Volume 30, Issue 3 Page 3 TCBA 2013-2014 As most of the bowlers in the TCBA know, for the first time in TCBA history there were no bid letters returned by bowling centers. Over 75 letters were distributed, and none returned. This prompted the executive board to make decisions for the continued success of the TCBA. We sat down at the All Star tournament and discussed our options. With declines in membership and All Star participation, we decided to make the following changes to the tournament structure. Several years ago the delegates voted to allow Regional Wildcard tournaments. Until now there was no need for this to take place. For three consecutive years the All Star participation was less than 15% of our league. This lack of participation prompted the board to take some sort of action. Doing away with the All Star tournament was an option the board did not want to do. We realize there are some bowlers that still want to bowl in a TCBA singles event. Therefore we agreed to combine the All Star and the National Playoffs in a four day event. Regional Wildcard tournaments will be held two weeks after the local regions complete their regular season. All teams qualifying with 721/2 games will qualify, just like before, only without the travel expense. The percentage going to the Playoff tournament will be 1 in 10. This means that every region s wildcard will have representation in the Playoffs. Also every team going to the Playoffs will cash. We will hold the All Star tournament Thursday and Friday. The Playoff tournament will be Saturday with finals on Sunday. Because of the volume of games that can take place over the weekend we will change the format of the tournaments somewhat. Bowlers in the All Star will roll four games to qualify, then the top 16 will bowl three games to determine the champions for each division. The format for the Playoffs will be four games instead of five for the qualifying squads, and the semi-finals will be three instead of four. The finals will remain an eight game round robin. In order have enough time to get the information from the regions we will move the Playoff tournament to the second week of June. This move will hopefully make it easier on the bowlers and give them the opportunity to make it a family vacation. The selection of the site for the tournament will be handled by the Executive board. We will select areas that have always thought of bidding but perhaps thought because of their size or location, would never be selected. The TCBA is for all bowlers and we want every region to feel as important as the rest. City View s 6601 Oakmont Blvd. Ft Worth, TX 76132 (817) 364-0444 2013 National Playoffs May 17 19 Ft. Worth, TX Free Wildcard entry in the 2013 TCBA National Playoffs This year s free Wildcard entries awarded during the All Star Tournament will go to the men s region and the women s region with the highest percentage of entries. The free wildcards are awarded for participation in the All Star Tournament. Ft Worth Women led the women s regions with 38% of their league s bowlers participating in the tournament, and Centex Men once again the highest participation rate at 39% of their league s bowlers, to win the honors three years in a row. Congratulations and thanks to both these regions!
