Marine Mammal Mitigation Systems

Seiche Measurements Limited (Seiche) designs and manufactures underwater sound measurement and marine mammal monitoring equipment for the oil and gas and renewables sectors. Seiche systems enable its customers to comply with environmental regulations that protect marine mammals from the effect of sound in the water. Seiche equipment is deployed worldwide.

Marine Mammal Mitigation Systems - Seiche Measurements Limited Passive Acoustic Monitoring Seiche is the market leader in the provision of passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) for the Oil and Gas and Renewables sector, supplying equipment to oil companies, seismic exploration contractors, service companies and research institutes. Seiche currently supplies a wide range of products for mitigation and measurement of noise in off shore applications. Some Seiche Clients Exploration BHP Billiton BP Capfish CGG Chevron EnBw Exxon Mobil Fugro Gardline Geomotive GeoGuide PGS RPS Group RWE Innogy Seabird Shell Tullow Oil Western Geco The company s success is based on the ability to supply and install kit that is fit for purpose at the right time and in the right place. The quality of equipment and service enables compliance with environmental regulations and minimizes the noise impact on marine mammals. We back up our technical capability with unparalleled service. Seiche has facilities in the UK and in Houston, USA. We are also able to provide in-location support using our partners in destinations around the world. Marine Mammal Mitigation Systems - Seiche Measurements Limited Applications Exploration Seismic survey PAM is becoming standard practice for marine mammal mitigation on seismic surveys vessels operating world-wide. The Seiche towed PAM system is the most trusted and deployed system for marine mammal mitigation. VSP The Seiche VSP system is light enough to be mobilised by helicopter and quick to set up and deploy, ideal for short seismic surveys which require a portable and effective system. Construction Pre-Construction site survey Often undertaken as a preliminary survey for potential off-shore construction sites. Using dedicated research and survey vessels and a team to monitor for birds and marine mammals the Seiche towed PAM system provides a ready solution. Construction Phase Pile driving operations require monitoring and mitigation for marine mammals. Typically this could consist of a towed system, vertically deployed hydrophone system or radio linked single or multiple buoy networks. Post Construction Phase Bespoke solutions for long term monitoring of underwater ambient noise can be provided, depending on the type of construction and environment to be monitored. Research Environmental Baseline surveys Seiche towed systems are used to complement visual surveys for marine mammal abundance. The systems can target individual species or use a wide band to encompass all marine mammals. Species Abundance surveys Pure research surveys for individual species can use bespoke Seiche PAM systems utilising either a towed array or remote radio linked buoy to target individual species and their peak emitted frequencies. Explosive Decommissioning and ordnance clearance The explosive can produce a huge amount of energy in the water requiring monitoring and mitigation for marine mammals during these operations. Buoyed or vertical array deployments can be used. Applications are for the mitigation of noise during seismic exploration, construction and research studies

Marine Mammal Mitigation Systems - Seiche Measurements Limited Products Towed Passive Acoustic Monitoring System The most extensively used Passive Acoustic Monitoring system worldwide. Arrays can be towed directly from the exploration vessel or from the seismic gun strings. The system uses standard ethernet cables on-board the vessel to allow monitoring at a convenient location on the vessel or remotely via a satellite link. All Seiche PAM systems utilize PAMGUARD monitoring software. Multi Vessel Mitigation Systems Developed for use with multiple vessel surveys with the prime aim of reducing the number of personnel required to run passive acoustic monitoring systems on a fleet of vessels operating in close proximity.a telemetry link transmits individual ships data to a central control and operator. One operator can monitor all the vessels in the fleet with only minimal support. VSP Hydrophone System Light enough to be mobilised by helicopter, and quick to set up, the VSP Hydrophone is a general underwater acoustic system for use around static sources, such as rigs or monitoring the underwater environment. The system gives a visual display of underwater noise using spectrogram, click, moan and whistle detectors and gives an audio output to headphones. Remote Buoy Acoustic Monitoring The system consists of buoy flotation unit, electronics, batteries, hydrophones and a transmitter and receiving unit. The buoy can operate as a single monitoring unit or as multiple units deployed around a sound source. This system enables wide band acoustic signals to be amplified and transmitted to a receiving station in real time where the acoustic signals are processed. Advanced Optical Transmission System A state of the art system for underwater acoustics research. Utilizing the latest high speed digital transmission techniques this system is a low noise wide bandwidth research tool with inbuilt depth and temperature sensors. Camera Monitoring Technology HD video based visual monitoring system with Real-time Automated Distance Estimation at Sea (RADES) and Thermal detection imaging. Data sheets are available for all products

Marine Mammal Mitigation Systems - Seiche Measurements Limited Services PAM Training Courses We are able to provide in house training to qualified MMOs and PAM operators in the specifics of our systems. The use of a trained operator is critical to the efficient operation of a survey. We also provide training for clients at their own facilities to improve understanding of the capabilities of Passive Acoustic Monitoring.
