Meet the Head Coach Head Coach Bob Walsh Bob Walsh begins his ninth season as Rhode Island College's head men s basketball coach. He has presided over one of the most successful periods in the program's storied history as RIC has made eight consecutive trips to the postseason and seven straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Walsh has led RIC to the Sweet 16 three times and the Elite Eight once. He owns a 184-54 (.773) record and has won five Little East Conference Regular Season Championships and five Tournament Championships. In 2012-2013, Walsh led the Anchormen to a 26-4 overall record and a 13-1 mark in Little East Conference play to win the league s Regular Season Championship. Rhode Island College defeated UMass Dartmouth and Southern Maine to become the first team in conference history to advance to seven straight Little East Conference Tournament Championship games. The Anchormen utilized their hallmark defensive pressure to outlast Keene State, 60-53, and capture the program's fifth LEC Conference Championship trophy. After dispatching Hobart, 62-59, in overtime in the First Round of the 2013 NCAA Div. III Men s Basketball Tournament, the Anchormen fell in overtime to Morrisville State in the Second Round, 66-61. For his efforts, Walsh received the Jim Baron Div. III Coach of the Year by the Rhode Island Basketball Media and was named the Little East Conference Coach of the Year as well. He was also named one of 15 finalists for the 2013 Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year, which is presented annually to the top Div. III men's basketball coach. In 2011-12, Walsh was honored by Rhode Island College with the Alumni Staff Award. He led the Anchormen to a 23-7 overall record and a 10-4 (second place tie) mark in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen notched their sixth consecutive 20-win campaign and earned their sixth straight NCAA Div. III Tournament appearance. After knocking off Salem State in the first round, 77-60, RIC s season came to an end with a 77-67 loss to Staten Island in the second round of the tournament. RIC played in the Little East Tournament Championship Game for the sixth straight campaign. In 2010-11, RIC posted a 21-8 overall record and an 11-3 (first place tie) mark in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Div. III Tournament for the third time in five years, with the season coming to an end in a 78-74 loss to Amherst in the sectional round on March 11. Rhode Island College shared the 2011 Little East Conference Regular Season Championship with Western Connecticut, marking the program s fifth regular season championship in the past seven years (2010, 09, 07, 05). After a first-round bye, Rhode Island College defeated Keene State (102-92 2OT) on Feb. 25 and then defeated Eastern Connecticut (62-49) on Feb. 26 to win the Little East Tournament title for the fourth time in the last five years (2010, 08, 07). The Anchormen picked up two wins in the NCAA Tournament to reach the Sweet 16. In 2008-09, RIC went 23-6 and posted a 13-1 mark in the Little East Conference, establishing a new program record for league wins in a season en route to the Anchormen's third Regular Season Championship in the past five seasons. Rhode Island College, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight campaign, was selected as a four-team host site for the second time in three years. In 2007-08, the Anchormen posted a 23-7 overall record and an 11-3 (second place) mark in the Little East Conference. Rhode Island College won the LEC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season where it won its first round game. In 2006-07, Walsh led Rhode Island College to a 27-4 overall record, establishing the best season in school history for wins. The Anchormen went 12-2 (first place) in the Little East Conference, capturing the program's first-ever LEC Regular Season Championship. RIC advanced to the Sweet 16 and then to the Elite 8 where the Anchormen lost to the eventual National Champion (Amherst). It was the program's first appearance in the NCAAs in 28 years. Walsh led the Anchormen to a 19-10 overall record and a 9-5 (third place) finish in the Little East Conference during his first season at the helm in 2005-06.
