Congratulations to all teams participating in the 2009 AAU Baseball National Championships! We are proud to be hosting our National Championships with Disney s Wide World of Sports for our 12 th year. This year we have nearly 100 teams from all across the country looking to compete for the right to be crowned National Champions. This year AAU is also proudly hosting the inaugural AAU Super Showcase for the 14U and 15U age divisions. This event is by invitation-only and the best teams in the country are here to showcase their skills not only in front of the fans, but also for Major League Baseball scouts on Skills Day. We are excited about this year s championships and hope that everyone has an enjoyable experience at Disney. If you re interested in competing in next year s National Championships, here are the dates for 2010 at Disney s Wide World of Sports. 2009 AAU Baseball National Championships Tournament Format Day 1: Registration and Opening Ceremonies Day 2: All teams will play two (2) pool-play games. Scheduled game times are 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. Day 3: Pools will be reseeded. All teams will play two (2) pool-play games. Scheduled game times are the same as on Day 1. Day 4: Rain make-up day or free day except for 14U and 15U Super Showcase. For Super Showcases, Day 4 will be the skills competition. Day 5: Single-elimination bracket play. Day 6: National Championship game. Day One Schedule Registration is from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. for all AAU tournaments held at Disney s Wide World of Sports. Players do not attend registration. The Managers and Coaches meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. Only the manager and one coach may attend due to space considerations. Opening Ceremonies begin at 8:00 p.m. Players must report to the stadium at 7:00 p.m. in full uniform to line up. AAU Membership Cards All AAU membership cards for the team should be printed and brought to registration for check-in. Equipment Drop-Off An equipment drop-off location will be designated and your equipment will be transported for you to your field each day. The equipment drop-off location will be announced at the Managers and Coaches Meeting.
Roster Rosters are limited to a maximum number of 20 players. A team advancing to an AAU National Championship from at least a 3 team qualifier shall be allowed to add or replace up to five players to its AAU District Roster (to a team maximum of twenty). Coaches Each team is entitled to a maximum of three (3) bench personnel (head coach and assistants), one (1) scorekeeper, and two (2) bat boys/girls. Each individual must be a registered as an AAU non-athlete. Only those coaches listed on the roster presented at check-in will be allowed in the dugout. Patches Players must wear a patch in every game of the National Championship Tournament. Therefore, if a team has more than one uniform jersey, each jersey must have a patch. The patch is to be placed on the left sleeve of each jersey. If the team utilizes a sleeveless vest, a patch may be placed on the left chest of the vest. It is not necessary to place a patch on the t-shirt worn under the vest. Coaches must also wear a patch, even if they use polo shirts as uniforms. The placement is to be the same location as the players. It is not necessary for scorekeepers and bat boys to wear patches. AAU Patches will also be sold at registration. Disney s Wide World of Sports Admission Fee For the National Championships at Disney s Wide World of Sports, there are two pricing options. Daily passes are available at $12.75 for adults, and $10.00 for children, ages 3-9. Tournament passes are $51 for adults, and $40 for children, ages 3-9. Daily tickets and tournament passes are only available via the box office at Disney s Wide World of Sports. Discounted Disney Theme Park Tickets Go to www.aaubaseball.org, then click on National Championships or Super Showcases, then scroll to your age division, click on Hotel Information, and finally Specially-Priced Theme Park Tickets. You will need a password to obtain pricing information. Included in this packet is a flyer titled Interested in Discounted Disney Park Tickets? with all of the passwords for your respective tournament. You must order 24 hours in advance.
Disney Water Park Tickets The entry fee, except for the 8U National Championship, includes ten free water park tickets. Additional tickets may be purchased for $22 by calling Disney Sports Travel at 1-866-537-7648 and mentioning the specific event you re attending. PITCHING GUIDELINES a. In the 8u age group, a player may pitch in a cumulative maximum of three (3) innings in consecutive calendar days after which that player much not pitch the next calendar day. b. In the 9u, 10u, 11u and 12u age groups, a player may pitch in a cumulative maximum of six (6) innings in consecutive calendar days after which that player must not pitch the next calendar day. Example # 1: Day 1 (2 innings), Day 2 (2 innings), Day 3 (1 inning), Day 4 (1 inning), Day 5 (must not pitch). Example # 2: Day 1 (3 innings), Day 2 (does not pitch), Day 3 (3 innings), Day 4 (3 innings), Day 5 (must not pitch). c. In the 13u, 14u, 15u and 16u age groups, a player may pitch in a cumulative maximum of ten (10) innings in consecutive calendar days after which that player may not pitch the next calendar day. Example: Day 1 (4 innings), Day 2 (4 innings), Day 3 (does not pitch), Day 4 (eligible to pitch). d. In the 17u and 18/19u age groups there are no restrictions on number of innings pitched. e. An "inning pitched" constitutes a pitcher being officially entered into the pitching position. The pitcher will then be charged with pitching that inning even if that pitcher does not throw a pitch. f. Upon reaching the applicable individual pitching limit, the pitcher is immediately removed as pitcher. EXCEPTION: When a game is suspended in mid-inning and continued on a future day, the pitcher of record is charged with an inning pitched just prior to suspension and also charged with an inning pitched immediately upon resumption of the game.
Excerpts from Eligibility Rules A. All athletes (participants), non-athletes (coaches, scorekeepers, and bat boys) must have a current AAU membership card. B. The age determining date for ALL age groups will be May 1. AGE GROUP BORN ON OR AFTER (FOR 2009) 18/19 & Under (18/19u) May 1, 1989 17 & Under (17u) May 1, 1991 16 & Under (16u) May 1, 1992 15 & Under (15u) May 1, 1993 14 & Under (14u) May 1, 1994 13 & Under (13u) May 1, 1995 12 & Under (12u) May 1, 1996 11 & Under (11u) May 1, 1997 10 & Under (10u) May 1, 1998 9 & Under (9u) May 1, 1999 8 & Under (8u) May 1, 2000 C. Proof of age will be required. It is necessary that all AAU-approved birth documents must be uploaded onto the Online Registration site prior to arriving at Team Registration for the National Championship. D. An athlete may elect to participate in their District of bona fide residence or a District which geographically adjoins that District. EXCEPTION: In team sports, a maximum of three (3) athletes may participate with a team from an adjoining District(s). The athlete must register through the Registrar of the District in which they reside. E. A team member on the roster of a District team that qualifies for and COMMITS to the National Championship may not be picked up by another team, unless approved by the AAU Baseball Executive Committee. F. A player may participate in more than one National Championship for which that player is eligible. If a player s original team COMMITS to a National Championship then that player will not be allowed to leave their current team to play for another. Once that team is eliminated from National Championship play then that player may join a different team, as long as all eligibility requirements are met. G. A player CANNOT participate in a Division one (1) National Championship and then participate in a Division two (2) National Championship in the same age group. A Player MAY participate in a Division two (2) National Championship and then participate in a Division one (1) National Championship in the same age group. H. At the National Championships in ALL AGE GROUPS, all team members must be on the roster presented at the time of team registration. Even though a player(s) may not be physically present at time of team registration, the player(s) will still be eligible to play if the player(s) checkin with AAU Tournament Officials prior to the start of the team s 1st game on the 2nd day of pool play. I. If a player is found to be ineligible prior to the start of the tournament, the player will be expelled from the tournament. If a player is found to be ineligible after the tournament has begun, not only will the player be expelled, but the team will also be expelled from the tournament and MAY be subject to further sanctions. Coaches are responsible to see that their team meets all eligibility requirements.
J. Team members do not have to physically play in the District Championship as long as they are otherwise eligible. Examples, but not limited to, include players who are out of town at the time of the District Championship or who are injured and unable to play at the time of the District Championship but who would be ready to play at the time of the National Championship. TEAM ELIGIBILITY Teams must comply with the following requirements: A. All teams must be registered as AAU Youth Clubs with their AAU District and comply with the regulations of the AAU Code. B. An AAU District made of complete and/or multiple states (such as the New England District) may choose to hold individual District Championships to qualify teams for National hampionships. The majority of players making up team rosters in these District Championships must be residents of that District. For example, in a qualifier held in the state of Massachusetts, a team with 14 players must include a minimum of eight (8) from Massachusetts. The remaining six (6) player could be from any other state within the New England District, or a maximum of three (3) could come from Districts that border the New England District. C. Foreign teams may apply to the AAU Baseball Executive Committee for participation in National Championships. D. District rosters may consist of no more than twenty (20) players. EXCEPTION: For the age group of 17U and 18/19U the maximum roster size will be 30. E. Teams may add or replace a maximum five (5) players to their rosters before the National Championship. Player(s) can be added to the National Championship roster even if the player(s) did not participate at the District Championship (pending the player(s) meets all eligibility requirements). F. Host Teams: Notwithstanding the qualification criteria, the local organizing committee hosting a National Championship is allowed to enter a team(s) provided that the team(s) meets all AAU requirements. [Note: In the case of the National Championships held at Disney s Wide World of Sports, the AAU National Office is considered the local organizing committee.] G. Any question pertaining to the eligibility of a team or individual at a National Championship shall be directed to the National Committee Representative assigned to the tournament. H. Teams MAY compete in more than one National Championship. A team CANNOT play in a Division one (1) National Championship and then participate in a Division two (2) National Championship in the same age group. A team MAY play in a Division two (2) National Championship and then participate in a Division one (1) National Championship in the same age group. NOTE: The exact format of the tournament, including number of pools and number of teams in each pool, and determination of divisions, will be set by the Tournament Director and National Baseball Executive Committee and will also depend on the number of entries and other extenuating circumstances. All decisions made by the National Baseball Committee shall be final.
