Thank you for your interest in our 2015 sale. Our main program continues to be our Fall Calving females. In the sale there are Fall cows close to calving (or pairs by sale day), fall bred heifers (or pairs), and yearling open fall heifers ready to breed. We hope you will find the genetics and the quality of the females to your liking. We are particularly proud of the open fall heifers as they represent our newest genetics. The fall cows in the sale will primarily be calving outside our calving window or cows that are bigger in size than we desire. Most of them are young cows with long productive lives ahead. We continue to bring our latest genetics into the herd and we need to make room for them. We have chosen to tighten up our calving window and some very nice cows will be available for this reason. In this sale, as in past sales, we are selling some of our biggest cows. There are also a handful of commercial females available as we put embryos in all our commercial cows and if they are not carrying an ET calf, they are in the sale. Over half of our spring cows and bred heifers will be in the sale. We have a large group of ET calves on the way and we need to manage the size of our Spring calving cows. We think you will find some nice females in the Spring Bred Cows and Spring Bred Heifers sections. I have written the description for every lot in the sale with the objective of you being as informed as you can be about the female. I have tried to stay fact-based, but my enthusiasm does slip in once in awhile. More importantly, if we know about a weakness in an animal, we have included it in the lot description. But, that does not mean we know everything or that we won t have missed something. For example, we are scoring udders on our cows at the time of calving, but we do not have that completed so we may not have an udder issue identified. We are particular about udders, and there are some cows in the sale that have serviceable udders, but that do not meet our standards and we have noted such. In the open heifer sections we have tried to also provide information on her dam, as we think that is important information to a buyer. I have been told that some of the descriptions might not maximize the sale price of an animal, and we understand that. But, that is not nearly as important as our buyers being satisfied with their purchases, and trusting us as a reliable source of seedstock genetics in the future. We had a goal of having 50K enhanced epds and parent verification on all of our cows. We have essentially reached that goal although there are a couple of older cows in this sale without 50K epds. When we can increase the accuracy of a young female s epds, equivalent to her having 7-10 calves, it is information we want to have. As you will also notice the females have been parent verified to the greatest extent possible at the time of the DNA submission. We want the genetics you are buying to be the genetics you are getting. For us, 50K epds optimize the science of breeding, and that is the easy part. The art of breeding is the much tougher part and it includes things like evaluating pedigrees, dispositions, feet, udders, conformation, and all the other things that go into creating a sound and durable female. These subjective factors, are extremely important, but sometime seem to get overshadowed by a fancy set of epds. A long time ago I learned that all of the important characteristics of a business can rarely be measured objectively. And, if they could you would not need people, other than to keep the computers running. For that reason we always try to pay attention to the subjective, but important aspects of cattle that are not numbers driven. Through our sale we will again donate semen in order to raise money for Red Angus youth. We will split the proceeds equally among the Kansas Junior Red Angus Association, the North American Jr Red Angus Show (NAJRAE), and the National Junior Red Angus (JRA). But, we are most excited about the Fall ET heifer we are selling to benefit the WOUNDED WARRIORS FOUNDATION. We will also be auctioning off donations and together with the sale proceeds of the heifer, a donation will be give to WOUNDED WARRIORS FOUNDATION in the name of Red Angus Producers. Cobank will also match our donations up to $10,000. We ask for your help in raising funds from the Red Angus industry to help our wounded veterans and their families!!! We are proud to be associated with agriculture and in particular the Red Angus breed. In our short tenure we have met so many fine people and fellow producers. We could not be prouder of what we do. It is only possible because we have the help of our herdsmen Leroy Parks and Eric Moore. These gentleman do a fantastic job with our cattle and without them we would be lost. And, our cattle would miss them dearly. I also thank my wife Susie for allowing me to spend the majority of my retirement time on our Red Angus business and my son Jared, and daughter Amy for all their help on the records and software. I supplement these technical efforts with my marginal skills and lots of stupid questions :) We appreciate your time and interest in our sale and wish you health, happiness and prosperity. Welcome to the RHODES RED ANGUS Fall Female Fiesta Sale We are proud to be associated with agriculture and in particular the Red Angus breed. In our short tenure we have met so many fine people and fellow producers. We could not be prouder of what we do. Sincerely, Darryl W. Rhodes RHODES RED ANGUS, LLC. Darryl, Susie, Jared Rhodes (back left) and Amy, Julia, Natalie, and Jeff Walenta 2 Fall Female Fiesta Sale

Welcome It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to female offering of Rhodes Red Angus! Phenomenal and fast paced times are upon the Red Angus breed with record growth and registrations. The ranching public is rapidly figuring out the hardiness, heat tolerance, and the reliability or their predictable genetic indicators. A data base, second to none, and a vision that will soon leave the rest of the pack on the trail of success. The Rhodes program is at the forefront of genetic selection, predictability, and profitability. Darryl has done a tremendous job of assembling a program and a cowherd with unmatched quality and integrity. He has been diligent with the numbers and selection thereof, but as the program has grown and evolved, pressure is being applied to shear cowboy production in regards to fertility, calf weight, udder quality, and feet. The cattle in this offering are represented by Darryl and his utmost, straight-forward assessment of their status, type, and kind within his program. It is for these aforementioned reasons that Rhodes Red Angus is a program worthy of your investment and your future in production agriculture. Please plan to join us October 4th, the day after the Under the Influence Sale, at the Eby Ranch facility. In the event that you have any questions or need assistance feel free to contact any of the sale staff or a member of Cattle In Demand. The Fall Open Heifers We hope you will find this group of females to your liking. From our perspective they are the best we have raised. We strive for better cattle every year and think that is the nature of the seedstock business. Either you are moving forward, or you are moving out. By changing our sale from early summer to October our fall females have had more time to mature and give buyers a better sense of the quality of the heifers. We have some choice lots in the sale, and are also offering some calves from our ET program. We have also consigned some nice heifers to the Mulberry Mayhem/Under the Influence sale which will be held the day before, so please give them a look also. They have had the same protocol as described below. The fall calves we raised had access to creep feed this winter. We used a limiter to hold down consumption and keep them from over-feeding. In our area a fall calf never sees green grass until after they are weaned. Several long-time producers in our area have said their spring calves always outweigh their fall calves by 100 to 150 pounds at weaning. We believe the creep must be managed, but it does help express the genetic potential of the calves. Our ET calves that came from satellite herds did not receive supplemental feed, and have had some catching up to do. They started at a lighter weight, and although they have done well this summer, you will still see some differences in the calves. These are environmental and not genetic. All heifers have all been tested as PI negative and have been calf-hood vaccinated for brucellosis. They were freeze branded on August 13th and it may take a little longer for their freeze brands to fully show up. As calves these heifers received the following vaccinations: Cattlemaster Gold 5 (killed virus); Apha7MB; Autogenous pinkeye; and MultiMin. In late April they received: Vista Once SQ (MLV); Longrange Injectible; Saber pour-on; pink-eye booster; and 2 fly tags for the summer. In the past few years we have had some Anaplasmosis in our area and these heifers have all had a shot and a booster for Anaplasmosis. If you want to continue this, they will need an annual booster each year in the spring. The expert on this vaccine and protocol is Dr Gene Luther at LSU. He can be reached at 1-800-308-5242 or on his cell at 225-266-8375. They were calf-hood vaccinated for brucellosis on 8-14-15. At that time they received Vista 5 (MLV) and MultiMin, and a Dectomax pour-on. They each also got a shot of Lutalyze as we had a neighbor s bull visit for a day in August. These heifers went to summer pasture in late April and have had ADM mineral with CTC and IGR free choice. Since mid-july they have also had roughage buster free choice. We plan to start some protein supplement in September when the grass quality has diminished. These heifers have had a healthy summer and none have been doctored. They are guaranteed open and as breeders. Join us in supporting the Wounded Warrior Project The Wounded Warrior Project is a cause close to our hearts. The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families. WWP takes a holistic approach when serving warriors and their families to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement. Through a high-touch and interactive approach, WWP hopes to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation s history. Rhodes Red Angus will auction off the 1 heifer and then make a donation to WWP in the amount of the sale price. CoBank has pledged to match our donation to WWP up to $10,000. Fall Open Heifers 1 Sire of s 1 & 2 - Yardmaster Dam of s 1 & 2 - Jewels The successful purchaser will be purchasing this Yardmaster 125Y heifer out of our Pandora Jewels 186Y donor cow. Jewels is a direct daughter of the prestigious Julian B571 bull and a daughter of the powerful Pandora M186 cow that was a very successful and prolific donor for Messmer Red Angus and DAMAR Farms for many years. Pandora has 136 progeny in the Red Angus registry and is the grand-dam of the Packer bull. Jewels is a quiet, 1375# cow with a good udder. Her pedigree is packed with elite Red Angus genetics. Jewel is pictured above the day after weaning the 2 heifer calf. Yardmaster 125Y females have been in high demand at Solution Genetics in Iowa, Overmiller Red Angus in Kansas, as well as other places. He was a very coveted yearling bull that was syndicated to 18 Red Angus and Simmental breeders. His progeny work as show cattle and as breeding stock. He is a Cowboy Cut son out of Solution Genetics very successful Bailey s Tess 751T donor cow. Combined with the genetics from the Pandora Jewels cow, we believe Tess will make an outstanding cow that any producer would be proud to have in their program. 1 RHODES ET 125Y TESS 480 Calved: 9/25/14 Reg: 1725256 Tattoo: 480 Category: 1A - 100% RED LAZY MC STOUT 30S RED LAZY MC COWBOY CUT 26U RED LAZY MC STAR 185M 55 - SLGN YARDMASTER 125Y UBAR HIGH CAPACITY 224 SLGN BAILEY S TESS 751T MEADO-WEST BAILEY 019K 464 - BECKTON JULIAN GG B571 BKT JULIAN 7526 G BKT MARTA 9A13 JL 1EN PANDORA JEWELS 186Y 704 - LELAND MARIAS 271K MESSMER PANDORA M186 MESSMER PANDORA 9976 130 49 9-2.8 57 87 21-3 12 5 11 0.52 0.24 18-0.05 0.06 28% 53% 9% 20% 56% 57% 45% 24% 17% 34% 51% 31% 99% 63% 81% 99% More Than One Way to Help Prior to the selling 1, Rhodes Red Angus will be soliciting tax-deductible donations from Red Angus Producers directly to the WOUNDED WARRIORS FOUNDATION. Fall Open Heifers 2 Grandsire of s 1 & 2 - Julian Granddam of s 1 & 2 - Pandora This spring heifer is a full sister to the #1 fall heifer. 18C is the natural calf of our Pandora 186Y donor cow that we like so much. Her sire is the Yardmaster 125Y bull that we, and many other breeders, bought into that was raised by Solution Genetics. He has been successful in siring show cattle and breeding cattle. We believe this is a female that would turn some heads in a show halter and then make a very successful breeding animal. This January heifer is dark red and very attractive. Our only consolation is that we have a couple full sisters coming into the herd, but they are not as good as this heifer. This is an opportunity for an elite female. Fall Open Heifers 3 Sire of s 3 & 4 - New Direction Selling Choice! 4 One of these Andras New Direction R240 heifers will sell and the other one will come back home. This will be among the first daughters of this new GENEX sire to sell. After you take a look at these two females you may want to order some semen. Both dams are 1350# cows with good udders. You can not go wrong with either of these heifers and suffice it to say there have been second thoughts about selling one of them. We have a full sister to the New Direction R240 bull that we acquired from Will and Steve Andras as a yearling. She went into our donor pen last winter and is doing quite well. We cannot wait to get some of her embryo calves on the ground as we are confident they will be special. We like these two heifers a lot and believe they will both make exceptional cows. Fall Open Heifers 5 Dam of s 5 & 6 - Queen Jewel Selling Choice! 6 One of these Julian B571 heifers will sell. As we got 4 heifer calves out of this flush we decided we could share. This will likely be one of the few direct daughters of Julian B571 to sell this year. His semen is very scarce and expensive (last sold for $1000 a straw) and the genetics are hard to let go. These two ET full sisters are out of our Queen Jewel donor cow that is a Make My Day daughter and a granddaughter of the famous JRA James 904 cow. She weighed 1550# this spring and has a good udder. These heifers were raised until weaning in a satellite herd in fescue country. All of these calves were smaller when they came, and it took them awhile to get started. Fall Open Heifers 7 Dam of s 7 & 8 - Lana Selling Pick! Winner bidder gets choice and then remaining heifer will be offered again. 8 Take your choice of these flush mate heifers out of the Yardmaster 125Y bull and our Lana YT137 donor cow that is a full sister to the deceased Julian LT142 bull that was so popular at the Mushrush and Beckton operations. YT137 is a 1350# cow that has a nice udder, and is deep, wide and cherry red. Look at the calving ease she puts into her calves. We believe both of these heifers will make outstanding cows, and if you want to be able to raise calving ease bulls and females take a look. These heifers were also behind when they came in the spring. We like the YT137 cow a lot and are keeping 3 other ET daughters for our herd. Fall Open Heifers 9 Selling Pick! Winner bidder gets choice and then remaining heifer will be offered again. Sire of s 9 & 10 - Right Kind Dam of s 9 & 10 - Abigrace 10 These are our last ET calves and both females will sell. There were 4 heifers in this flush. These calves are sired by the very popular The Right Kind U199 sire from Buffalo Creek Red Angus. If you have been watching Red Angus sales in the last couple years you probably have noticed some very high selling bull calves sired by him. PIE Cowboy Kind, Pie One of a Kind, and 5L Independence are a few examples and there are many more. The dam is our prolific Abigrace U875 donor cow that came from Steve Maier at C-Bar Ranch. She currently has 66 progeny registered and many more on the way. U875 is a moderate grand-daughter of the legendary Abigrace cow from the Brown Ranch in Texas. These heifers have also been catching up, and the current differences are environmental and not genetic. We believe in these genetics and will have more calves out of this mating in the future. Look at the balance in the epd profiles. The Fall Bred Heifers We hope you will find these fall bred heifers of interest. They will be heavy bred or pairs by sale day. The due date, AI bull, and Natural Service bull are listed for each heifer and comprise the best information available to us. These heifers were preg checked on 2-27-15 by sonogram and if the calf could be sexed at the time the forecasted sex is shown. Please understand that we cannot guarantee the calf sex, sire, or calving date. These heifers were cleaned up in separate pastures to the following Natural Service (NS) bulls: Z10 - RHODES TOP SHELF, RAA: 1568394 118A - RHODES CONQUEST, RAA: 1652562. The clean-up bulls went in December 3, 2014 and came out February 3, 2015. The heifers we raised would have had 2 rounds of modified live and 2 rounds of 7-way as calves. At pre-breeding all heifers got Cattlemaster4VL5, Alpha7MB, MultiMin, and a pour-on dewormer. In early April they all got Alpha 7MB, LONGRANGE injectible, saber, MultiMin and 2 fly tags. They also received 2 anaplasmosis immunizations. 26 26 27 27 RHODES 4405P LANA 102A Calved: 8/18/13 Reg: 1652546 Tattoo: 102A Category: 3-50% BKT JULIAN 7526 G BECKTON JULIAN GG B571 BKT MARTA 9A13 JL 62 96 HXC CONQUEST 4405P BFCK CHEROKEE CNYN 4912 HXC ELLIE MAY MA638 HXC 529E NON-REGISTERED DAM 98 47 9-2 52 76 24-5 1 3 10 0.09-0.1 12-0.04-0.05 66% 82% 9% 31% 74% 77% 22% 12% 99% 68% 64% 96% 7% 78% 77% 1% Lana is currently showing as a category 3 as we had DNA sample problems in parent verifying her to the cow that raised her. Rhodes W384 Top Shelf Z10 - NS Sire to Fall Breds The Power of 50K Performance observations collected at the ranch are impacted by the animal s genetics, which can include hundreds or thousands of genes. Recent advancements in DNA technology have now allowed for the identification of a portion of genes that have a significant favorable or unfavorable impact on a particular trait. 50K is the tool that observes 50,000 locations on the animal s genome and identifies which genes that animal possesses and their impact on various traits. The result: additional informative data available for EPD calculations. Genetic predictions will always be based on data; however, the means in which we collect data has and will likely continue to evolve. Previously, the Red Angus Association of America relied solely on phenotypic observations such as weaning weights and ultrasound data to calculate EPDs. The delivery of 50K technology provides additional data points that can be applied to an animal s EPD calculations. Data obtained from a 50K test can be as informative as a bull s first calf crop or a cow s lifetime production record, thus, providing stakeholders with a tool to vastly increase accuracy of an animal s EPDs. Accuracy EPDs predict an animal s true genetic merit, which can be passed on to offspring. As the amount of data included in an animal s EPD calculation increases, ranchers can have more confidence that the EPD correctly identifies the animal s true genetic merit. This is communicated to stakeholders in the form of Accuracy, which is printed in conjunction with each EPD and ranges from 0 to 99. Increased Data = Increased Accuracy = Increased Reliability The power of 50K is the ability to collect additional genetic prediction data before an animal is selected to enter or exit the herd. Thus, allowing producers to achieve their genetic goals at a faster rate, as the genetic predictions used in selection decisions are of higher accuracy. October 4, 2015 - Emporia, Kansas 19

The Fall Calving Cows When we started, we only had a fall herd, and many of these cows were purchased as spring heifers and held over for fall breeding. We continue to bring new genetics into our herd and make room for them by selling some of our cows. We do not have many older cows so the main criteria used to determine our sale cows was size and calving date. We are tightening up our calving window in 2015. These Fall cows were pregnancy checked with sonogram on 3-6-15. The calf sex is shown when it could be determined with some reliability. Sex of the calf on cows less than 60 days bred at the time, was not determinable. We are providing the best pregnancy information we have available, but there is no guarantee that the calf s called sex or sire will be what was predicted at preg check and shown below. Cow less than 30 days bred on 3-6-14 were rechecked by palpation on 4-13-15. Also, please refer to the Breeding Guarantee in the sale terms. The AI bull and date of AI is shown, if applicable, and the forecasted calving date. If the cow is bred by Natural Service (NS) it will be by one of the bulls listed below: TOOL TIME 1102Y, RAA:1439174 LOOKOUT 6023, RAA: 1588846, There is one exception and it is otherwise noted. RAAA has DNA on both of these bulls in order to parent verify the sire of the calves. Tool Time was the older and the more dominant bull in the pasture. At pre-breeding in 2014 the cows got Cattlemaster4VL5, Ultrabac7, MultiMin, and a pour-on. In late March of 2015 they got Cattlemaster4VL5, Alpha 7, MultiMin, Longrange injectible, Saber pour-on, and 2 fly tags. They also were immunized with 2 doses of Anaplasmosis vaccine and to maintain this, an annual booster is required each spring. 50 EURA BELINDA 51-34X Calved: 3/1/10 Reg: 1359143 Tattoo: 34X Category: 1A - 100% BECKTON LANCER T A664 LJC LANCER 806 LJC HB LIZZIE 606 94 116 LJC MISSION STATEMENT P27 HOLDEN HI HO 753 LJC HANNAH 106 LJC KJ JAMIE 516 624 103 OHRR DAKOTA COPPER 29K LCHMAN COPPER ROB 1204D MESSMER OPHELIA 9502 MISS BHR COPPER D 51 BHR LOGAN 734B MISS BHR LOGAN 356 MISS BHR GLACIER BO891 50 84 50-7 3.7 81 134 19 8 10 3 11 0.41 0.01 55 0.51-0.02 66% 13% 99% 99% 2% 1% 58% 90% 52% 64% 36% 48% 43% 1% 3% 12% Belinda is a large cow that came to us from Uriell Red Angus in North Dakota as a yearling. She seems to always stay in good condition, and in the right situation, might be good for a few more calves. The Spring Bred Heifers We believe we have some nice cow prospects in our Spring Bred heifer section. We raised some of these heifers and bought the others as calves in the Erdman s dispersal sale in South Dakota last fall. The heifers we raised have had two rounds of modifiedlive 5 way and 2 rounds of 7-way clostridial. The purchased heifers have had at least one round of these shots. All heifers got Cattlemaster4VL5, Alpha7MB, MultiMin, Autogenous pinkeye, and 2 rounds of Anaplasmosis vaccine at pre-breeding. They also received Longrange injectible, Saber pour-on, and 2 fly tags for the summer. To our knowledge they are all freeze branded. None have been doctored this summer. With two exceptions noted, these heifers were preg checked by sonogram on 8-19-15. Calves were not sexed. If the heifer was AI ed it is shown. HXC Hot Shot 4424B (1719141) was turned in with these heifers on 5-18-15 and came out on 7-7-15. Blair Ag of Canada purchased this Julian B571 son at Hueftle s March 2015 bull sale as the high selling bull at $31,000. We leased 4424B this spring for natural service purposes with this group of heifers (with one exception) and also used him AI on a few heifers. The breeding and pregnancy information is the best available information, but we cannot guarantee the pregnancy or sire of the calf born. Please refer to the Breeding Guarantee Section of the Sale Terms. The calving date for heifers bred to the AI sires will be Feb 20-21, 2016. The Spring Bred Cows We are making a significant reduction in our Spring cow herd by selling almost 50% of our cows and bred heifers. Most of these cows are young and have many productive years ahead. All cows have been tested PI negative. On 4-16-15 they all received: Cattlemaster4VL5; Alpha7MB; Longrange Injectible; Saber pour-on;, MultiMin; and 2 fly tags. The AI date and sire are shown. The Natural Service (NS) bulls are: Group A - Top Shelf Z10, RAA: 1568394 from 5-24 to 8-10-15. Group B - Optic Spy 100A, RAA: 1681178 from 5-24 to 6-28-15. Top Shelf Z10, RAA: 1568394 from 6-29 to 8-10-15. The Optic Spy bull was injured trying to jump a fence and was pulled out at that time for some stitches in sensitive areas. Fortunately our vet thinks he will make a full recovery. At that time the cows in his pasture were put in with the Z10 bull. Both bulls have DNA on file at RAAA for parent verification. The cows were preg checked by sonogram on 8-10-15 but were not fetal sexed. The preg check results are shown, if applicable. Cows bred less than 30 days as of 8-10-15 will be rechecked and the results shown in the supplement sheet for the sale. The breeding and pregnancy information is the best available information but we cannot guarantee the actual sire of the calf born. Also please refer to the Breeding Guarantee section in the sale terms. These cows are pictured in their working clothes. Their calves were weaned on 8-24-15 which is the same day we took still pictures for the catalog. And, the videos were done on 9-7-15. The cows are just starting to put weight back on.
