Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:20 PM Page 2 1. 2. 1. Unzip the cover and remove the pad that is protecting the Cable Attachments. 2. Lift the Down Tubes up and secure the Control Bar to the Down Tube. Make sure the Front Flying Wires are not wrapped around any of the tubes. 3. Warning: Do not spread Down Tubes past where they connect to the Control Bar. You could bend the bolt. 3. Grab the Front Flying Wires with one hand and use your other hand to lift the nose of the wing and roll the wing over standing the wing on the Control Bar. 2

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:21 PM Page 3 4. 4. Once the wing is standing on the Control Bar, undo all of the straps that are securing the Sail. Remember to store these in a safe place along with the bag and pads. 5. 5. Check all cables to make sure that they are pulling straight and are not kinked or twisted. 6. 6. Spread the Sail out. Pull the Kingpost out and remove protective cover over the Top Landing Wire connections. 3

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:21 PM Page 4 7. 7. Pull the Crossbar Tensioner through the Kingpost Hole. 8. 8. Insert the Kingpost over the nylon spacer and between the Pullback Cables. Note: when pulling the cables back, check to make sure they are not crossed or twisted. 9. 9. Insert Battens. Keep the end of the Batten low as you can. Do not allow the tip to dig in or you could damage the Batten pocket. All Battens are numbered on the end. Numbers begin at the Root (inside) and go to the Tip (outside). White tipped Battens are on right and the black tipped Battens on the left. 4

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:21 PM Page 5 10. 10. Insert the Tip Strut against the Strut Stop located on top of Leading Edge Tube. 11. Secure the end first with the Bungie Cord. 11. 12. Slide the Bungie Pull Loop off to the side and secure the Tensioner to the end of the Tip Strut. 13. This is what the end of the Tip Strut should look like when completed. 12. 13. 5

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:21 PM Page 6 14. 14. Go to the center of the wing at the rear. Grap the Tensioner Cables and pull down. Brace your knee against the Center tube for strength. 15. Hook the end of the Swan Catch over the Front Bolt in the channel at the base of the Keel Tube. 15. 16. 16. Pull the Swan Catch lever down and secure with the attached Quick Pin. WARNING: Double check to make sure that the securing ball is out after releasing the button. 6

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:21 PM Page 7 17. 17. Now is a good time to stop and doublecheck the pad protecting the Keel Tube. Make sure it is positioned as shown. 18. 18. Now you can attach the Front Flying Wires to the nose of the wing. It works best if you pull down slightly on the nose of the wing with one hand as you hook the Swan Catch. Secure with the attached Quick Pin. 19. If the batten is not already in place, insert the Nose Batten which is installed from the front of the wing. 20. Lift the nose of the Batten and insert into the hole on top of the Keel Tube. 19. 21. 20. 20. Install Washout Strut. As you position the Strut, push up on the wing and it should slide into position. Do not push into the hole with much force. It should slip in easily. It is possible to damage this tube. 7

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:22 PM Page 8 Attaching the Wing to the Trike 22. 23. Caution: if you have an instrument pod, you will need to create a Mast stop rod to keep the Mast from resting on the instrument pod. 22. Set the wing on its nose. Collapse the trike. Roll the trike s Front Wheel over the Control Bar. Insert the top of the Mast into the Hang Plate. This may take a little practice. Tip: Put your foot on the Base Tube of the trike and rest the mast on your knee while aligning the holes. 23. Secure the Wing to the Trike with the Hang Bolt. At this point you would install the Safety Cable if you have one. 24. 24. Roll the trike back until the wing is setting upright on the control bar. Let the front wheel pass over the control bar. When it gets just over the bar, block the rear wheels from rolling backwards. 25. 25. Install the Nose Cover. Attach the bottom Velco first, then attach the top. 8

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:22 PM Page 9 26. 26. Place the Seat Support bolts in your pocket. Place your toes under the Control bar so you can grab it with your hand. Place One hand on the Control bar and the other on the top of the Front Suspension. Now, roll your shoulders as you lift with the one hand on the Control Bar and push down with the other hand on the front of the trike. 27. 27. When the Control Bar is above your knees, simply walk the wing back to the trike. You will need to do this carefully. Watch where you are planting your feet. 28. WARNING: If you have a rear seat throttle, make sure the cable does not get kinked or hooked on the seat frame when standing the mast up. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WORK. INSPECT ALL FITTINGS AND BOLTS. MAKE SURE ALL BOLTS ARE TIGHT! 28. As the Wing moves into positon, take one hand and grab one of the Seat Side Supports and hold it in place. With your other hand remove one of the securing bolts from your pocket. DO NOT, AT ANY TIME, LET GO OF THE SEAT TUBES UNTIL YOU INSERTED THE BOLT! Once the Seat Supports are secured, attach the nose tube top first. 9

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:22 PM Page 10 Storing the Wing Reverse the order of installation. 1. Remove wing from the trike. 2. Relax the tension on the Keel Tube Rear Swan Catch. 3. Remove all Battens. 4. Feed the Swan Catch through the King Post hole. 4. 5. 5. Feed the King Post through the same hole and slide it into the Keel Pocket. 6. 6. Collect all of the Battens and stack each color together. Wrap and tie one group and then wrap and tie the second group to the first as shown. You can now put all of the Battens in the Batten Bag. 7. 7. Carefully fold the two wing halves together. make sure nothing is binding when you fold the wings. They should fold easily. 8. 10

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:22 PM Page 11 9. Move the two sides together. Pull the sail snug as shown. 9. Tip: Before folding the Wing, put all of the Wing Securing Straps in your pockets so you will have them handy when needed. 10. 10. Roll the fabric up along the trailing edge. Do not worry about the rest of the sale. Stay in the position shown and roll the sale to the center. 11. 11. Tuck the sail fabric into the pocket created by the sail itself as shown. 12. 12. Install the Kingpost protective cap. 11

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:22 PM Page 12 13. Using one of the straps, secure the first side of the sail. Then roll the fabric on the second side. 13. 14. Insert the protective pad over the Keel Tube. 14. 15. You can now remove the strap that you put around one half of the sail and now wrap it around both sides of the wing. 15. 12

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:22 PM Page 13 16. Continue to strap the wing. Undo the Swan Catch at the nose. 16. 17. Lay the carrying bag over the wing. Roll the wing over and lay on the ground. 17. 18. 18. Disconnect the Control Bar from the Down Tube and hold as shown in picture. Lay the Control Bar and Down Tubes on the Wing. 13

Wing assemblyfinal Master 4/29/04 11:23 PM Page 14 19. Once the Control Bar and Down Tubes are laying down, insert the protective pads under the connection areas. Make sure that none of the bolts or attachment ends are coming in contact with cables, fabric or tubing. 19. 20. 20. Insert the protective pad under the Hang Plate. Make sure that none of the bolts or attachment ends are coming in contact with cables, fabric or tubing. 21. 21. You can now place the Batten Bag at the tail end of the Wing Bag. Look the Wing over carefully for any metal surfaces that are rubbing together. Make sure all pads are well placed for protection. You can now zip the bag. Your wing is stored. 14
