Randy and Kim Sweers are better known as the marine industry s power couple. Together they own and operate one of South Florida s largest boat dealerships A business once started by Randy in1994 has grown into a family owned and operated empire that has evolved from a small brokerage firm into a full service marine operation with three locations in Pompano Beach, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale. The company is expecting to open their forth location in 2017. At its inception, Sweers company strictly sold offshore performance boats and as their client s boating needs changed over the years so has their company s business model. Today, they offer a much larger portfolio of products including yachts, cruisers, and fishing boats and offer a full array of marine parts and repair services, and wet and dry storage. To reflect their company s diversity, the Sweers changed the name of their company in 2016 to FB Marine Group from FastBoats Marine Group. Randy was born in Barrie, Ontario and was raised in Pompano Beach, Florida. After receiving his MBA from the University of Toronto, he returned to South Florida to a banking position but he was, as the cliché goes, a fish out of water. Boating and racing were always his passion which lead him to his first job in the boat business at Champion Marine in Miami. A few years later, he resigned to seek self-employment and started his own boat dealership which he still owns today. Kim was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida. She attended Archbishop Curley High School in Miami and received her undergraduate degree from Florida International University majoring in Business Administration. Her roles at FB Marine Group include all day to day operations and acts as the company s CFO/COO. Prior to joining the family business in 2001, Kim was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for an international data service provider with 30 offices throughout South America and Miami. Randy and Kim pride themselves on their involvement in the community. In 2013, they joined forces with AutoNation to bring national attention to the importance of early detection and helped raise much needed funds to find a cure. Both Kim s father and Randy s mother both died of advanced staged cancer and in their memory, the Sweers family used their company s world class offshore race boat as a platform for Indy Car Driver, Ryan Hunter-Raey s charity, Racing For Cancer. It traveled around the world, as far away as Dubai, racing on the Super Boat International circuit while promoting the war against cancer. In a strange twist of fate, cancer struck their family again when Kim herself was diagnosed with breast cancer and Randy s father Keith, was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer in the same year. Due to early detection and the advancements in cancer research both are in remission today! Community involvement is a family affair in the Sweers household. Kim and Randy have carried their philanthropic beliefs to the next generation. Their eleven year old son Chase and his best friends, twins Cole and Chase Hanaka, who have known each other since infancy, decided to dream big by founding an organization that would help others. The decision to create C3 For Change in 2014 came after all three boys lives had been affected by cancer. With loved one after loved one being diagnosed with the deadly disease, the boys decided it was time to change how our local community talks about cancer. C3 For Change aims to assist hospitals nationwide and the communities they serve by stressing the importance of education and early detection as a cure for cancer. 100% of the funds raised by C3 For Change are donated back to the community to promote education, cancer screenings, research, treatment and support services.
