July 8, 2013, Week 10 Welcome! Coach s Corner I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend with friends and family. Woo-hoo Divisionals are this week! Amidst all the excitement, let s be sure everyone is getting enough sleep these next few days. I am so excited to see everyone's hard work pay off. And speaking of hard work, my Swimmer of the Week is Grace Gumpert. Grace has really been working hard on her breaststroke this week. Her diligence and hard work has not gone unnoticed. Congratulations Grace! ~Coach Jess It's the busiest two weeks of the season full of fun events and team activities Sadly, Coach is battling with bronchitis, so I hope I recover over the weekend... One week until Divisionals! Game on! And my Swimmer of the Week is Hampton Wade. Hampton is always early to the meets helping set everything up as well as putting everything away. He's also been a good team leader and was on his feet cheering the whole time at our last meet. Congratulations Hampton! Happy swimming ~Coach Gene Iron Man/Iron Chick I am pleased to announce that we have 59 swimmers who achieved Iron status! Congratulations to all our Iron Men ad Iron Chicks! If your child qualified for Championships and/or Classics, you will find out at this event. Bring your checkbook so you can order a C&C t-shirt - And don t forget to be thinking about what to put on it! Divisionals; Seriously Putting on a Divisional Meet is a huge undertaking. It is very possible that we will be hosting next year, so please take note of all the activities going on around the Divisionals, and what we will be responsible for coordinating, should we in fact be the next host. Here are some of the details that still need to be taken care of We are in need of a generator. Does anyone have a generator or know someone with a generator that we can use during the divisional meet and at C&C? We would appreciate borrowing it, and the Team will pay for the gas used. We need it by Friday afternoon. We also need someone with a pick-up truck to bring the team fan to Spalding Farm. We will use the generator at Divisionals and again at C&C on July 20 & 21. It can be returned the evening of July 21 or during the day of July 22. Thank you so much! Volunteering - One of the areas of delicate coordination is the volunteer sign up. If your child is swimming at Divisionals, a parent from your family is expected to volunteer at that meet even if you have never volunteered at a HTCC swim meet. Every family must help to put on the Divisional swim meet. You all received the volunteer chart a while ago, but I will attach it again with this email (or perhaps a follow up email). These volunteer charts will be posted on the bulletin board at the pool so you can easily check them. Our volunteer names/positions have
already been submitted to the Divisional Volunteer coordinator, so if you don t like what you have been assigned to do, check the chart and find another person to switch with, then let Linda know what you have switched to so she can change the chart. As our Team Director/SAIL Rep, Linda will float during the meet seeing to anyone who needs a break, or has a young child that needs a parent, so she can step in and do their job for a short time. In addition to the already assigned volunteers, Spaulding Farm has asked for another person to work Stroke & Turn on Saturday; 1st half, as well as a Dual Confirm/DQ Recorder on Saturday, 2nd half. If you are willing to fill one of these positions, please email lvyoung@mmzero.com. As an FYI If your child continues on to the Championships & Classics meet, you may be asked to volunteer again, as we will have several positions to fill there too. Team tent we need a few Dads to take down our team tent on Wednesday night and put it up Thursday evening at Spalding Farms. If you are interested in helping with this, please let me know and I will coordinate a meeting time that will work for everyone. We need at least 3 people, and a transport vehicle. (We will also be needing 2-3 dads to go put up tents at Westside on the Friday night before C&C.) Heat sheet cover contest Entries for this contest are due to me by morning practice on Tuesday, July 9 th. Please submit on 8.5 x 11 paper in black ink only no colors. Either all team names/initials must be included or none. It must include White Division 2013. No computer generated art. The swimmer's name and team name should be listed on the BACK of the entry in pencil. The winner will be awarded $25! Divisional ads - We will also be selling ads in the Divisional Heat Sheet that will be seen by the families of 400+ swimmers! So start thinking about who you can sell those ads to. All money earned in ad sales goes directly back to the team! Many parents buy a good luck/swim hard ad for their kids or grandkids. This may be a good way for the grandparents to support our team too! Please email your ad to me in a pdf file by Tuesday, July 9 th at noon. The prices are: Full page - $100, ½ page (horizontal or vertical) - $50, and ¼ page - $25 Divisional Parade - Immediately preceding the start of the meet, a themed parade will take place around the pool. Each team has its own theme. Duck Dynasty has been suggested as a possible theme this year. If you don t know what this is or don t like it, you can just have your child wear their iswim shirt instead. If you have another idea, please feel free to submit it. The kids can decide at practice on Monday. Championships & Classics This meet is for the top 40 swimmers in each event at Divisionals and will be held a week later, July 20 &21 at the Westside Aquatic Center. C&C qualifiers will be announced at the End of Season Banquet next Sunday. The top 16 will compete in Classics on Sunday, and those ranked 17-40 will compete at Championships on Saturday. It s a very exciting meet! More information on C&C practices and activities will be coming soon. Please be sure your swimmer is able to swim in C&C if you confirmed it because.a swimmer who is a late scratch at either the Championship or Classic meets for other than a valid reason, as determined by the sole discretion of the C&C Meet Director (physical, death in the family, etc.), will be fined $50.00 per
individual event and $100.00 per relay event payable to the League. Scratches reported prior to Championships and Classics meets being finalized will be fined $25.00 for any event. The meet will be finalized at 10 am on the Wednesday following Divisionals. Meet photos Art Young has posted his Team and meet photos on our website, www.htccswim.com. Check them out! If you would like to order the Team picture, it will be for sale at the End of Season Banquet. Art will bring samples that you can order from, and pay for there. This is a fund-raiser for the team, so the photos are priced at $5 for the 5x7, and $7 for the 8x10. Photo orders can be picked up at the C&C Banquet on July 21. Thanks, Art! Initials, Inc.
