This is the first step into a new and beautiful world. Our Professional dive team here at ROHO are on hand to help you, using our 150 years combined experience we will be your window into the underwater world of diving. We will be on hand to advise you on equipment selection, the type of diving that interests you the most and where the best places are to do it. As well as offering a full range of courses we also run many diving trips each year to sites like the Farnes Islands, where you can dive and play with the Grey Seals. Further north the Isle of Cumbrae and Lochaline. Join the Anglesey festival in Wales or go diving with the Basking Sharks off the Cornish coast at Porthkerris. Alternatively you might prefer the warm waters of the Egyptian Red Sea on one of our annual Liveaboards. Lanzarote long weekends, the wrecks of Malta and Sharm El Sheikh are also available throughout the year. If you re looking for more exotic places we offer trips to the Maldives where you can dive with Mantas and Whale Sharks. South Africa offers world class shark encounters. Fiji and the Philippines are all on our list. Welcome to your dive course here at ROHO We know you will enjoy the experience and will find that your first dip into diving will open a whole range of pleasure and experience Our PADI 5 star IDC Centre began in 1981 at Robin Hood Cottage by Bob & Barbara, today our facilities are the best in the country All our theory and pool sessions are completed on site. Our classroom facilities provide everything you need to complete all aspects of your course theory along with an HD projector and 80 Inch Screen. Our pool sessions are completed in our onsite heated swimming pool. This ensures you are as comfortable as possible during your skills training whether this is your first time underwater or an experienced diver. All our equipment is Aqualung with both mens and womens BCD s and is fully serviced and maintained by our onsite technicians. Our full range of ROHO drysuits will ensure you are nice and warm during all your dives. The course pack you download will provide you with a copy of the PADI digital manual as well as the Touch system to guide you through your home study. Students doing the open water course will also receive a free dive binder and logbook to record their course progress and log their dives. Please read through the dive medical at the end, if you answer yes to any of the questions you will be required to see a dive doctor prior to starting your course. OPEN WATER COURSE OUTLINE THEORY Once you have registered with us we will send you an email with the link to follow so you can access and download your training materials. If you do not receive this email within 24hrs please call the shop 01924 444 888 or email diveschool@roho.co.uk. Once you have downloaded the material you can start to work your way through the PADI Touch in your own time. Please remember to logon online after each section so your progress can be updated and we can monitor your progress from the shop. After you have finished all the sections you are ready for your exam. However if you are struggling with a particular section you can call/visit the shop and discuss it with one of our full time instructors. Once you have finished the exam you are ready for your Thursday evening session PHOTOGRAPH Please e-mail a copy of your photograph to diveschool@roho.co.uk with your name as the subject. Failure to send us your picture will delay your certification process THURSDAY SESSION Once you have completed your theory we need you to join us at the shop one Thursday evening between 5.30/6pm to 8pm. If you didn t book your Thursday session when you signed up, you can call the shop on 01924 444 888 to arrange this. The Thursday evening basically gives you the opportunity to go over anything you were struggling with, with an instructor and complete some quick review questions. You will also go through some basic equipment in the shop that you will be using during the water sessions POOL SESSIONS Once all the theory is complete its time to move onto the fun stuff and get wet. If you haven t already arranged your Saturday pool session, then you can call the shop on 01924 444 888 to arrange this. For the pool day you will need to bring the following: SWIMMING GEAR TOWEL MASK AND SNORKEL (if you don t already own these we will supply them) PACKED LUNCH You need to be at Robin Hood Watersports for 9.15am and depending on how you get on in the pool should be finished around 5pm At this stage you need to let your instructor know if you would like to do your Dry suit specialty add-on so they can issue you with the dry suit manual. The add-on course is an additional 75 and includes 1 extra dive on your open water weekend. You will also need to book your drysuit orientation evening WEDNESDAY DRYSUIT ORRIENTATION The Wednesday evening before your open water weekend you will be required to come down to the shop to be sized up for your drysuit and given an in water orientation ready for the weekend. You will need your swim gear and towel too. OPENWATER WEEKEND Now your Theory and pool work is complete, you are ready for your weekend away. Equipment: We supply all the equipment and materials required to complete your course. We do however strongly recommend you buy your own mask and snorkel for the course as this is the most personal fitting piece of equipment and we cannot guarantee our rental masks will fit everyone s faces comfortably. General Information: The Open Water Weekend will be held at Capernwray: Capernwray Over Kellet Rd Carnforth Lancashire LA6 1AD We will give you more detailed information during your course. We strongly advise you stay locally to the site on the Saturday night. This is not included in the cost of the course so you will have to arrange this yourself. Our dive team will be staying at the Truckhaven, which offers good clean accomodation at reasonable price and is a short walk to Pine Lakes where we meet for evening meal and banter on the Saturday night: Cancellation Policy: Truckhaven Scotland Road Carnforth Lancashire LA5 9RQ www.truckhavencarnforth.co.uk Tel: 01524 736 699 Cancellation of any course within 14 days of scheduled start date will incur loss of deposit unless accompanied by a doctor s confirmation of inability to dive due to a recent illness or incapacity. A request to transfer to a different course date must be notified at least 14 days prior to scheduled course start date otherwise this will incur a fee of 50 to reschedule the instructor. Non attendance at scheduled start date will incur a 100 re-booking fee or loss of deposit. We recognise that there might be other reasons for cancelling or re-scheduling courses therefore we reserve the right to either apply the above waiver at our discretion. OPEN WATER WEEKEND GUIDELINES You will complete your Open Water Course at Capernwray, the UK s no 1 underwater theme park. Capernwray is an inland purpose built dive site located in Carnforth, approximately 1 hour 30 min s drive from Roho. We will meet at Truckhaven LA5 9RQ, which is located off Junction 35 M6 Northbound on the Saturday morning for breakfast at 07.45. We will leave Truckhaven at 08:25, in convoy to the site, which is 5 min away. Before we leave you will be given an entry voucher for the site. On arrival at Capernwray hand your voucher over, you will then be given a temporary membership ticket at a cost of 5 (please have the correct change with you). Please park close to the dive van and assemble at the rear of vehicle for a briefing. You will be divided into teams and given a site orientation by your divemaster. Please remember to take your diving equipment with you and your own personnel items such as warm clothing. You will be responsible for your own diving equipment until you return it to Roho. Changing facilities are available on site as are showers and a café. The day s activities are not complete until you have been fully debriefed and all diving activities correctly logged. Please do not plan to leave site independently prior to debrief, as this is an integral part of your course. We normally complete all formalities by 5:00 pm. We do suggest you stay overnight near to Carnforth as you need to be back at Capernwary for 08.30 on Sunday. Divers Medical Questionnaire To the Participant: The purpose of this Medical Questionnaire is to find out if you should be examined by your doctor before participating in recreational diver training. A positive response to a question does not necessarily disqualify you from diving. A positive response means that there is a preexisting condition that may affect your safety while diving and you must seek the advice of your physician prior to engaging in dive activities. Please answer the following questions on your past or present medical history with a YES or NO. If you are not sure, answer YES. If any of these items apply to you, we must request that you consult with a physician prior to participating in scuba diving. Your instructor will supply you with an RSTC Medical Statement and Guidelines for Recreational Scuba Diver s Physical Examination to take to your physician. -------- Could you be pregnant, or are you attempting to become pregnant? Are you presently taking prescription medications? (with the exception of birth control or anti-malarial) Are you over 45 years of age and can answer YES to one or more of the following? currently smoke a pipe, cigars or cigarettes are currently receiving medical care have a high cholesterol level high blood pressure have a family history of heart attack or stroke diabetes mellitus, even if controlled by diet alone Have you ever had or do you currently have Asthma, or wheezing with breathing, or wheezing with exercise? Frequent or severe attacks of hayfever or allergy? Frequent colds, sinusitis or bronchitis? Any form of lung disease? Pneumothorax (collapsed lung)? Other chest disease or chest surgery? Behavioral health, mental or psychological problems (Panic attack, fear of closed or openspaces)? Epilepsy, seizures, convulsions or take medications to prevent them? Recurring complicated migraine headaches or take medications to prevent them? Blackouts or fainting (full/partial loss of consciousness)?
