his personal best in victory. Caterine Ibarguen, the 33-year-old Colombian Olympic triple jump champion, produced a final effort of 14.68m to defeat 21-year-old Yulimar Rojas, who had beaten her in Rome the previous month. World and Olympic 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk was pushed to the line by Botswana s Isaac Makwala before earning victory in a meeting record of 43.73. Makwala clocked a season s best of 43.84. In the men s javelin, Olympic champion Thomas Rohler threw 89.17m to beat fellow German Johannes Vetter, whose 94.44m effort the previous week had topped Rohler s Doha season-opener of 93.90m and enabled him to move to second on the world alltime list behind Jan Zelezny. World high jump champion Maria Lasitskene registered her season s 10th clearance of 2.00m or higher before jumping 2.05m to add a centimetre to Heike Henkel s 1991 meeting record. The women s 100m hurdles was won by world record-holder Kendra Harrison in 12.51. Australia s 2012 Olympic champion Sally Pearson faded to fifth in 12.68. Olympic 800m champion Caster Semenya responded to pressure as her lead was challenged in the home straight by Burundi s Olympic silver medallist Francine Niyonsaba and US runner Ajee Wilson. The South African held on to win in 1:55.27 a South African record, an IAAF Diamond League record, a meeting record and the fastest time run up to that point in the year. Niyonsaba and Wilson set national records of 1:55.47 and 1:55.61. The men s 1500m saw Elijah Manangoi pass fellow Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot in the final 50 metres before replacing him at the top of this year s world list with a time of 3:28.80. Cheruiyot clocked a personal best of 3:29.10. Kenya s Olympic 5000m silver medallist Hellen Obiri won the 3000m in 8:23.14, moving to the top of the year s rankings.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Birmingham, 20 August Mo Farah s final track race on British soil finished appropriately as he won his 3000m in 7:38.64 to huge and predictable acclaim. I never dreamed I would become a four-time Olympic champion and multiple world champion, said the 34-year-old. Mutaz Essa Barshim hadn t trained since winning the world high jump title a week earlier but it didn t stop him making his first 2.40m clearance of the season, which was a meeting record. Barshim thus became the first man in history to clear that height or higher for five consecutive years. And he walked off with the bar he had cleared as a souvenir. The women s 3000m saw Kenya s world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri seize up 200 metres from the line before being passed by world indoor 1500m champion Sifan Hassan, who won in a Dutch record of 8:26.90, and Germany s Konstanze Klosterhalfen, second in a German record of 8:29.89. Jamaica s double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, who had missed a medal at the World Championships, won the 100m in 10.93. In the women s 400m, Bahrain s world silver medallist Salwa Eid Naser won in 50.59 ahead of a field that included world champion Phyllis Francis.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Zurich, 24 August A sell-out crowd of 25,000 at the Letzigrund Stadium witnessed the first of the two championship-style IAAF Diamond League finals. 17 newly-established world champions and 14 reigning Olympic champions were in winner-takes-all pursuit of Diamond Trophies each with a top prize of US$50,000. Mo Farah brought his track career to an end with a dramatic 5000m victory after a frantic finish that saw him take the Diamond Trophy by just 0.04 from Paul Chelimo of the United States and the Ethiopian who had prevented him winning a fourth consecutive world 5000m title earlier in the month, Muktar Edris. Britain s four-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion covered the final 200 metres flanked by three opponents Chelimo, later disqualified for obstruction, Edris, and his Ethiopian colleague Yomif Kejelcha before straining forward to win in 13:06.05. His last track race earned him his first Diamond Trophy. Australia s 30-year-old world champion Sally Pearson also earned her first Diamond Trophy, by a couple of thousandths of a second, after she and Sharika Nelvis were timed at 12.55. Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo secured her first Diamond Trophy in her supposed second event in clocking 21.88 for the 200m 0.03 inside her national record. World high jump champion Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar earned his third Diamond Trophy with a best of 2.36m. US pole vault world champion Sam Kendricks extended his 2017 unbeaten run to 11 after clearing 5.87m to take his first Diamond Trophy. World record-holder Renaud Lavillenie s hopes of extending his unique run of winning every Diamond Trophy since the competition began in 2010 ended as he failed his opening height of 5.63m. Croatia s 22-year-old Olympic javelin champion Sara Kolak led into the final round with 64.24m, but finished third as Australia s Kelsey-Lee Roberts threw a lifetime best of 64.53m and world

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Timothy Cheruiyot, beaten to the world 1500m gold by training partner Elijah Manangoi, held off his Kenyan compatriot to win in 3:33.93. Kazakhstan s 2012 Olympic triple jump champion Olga Rypakova was without an international win in 2017, but on a rainy night she claimed the overall prize with 14.55m ahead of Venezuela s world champion Yulimar Rojas, who managed 14.52m, and Colombia s Olympic champion Caterine Ibarguen, who reached 14.48m. Britain s Chijindu Ujah took a first Diamond Trophy on a 100m photo-finish from Ben Youssef Meite as both clocked 9.97. Isaac Makwala, whose medal ambitions over 200m and 400m at the World Championships had been undermined by illness, took the 400m Diamond Trophy in 43.95 after world silver medallist Stephen Gardiner of The Bahamas had slipped off his blocks. The 400m hurdles also provided drama as Norway s world champion Karsten Warholm lost his lead to the British Virgin Islands Kyron McMaster, who won in 48.07. Warholm was second in a national record of 48.22. champion Barbora Spotakova secured her fifth Diamond Trophy with 65.54m. Ruth Jebet won the Diamond Trophy in the women s 3000m steeplechase in 8:55.29 the second fastest time ever behind her own world record of 8:52.78. China s world champion Gong Lijiao won the women s shot put with 19.60m. Caster Semenya successfully defended her 800m Diamond Trophy as she extended her unbeaten run to 20 meetings in 1:55.84. There was more Diamond Trophy success for South Africa in the men s long jump with Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai finishing 1-2. Manyonga, the world champion, won with an 8.49m leap to extend his unbeaten run to 10. Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic claimed the overall prize in the men s javelin with 88.50m.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Brussels, 1 September Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas added the 400m Diamond Trophy to the 200m version she had won a week earlier in Zurich as she clocked 49.46, the fastest time of 2017, in the second IAAF Diamond League final of the season at the King Baudoin Stadium Miller-Uibo was pushed by 19-year-old Bahrain athlete Salwa Eid Naser, second in 49.88. A best of 17.49m was enough to secure world and Olympic triple jump champion Christian Taylor his sixth Diamond Trophy, leaving him just one adrift of France s world pole vault record-holder Renaud Lavillenie s total. Croatia s Olympic discus champion Sandra Perkovic produced an effort of 68.82m that earned her a sixth consecutive Diamond Trophy, a record tally for a woman. On a night when a major power cut in northern Brussels affected operations, world champion Faith Kipyegon and Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands lit up the AG Memorial Van Damme with an all-out surge around the final lap of the 1500m which eventually saw the Kenyan claim her first Diamond Trophy. Kipyegon clocked a season s best of 3:57.04, with Hassan leader of the year s world list with 3:56.14 taking second place in 3:57.22. World 110m hurdles silver medallist Sergey Shubenkov finished powerfully to take his first Diamond Trophy in a time of 13.14. Now I ve got my first overall Diamond League title, said Shubenkov. Maybe thanks to the system of one all-or-nothing race in the final. But it worked for me, so I m very happy! The men s shot put final took place a day before the main meeting at the Place de la Monnaie in Brussels and Darrell Hill of the United States hit the jackpot with a last round meeting record of 22.44m, more than half a metre over his personal best, eclipsing the first-round effort of 22.37m by his compatriot Ryan Crouser, the Olympic champion.

Competition review 2017 IAAF Diamond League media guide Double world high jump champion Maria Lasitskene maintained her unbeaten run with a best of 2.02m. Jamaica s Olympic 100m and 200m champion Elaine Thompson, who failed to earn a medal at the previous month s IAAF World Championships in London, earned a second consecutive Diamond Trophy in the women s 100m, recording 10.92. Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto claimed the prize in the men s 3000m steeplechase as he edged past Soufiane El Bakkali to win his third Diamond Trophy in a time of 8:04.73. A time of 20.00 earned 20-year-old Noah Lyles of the United States overall victory in the men s 200m. Kenya s world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri won her Diamond Trophy in 14:25.88 ahead of compatriot Caroline Kipkirui, who clocked a personal best of 14:27.55. Olympic 400m hurdles champion Dalilah Muhammad held off a late challenge from the Czech Republic s Zuzana Hejnova, world champion in 2013 and 2015, to win in 53.89. Serbian long jumper Ivana Spanovic, who missed a medal at the World Championships, finished her season a winner thanks to a final effort of 6.70m. Nijel Amos was another athlete frustrated in London who found a golden lining in Brussels as he won the men s 800m in 1:44.53. Lithuania s world discus champion Andrius Gudzius earned victory with 68.16m. Greece s world and Olympic pole vault champion Ekaterini Stefanidi earned her second Diamond Trophy with 4.85m.
