We are just one mile from Mansfield Crossing and one block from the Country Store. From Route 495 Take Exit 12 to Route 140 North toward Mansfield. Take your first left onto School Street. Who Are We? The Broad-Y Academy The Broad-Y Academy is our program for students aged 7-14. With several performance opportunities per year, ranging from musical theatre, to plays, to original playwrighting, to workshops and camps, our mission is to create theatre magic for students of all ability levels, and to instill a deep love for the arts that will last for the rest of their lives. Students will learn how to be part of a cast, and a community as they engage in the creation of productions, learning about dancing, singing, and acting along the way! The Theatre Institute The Theatre Institute is an intensive pre-professional training program for high school aged students, featuring a variety of classes, workshops, and full productions. Our mission is to provide high quality theatrical education, aimed particularly at students who want to develop and grow as young artists. Each year, students are given the opportunity to participate in the showcase class, featuring concentrated training in acting, movement, and singing techniques, as well as several productions. Our goal is to ensure that students are prepared for collegiate theatre at the completion of their time with us.
The Broad-Y Academy at the Hockomock Area YMCA The Brother s Grimm Spectaculathon The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are turned on their heads in this fast-paced, rollicking ride as two narrators and several actors attempt to combine all 209 stories ranging from classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel to more bizarre, obscure stories like The Devil's Grandmother and The Girl Without Hands. A wild, free-form comedy with lots of audience participation and madcap fun. Ages 10-14 Auditions: September 6th Rehearses: Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 Some Saturdays from 2:00 to 5:00 Performs: November 4th and 5th, 2017 The Little Mermaid Jr. Journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney's The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney's Broadway production and the motion picture. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home and her fins behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking. Willy Wonka KIDS! The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Willy Wonka KIDS follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory or suffer the consequences. Ages 7-10 Auditions: February 27th and March 6th, 2018 Rehearses: Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 Some Saturdays between 2:00 to 5:00 Performs: May 5th and 6th, 2018 You re a Good Man, Charlie Brown Charles Schulz s beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner s classic musical, You re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn t give her the time of day, perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus, Snoopy is in the doghouse, and blockhead, himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. Everyone s favorite Peanuts characters unite to show a Day in the Life from missing the bus, to sitting alone at lunch, to school projects, and man s best friend you will fall in love with these classic characters all over again. With favorites like Suppertime, Beethoven Day, and My New Philosophy, audiences are sure to be dancing in the aisles! Through musical theatre, students will explore the fundamentals of both singing solo and as part of an ensemble, they ll learn how to approach a character and bring it to life through acting games and exercises, and will learn a variety of dance and choreography styles. This class will culminate in a performance featuring a few of our favorite things songs from the shows most loved by our actors, chosen by them! Little Shop of Horrors A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world. The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!
