Dear Parents, Important Dates Red Ribbon Week - Be 100% Drug Free Monday, October 24, 2016: Wear Red Tuesday, October 25, 2016: Wear sports shirt or jersey Safety Presentations and Pumpkin Night Wednesday, October 26, 2016: Wear shirt backwards, Safety Presentations & Hot Lunch Thursday, October 27, 2016: Wear neon colors and sunglasses Friday, October 28, 2016: Wear a lei and/or hawaiian clothes Red Ribbon Week: Erickson Elementary School will have a Spirit Week next week in honor of Red Ribbon Week and our commitment to stay DRUG FREE (Please refer to the attached flyer). Safety Presentations: Officer Odoi from the Bloomingdale Police Department will be at Erickson on Tuesday and Wednesday to provide safety talks to all grade levels. Officer Odoi will provide safety tips on a variety of topics. Please have a conversation with your child about safety tips when at home or playing outside in the neighborhood. Pumpkin Night: Family Pumpkin Night will take place on Tuesday. Students will decorate a pumpkin and write a short story about the pumpkin. Pictures will be taken and posted around the school. Halloween Parade & Party: On Monday, October 31st, the Halloween Parade will begin at 1:30 pm. Students will parade through the various classrooms and travel outside the building for parents & family to view. If the weather does not cooperate, parents & family members will be invited into the gym to experience the Halloween Parade. Room parties will immediately follow the Halloween Parade. Students that wish to leave school prior to the start of the lunch period to dress, should notify the office in writing (see attached dismissal form). There will be a change in the lunch period: 12:30 pm 1:20 pm. Trick or Treat Safety Tips: STAY on the sidewalk, ONLY eat candy that has been inspected by an adult, Throw away any unwrapped candy, Travel with a group, Wear a reflecting item on your costume so cars can see you, Observe the Trick-Or-Treating hours, Have a hauntingly good time!

Socktober A National Sole Warming Movement Grades EC-2 and Grades 3-5 will compete against each other by donating new pairs of socks. The grade level with the most pairs of socks will earn a sock hop in the gym during recess. All donated socks will make a huge difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless.

Parent/Teacher Conferences Erickson Elementary November 21 st & 22 nd Visit the Erickson Elementary School Website to schedule parent teacher conferences. Parents will have the opportunity to conference with the classroom teacher. The PTC Wizard will be available on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 9:00 pm. Tuesday, October 25 th from 5:30 7:30pm Come join us for a night full of fun for the whole family! We will have a pumpkin patch for you to pick your new pumpkin friend, and then you will be decorating and writing a short story about him/her. Pictures will be taken with your new friend then posted all over the school. We will also have digging for prizes and apple decorating! $10.00 includes a pumpkin, one round of digging for prizes and a caramel apple to decorate and bring home! If the other family members would like to join in the decorating experience please list them below. There will be food and drinks available for purchase. Please complete the bottom portion of the form then send it back to school (cash or checks made payable to Erickson PTO) by Wednesday October 19 th. Halloween Parade & Room Party Parents may pick up their children to dress for the parade 12:15 pm: Dismissal for students to change at home (permission slip must be returned). Any student attending Erickson Elementary School is able to participate in this event. All family members are welcome to attend the parade at approximately 1:30 pm (the parade route will travel outside the building). Due to safety & security, the number of parents able to attend the classroom party will be limited to six (6) individuals. If you are interested in volunteering for the Halloween Room Party, please contact the head room parent for your child s classroom (see list below).
