CLUB HISTORY The Mendham Golf and Tennis Club began in 1958 when 15 residents of Mendham purchased approximately 75 acres of land on Kennaday Road and sought members for a family oriented golf and tennis facility. The property was owned by Mr. Sherwood Gay and when it was placed on the market, there were few interested purchasers. These 15 Mendham residents formed a corporation to buy the land, primarily to preserve the rural nature of the property. The February 8, 1958 Certificate of Incorporation states,... the subscribers hereby associate themselves into a corporation not for pecuniary profit... to encourage, develop and promote the enjoyment of golf, tennis and other such recreational pursuits... In 1959, the Club began construction of three Har Tru tennis courts and a swimming area in Gay s Pond. Mr. Alfred Tull, a nationally known golf course architect, was retained to design a nine hole golf course. Course construction began in 1960 for an agreed-upon contract price of $73,000. Construction continued on schedule and the Grand Opening of the first six holes was held on July 1, 1961. The remaining three holes were completed and ready for play in September of that year. As membership grew from the original 78 family members and golf play increased, it became apparent that an additional nine holes would be required to assure ongoing success. In 1964, the Club purchased approximately 56 acres from a 300-acre tract on both sides of Corey Lane and supplemented this with an additional 31 acres purchased from the Club s neighbors to complete the necessary land requirements. Construction of the new nine holes, also designed and supervised by Alfred Tull, began in 1967 and the holes were ready for play in 1969. During the summer of 1967, the Club s first clubhouse was built. Following a Mendham Golf and Tennis Club tradition of sweat equity, members volunteered the manpower to erect the building, which took several weeks to complete. The project was successful and the building was used as the Club s principal structure until it was replaced in 1991. The original clubhouse still serves as the tennis Field House. Building the current clubhouse was the largest project ever undertaken by the membership. Taking almost three years to design and construct, the building vastly improved the Club s social functions and golf activities. In 2010, a Clubhouse Renovation Project expanded and improved the Dining Room, patio, kitchen and storage areas. As a result of this work, the Club today provides a greater social outlet for members and guests. A Master Plan for the golf course was also developed under the guidance of architect Robert McNeil. Its ongoing implementation has received rave reviews and heightened the level of respect for our course within the New Jersey golf community. In many ways, MG&TC has changed dramatically during its 55 years of existence, but retains its informality, family and friends attitude, and unique culture. Most importantly, the Membership takes pride in the participative approach to Club management and operations, with almost one half the members participating in its various committees and activities at any one time.

A Valuable Investment Mendham Golf & Tennis Club Membership Membership at Mendham Golf & Tennis is designed to optimize the sporting and social participation of each member and family. Memberships are available for any combination of Golf, Tennis, and Platform Tennis. All memberships are family based with full privileges for the member s spouse and children ages 23 and under. Membership includes use of the dining room and access to all social events. The Membership Process Our sponsorship program ensures new members a full and rewarding Club experience. Sponsors are current members who: Application: Introduce candidates to the Club and help them meet other members. Provide guidance about Club policies. Assist in arranging games or attending social events. Each candidate will have one primary sponsor to coordinate the application package. Golf candidates need four additional members supporting (or seconding) the application. Tennis and / or Platform Tennis candidates only need two additional seconders. All sponsors and seconders are subject to certain eligibility requirements based on the membership selected. Membership Approval: When the candidate s application package is complete, the membership is notified and may submit comments about the applicant. Each applicant and spouse, along with one of their sponsors, is invited to meet with the Membership Committee before their application can be approved. Offer of Membership: Successful applicants receive a written offer of membership and have 30 days to respond. If a particular class of membership is filled, applicants are notified about their approval and told they have been added to a wait list for that membership category.

House Clubhouse Our main clubhouse was renovated in 2010 to expand dining capacity, improve kitchen functionality, and improve the opportunity for members to enjoy outdoor dining on the expanded patio while taking in one of the most attractive panoramic golf landscapes in the area. The work also paved the way for expansion of our practice putting green to frame the back view of the clubhouse. The clubhouse also features a full service and well stocked golf pro shop, men s and women s locker rooms and our administrative offices. Dining Casual lunch and dinner are served in the dining room and on the patios. Menu selections include appetizers, signature salads, freshly made soups, sandwiches, full entrees, and a special children s menu with healthy options. The club has a full service bar. Dining is available April through October, and the service is provided to the membership without the imposition of any minimum spending requirements. Tennis Fieldhouse The Adirondack style Tennis Fieldhouse has historical significance as the first MG & TC Clubhouse building. It provides an intimate setting for meeting and smaller social events. It contains a kitchen, small eating area, ping pong table and television. The basement is home to our tennis office and pro shop, as well as provides an alternate setting for meetings or small social gatherings. Social Events The House Committee sponsors social events for members and their children throughout the year.
