Enrollment for new and re-enrollment for current MOVErs begins now and continues until May 1 (please make sure to register by May 1 so you can participate in the competition!). As you know, MOVE promotes physical activity and encourages youths to engage in a broad range of activities such as walking, biking, running, swimming, dance, taekwondo, gardening and more. Here s what youth and adults need to do to participate: Enroll in the Move Across Missouri (MOVE) project (HF775) in 4HOnline in their profile. Enrollment in 4-H MOVE does not count as a part of county limits on projects. Using a paper tracking system found on the 4-H website at: http://4h.missouri.edu/4hmove/moveinfo, youth and their families can log the number of minutes they accumulate throughout the year and during the competitive component of the MOVE program (scroll to the bottom of the website page and click My Move Activity Log ). Youth and families will submit their total number of minutes logged and activities (basketball, running, chores, etc.) throughout the 12 week competitive period between May 1-15 in 4HOnline. 4-H Equine Tour Cowboy Up! The 2017 Equine 4-H tour, May 22-28, is headed to Oklahoma and Texas exploring the western equine world for teens dreaming of an equine related career or aspiring to learn more about the horse world. Each year s tour has a unique itinerary to help youth explore the diverse equine industry indigenous to the destinations. The 2017 will have a focus on the western performance and rodeo industry with visits to leading medical facilities, tours of top performance quarter horse ranches including the Lazy E, the Remington Horse Racing Track, the Cowboy Hall of Fame, and Fort Worth Stockyards. Visits to higher education institutions such as Northeastern Oklahoma College, Oklahoma State University, will be included with additional opportunities to meet nationally recognized leaders and trainers in the western equine industry. Nicole Bricker, Equine Tour Alum and second year MU Veterinary School student, reflected upon her experiences: I really enjoyed going on the equine tour each year to learn about the horse industry across the state of Missouri as well as several other Midwestern states. The trips are a fun and exciting way to learn more about the horse industry, the many different disciplines, and equine business sectors. The MO 4-H Equine trip was one of my absolute favorite state level activities. Ashley Bauer, 2013 Missouri State Fair Queen, Graduate Student Equine Studies William Woods University and 4-H Equine Tour Alum summarized her feelings about the tour s value: The 4-H Equine Tour opened my eyes to all that the equestrian industry truly has to offer. Not only did I make lifelong friends, I made connections throughout the nation with potential employers and experienced various equestrian opportunities. The $600 tour fee includes charter bus transportation, tours, hotels, most meals, tour t-shirt, travel bag and other associated costs.
