The Utopin environment Brynt presents to the world would not pper to be conducive to the sin nd corruption of the big city, nd it isn't. Fr from being utopi, Brynt still mintins reitively trnquil tmosphere, without the fers nd dngers present on mny c,!mpuses. n n interview with Bob Grdner, Director of Security, 1 HE ARCHWAY investigted vrious reports nd rumors concerning the nture ofcmpus crime t Brynt. n one cse, security gurd voiced specific complints regrding the vndlism on the cmpus. The gurd sid tht much goes on within the Brynt cmpus which goes unreported. Mny students hve expressed their regrd for the security force, in recent times ' nd historiclly, concerningby Steven Sellers their supposed lck of effectiveness. Grdner told THE ARCH WAY tht Brynt hs lo tremendously serious problem with crime. He sid tht incidents of prnks nd limited vndlism occur like clockwork with the spring seson. He expressed, with sense of relief, tht Brynt does not possess the mjor crime problems mny colleges suffer in the immedite res. When questioned bout the most serious crimes on cmpus, if ny, he speculted tht dorm thefts nd prking lot vndlism re the most troublesome. He mentioned the plight of one girl on cmpus who hd hd her cr dmged by group of individuls lifting nd moving smll crs in the prking lot. Preventing such incidents, he sid, ws question of "being -. in the right plce t the right time." He dded tht the security force does not hve ny police powers other thn tht of citizen's rrest. The tsk of mintining order on cmpus nd bering the brunt of student criticism he sid "come with the job." Grdner did comment tht he fet Brynt students were "excellent'" in terms of their behvior, the proverbil two percent cusing the trouble. He did dmit certin degree of bitterness mong his gurds s result of the low opinion mny students feel for the security force. He stted tht he "'tught nd preched'" professionlism nd courtesy in the force' hndling of student problems. The problem is one of uthority, he sid. Pge 2 THE ARCHWAY April 29, 1977 During the lst couple of weeks, hve hd the chnce to tke prt in n interesting experience tht, in my opinion, wrrnts communiction to the student body. There is lesson to be lerned 1T0m this experience; lesson tht pplies to everydy life nd how we Qet so involved with personl issues, politicl gmes nd petty problems. We often lose sight of wht our objectives re. The issue [ refer to occurred when Brynt hosted the Tourney of Young Tycoons progrm lst April 19., in n elborte disply of humn error, completely forgot bout the progrm nd filed to check if nyone ws covering the ffir. n the erly evening while working on personl projects received telephone cll from Ms. Jordn who suggested tht run over n'd quickly photogrph the event while she would keep the members t by. ED'S ALMANAC by Ed Ksinsks Well, New Englnd certinly got the rin it so despertely needed over the weekend. Hve you ever wondered how much wter is in one inch of rin'? One inch of rin over one cre of ground equls 3,630 cubic feet (6,272,640 cubic inches) of wter. One cubic foot of wter weights pproximtely 62.4 pounds. Therefore, one inch of rin over one cre weighs 226,512 pounds or 113.25 short tons. There re 27,154 gllons ofwter in this mount. Now multiply ll these figures by 220, the number of cres of the Brynt cmpus, nd you cn see tht one inch of rin is lot of wter! Over the pst yer, tempertures hve been given in both Fhrenheit nd Celsius or centigrde. To convert one to the other: (F-32)5/ 9 =C F=9Cj5+32 The conversion process S very esy.
