The Vernon District Riding Club Dressage Show 2016 is sanctioned as a GOLD and BRONZE competition member of Equine Canada, 308 Legget Drive, Suite 100, Ottawa, Ontario, K2K 1Y6 and is governed by the rules of EC. Every class offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current rules of EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the EC Rule Book. Exhibitors are responsible for knowledge of the rules. Per Article A801, every entry at an EC-sanctioned competition shall constitute an agreement by the person responsible that the owner, lessee, trainer, manager, agent, coach, driver or rider and horse shall be subject to the EC constitution and all rules of EC and any additional rules set by the competition. It is the responsibility of all individuals participating in any capacity in EC-sanctioned competitions to be knowledgeable regarding the EC constitution and the applicable rules of EC and the additional rules, if any, imposed by the competition. Do not participate in this EC- sanctioned competition in any capacity if you do not consent to be bound by the constitution and rules of EC and any additional rules imposed by the competition. STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES Equine Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to the humane treatment of horses in all activities under its jurisdiction. All persons shall be committed to upholding the welfare of horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect, and compassion, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; ensuring that all Equestrians including owners, trainers and competitors, or their respective agents, use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their own horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort, sanitation and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; providing current information on Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Equines and other equine health and welfare initiatives; continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; requiring owners, trainers and competitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization's rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competitions, and; actively promoting the development of and adherence to competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of the horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person who is informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and competition procedures would determine to be neither cruel, abusive, nor inhumane. DRESSAGE BRONZE/GOLD SHOW JULY 8th Test Practice Day JULY 9th & 10 th Open Show Come Ride with Us LOCATION: Vernon District Riding Club, 8408 Aberdeen Rd., Coldstream BC JUDGE: Joan Macartney Joan Macartney is a Senior dressage judge with Equine Canada and the USEF. She is also certified as a Young Horse Judge as well as equitation judge. Joan s judging experience includes a number of years as a FEI 4* judge where she officiated at a number of CDI s and national-level competitions. Highlights include the North American Junior/Young Riders Championships, the Nations Cup in Florida, and various championships through the Americas as well as the Australian Dressage Championships. Her riding and competition experience has provided Joan with a true appreciation of the challenges in presenting a harmonious ride and achieving success in the competition arena. TEST PRACTICE COACH: Danielle Hirkala Danielle Hirkala is an EC Level 1 Dressage Coach. She is well known in the Okanagan and has many students in this area. Danielle is currently riding at the Intermediate Level on her mare Cleo. Danielle will help riders confirm that extra bit of polish and confidence needed before the show days. RIDE TIMES: Scheduled ride times will be available at Fox Village Dressage web site by Tuesday, July 5th, 2016. Find the show under http://www.foxvillage.com/fvdshowresults. Scheduled ride times will be emailed by July 5 to those providing an email address. SHOW OFFICE: The show office is located in the Club House and will be open at 7:00 am Saturday and Sunday. SCHEDULE: Rides will begin at 8:00 am each day in Ring 2. There will be an approximately 1 hour break around noon each day. The warm-up rings will be open at 7:00 am. No warm-up is allowed in the show ring. Ring 1 will be available for use Thursday and Friday. FASHION & FREESTYLE SOCIAL will include the lead-line class and the Freestyles. There will be a Fashionable Surprise. This event is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm (start time dependent upon day s entries). SCHEDULED AND OFFICIAL RIDE TIMES: While the show will make every effort to adhere to the ride times published on Fox Village Dressage, short notice changes may occur. It is the responsibility of the participant to check the Day Sheets for any ride time changes. The Day Sheets will be posted in front window of Club House. LICENSE AND MEMBERSHIP: 2016 Bronze or Gold EC Sport licences are required by competitors, owners or lessees, and individuals accepting responsibility for entries in an EC sanctioned competition. Passports, 2016 Horse Licences & Dressage Canada affiliation are required for the Gold competition A current Amateur EC card is required to be eligible for amateur awards Horse Council B.C./or Provincial equivalent or/ USEF required Temporary licenses, Bronze licenses and upgrades may be purchased with entry (Refer to the current EC schedule of fees) Horses without valid passport (Gold)must provide a completed temporary horse registration form and pay the $45.00 fee. DEFINITIONS & ELIGIBILITY: Adults: Individuals are adults, or seniors, from the beginning of the calendar year in which they reach the age of 19. Amateurs: Adults eligible to compete in EC Amateur Classes as per EC Article A902. A person competing in EC amateur classes must hold a valid EC Sport Licence and have a current Amateur card. FEI Age Limitations: See Article E3.4.4 FEI Age Limitations Juniors: Individuals are Juniors until the end of the calendar year in which they turn 18. Juniors are not eligible to compete in the amateur category. Person Responsible: The Person Responsible (PR) for a horse must be an adult who has or shares responsibility for the care, training, custody and performance of the horse, and who has official responsibility for that horse under EC Rules. The PR is liable under penalty provisions of the applicable EC Rules for any rule violations. Every entry form for an EC sanctioned competition must identify the PR and be signed by the PR. This definition was updated April 2016 Person Responsible Rule. The Person Responsible must hold an EC Sport License (see A801.6). Ponies: A pony is a small horse whose height at the withers, having been measured on a smooth level surface, does not exceed 148 cm without shoes or 149cm with shoes. FREESTYLES: All freestyles will follow the Division Classes on Saturday and be part of the Fashion & Freestyle Social. NOTE: Costumed Freestyle will be a separate class from the Gold and Bronze Freestyle classes. This class is considered a miscellaneous class under EC rules, not eligible for EC awards. Western riders are welcome in this class, costumed or not. Please provide your own music to the Show Secretary upon registration. CD format only. It is highly suggested that two CDs are submitted. CDs must be labelled with the competitor s name, horse s name, class # and any instructions (e.g. wave to start music). Times for sound checks will be posted at the show office; expected to be Friday evening and/or Saturday lunch break. VDRC Dressage Show 2016 Page 6 of 17

Freestyle Eligibility: Freestyle eligibility for riders in Gold competitions (all EC levels and FEI freestyle levels): A horse/rider combination must have obtained the following prior to competing in a freestyle: a minimum score of 55% in a dressage test at the same technical level, or higher, as the freestyle they wish to enter. The dressage score may have been obtained at an EC Gold/Silver dressage competition prior to the competition, or may be obtained at the same competition in which they wish to enter the freestyle. Technical scores earned at Silver competitions count toward entering freestyle in a Gold competition and vice versa. Bronze competitions require no minimum technical score. Furthermore, a rider in a Bronze competition may enter a freestyle without having ridden the technical test at the level of freestyle entered (e.g. competes in first level technical and second level freestyle). WESTERN DRESSAGE: We welcome entries in the Western Dressage Division. Ride the test you wish from Western Dressage Association, HCBC, Western Style Dressage Association of Canada or any other organization. The classes have been set to reflect similar levels from various test sources. The Show Committee reserves the right to alter or combine the classes, dependent upon the tests requested. Please submit a copy of the test you wish to ride with your entries and list the name and source on the entry form. These classes are considered miscellaneous classes under EC rules, not eligible for EC awards. EQUITATION MEDAL and PONY CLUB CHALLENGE DIVISION: Non-EC Competition: Equitation #1, rider 13 yrs of age and under: for riders competing in an Equitation Class and Training Level Test 2. Equitation #1, rider 14 to 18 years: for riders competing in an Equitation Class and First Level Test 2. Bronze Licences or Pony Club Membership required; no passports required, no Dressage Canada affiliation required. Riders to be judged at the walk, working trot (rising & sitting) and working canter; maximum 8 horses to work at the same time (maximum of 4 horses to canter at same time if in dressage arena). The EC Dressage Seat Medal Class score sheet will be used for Equitation. Scores from the Equitation will be added rider s highest test score, at the required level, to determine final placings. Rider s scores and placings will be determined by averaging the total scores from each judge. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals will be awarded. These classes are considered miscellaneous classes under EC rules, not eligible for EC awards. VDRC Dressage Show 2016 Page 7 of 17

LEAD LINE SPECIAL WALK TROT LEAD LINE DIVISION rider 8 years and under: Horse/Rider combination must be led by a responsible adult. To be held at beginning of Freestyle and Fashion Social Saturday afternoon approximately 3:30 pm. These classes are considered miscellaneous classes under EC rules, not eligible for EC awards. SHOW PRIZES Rosettes: Rosettes to sixth place will be awarded at the completion of every class. Scoring: Points awarded by the judges are final. Where there is only one rider in a class, percentages will be applied as follows: 1st place 60%or higher; 2nd 57% 59.99%; 3rd 54 56.99%; 4th 51% 53.99%. Class Scores will be posted on the windows of the club house when the class is complete and scores are ready for posting. Test and Rosettes Acceptance Location: Tests and rosettes/awards may be picked up at the designated prize area in the club house upon completion of each class/level and posting of the results. Presentations for Championships and Special Awards: Awards listed below will be presented on Sunday, with the exception of the Freestyle on Saturday, at the completion of the class and the posting of the results. Riders should be prepared to present themselves in show attire, unmounted, at the on-deck area for award presentation and pictures. Pictures may include the horse mounted, or not, at the show s discretion. The Show Committee may select photo opportunities depending on time. The Show Committee reserves the right to alter or combine any awards. Please remember that the awards are available due to the generosity of our sponsors. Gold and Bronze Division and Category Championships Divisions A Championship will be presented in both the Bronze and Gold competitions for each Division and Category with 3 or more entries. In Levels with less than 3 riders the Show Committee reserves the right to alter or combine the Championships presented. The Champion will be determined by the highest combined technical scores of the 2 designated classes at each level. The classes are Test 2 on Saturday and Test 3 on Sunday at each level. These class names and numbers are labelled with a C in the CLASSES OFFERED. VDRC Dressage Show 2016 Page 8 of 17

FEI FEI Champion will be determined by the highest 2 combined technical scores earned over two days of any FEI classes including Para. Western Dressage Western Dressage Champion will be determined by the highest 2 combined technical scores earned over two days of any Western Dressage classes. Freestyle High Score Freestyle will be awarded to the highest freestyle score in either of the Bronze and Gold competitions. For all of above: Any horse receiving less than 50% on a technical test will not receive an award as per Art. E 9.10.7. In the event of a tie, the rider with the highest single percentage score is declared the winner. TOC and Freestyle classes do not qualify. SPECIAL AWARDS: Ride of The Day: The Ride of the Day on each of Saturday and Sunday will be chosen by the Judge. $100.00 will be sponsored by the Okanagan CADORA Group and CADORA, Inc. Ride of the day will also receive Auditor's passes for Stephen Clarke's Symposium in Victoria, September 24th and 25, 2016. Harry s Cup: Pony Hi Test Award $50.00 sponsored by The Regehr Family Most Sportsmanlike Award: To be determined by suggestions from the riders and show workers. Ballot Box in Club house Best Turnout Award: To be determined by the judges and secret panel DRESSAGE BC AWARDS: Dressage BC Adult Amateur Awards Program 2016 are for Adult Amateurs riding Training though Fourth Level, no application or entry fee required. Score requirements: three scores in Test 3 of the Level, from two different judges (M status or above), from 3 different recognized EC Gold competitions in BC, average score of 60% or higher to qualify. Full details at www.dressagebc.ca. COMPETITION EIGHT AWARD: GOLD test riders receiving an 8 for rider will be awarded a cash prize of $40.00. GENERAL SHOW INFORMATION: THE CURRENT EC RULE BOOK WILL BE IN EFFECT Any horse entered in any class at a competition may be selected for equine medication control testing while at the event location. Anyone mounted on a horse must wear ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN approved helmet, with safety harness correctly fastened, at all times while on the competition grounds. Only horses wearing a competition number are allowed on the grounds during competition days. Competition numbers must be worn by the horse or rider/handler and visible at all times anywhere outside the stall or trailer. The number must be visible at all times in the schooling and exercise areas as well as the competition ring. Failure to display the number may result in elimination or disqualification. Appropriate footwear must be worn when mounted. Any contestant demonstrating unsafe or unsportsmanlike behaviour will be disqualified for the remainder of the show without refund of entry fees. Dogs must be kept on leashes, please be responsible; No tack stalls are available until after the entry deadline Longeing is only allowed in Ring 3 from 6:30 a.m to 7:30 a.m. -half an hour before the show begins each day. The round pen by the entry gate is open for longeing. The Warm-Up ring will be open 1 hour before the start of the first class. The management reserves the right to limit entries, or refuse an entry. The management reserves the right to decide any point not covered in the rules and correct any error or omission in the program. Protests or objections will be handled by the management. Hors Concours entries accepted at full entry fee and subject to all EC rules including EC sport licenses and passports, but are not eligible for placings, ribbons or awards. Copies of the tests may be found at www.equinecanda.ca/dressage. Please be sure you have the correct edition of the tests. It is the responsibility of the contestants to present themselves, while still mounted, to the Steward for a tack check immediately following their ride. Failure to do so will incur elimination. Failure to ride at the scheduled time will incur elimination. Classes will not necessarily be run in the sequence in the prize list. It is the competitors responsibility to check the posted schedule of ride times for any changes. Ride times may be rescheduled due to unforeseen conflicts. Whips may be to a maximum length of 1.20m (1.00m for ponies) Test callers are permitted as per EC/FEI rules. The competition will not provide a gate-keeper. If one is desired, it is the responsibility of the rider to arrange for someone to close the gate for the entire class. VDRC Dressage Show 2016 Page 10 of 17

Competition rings are sand footing. Walk/Trot and all FEI PE Grades 1 to 3 tests will be run in a 20 x 40 m ring, scheduling permitting. All remaining tests will be in a 20 x 60 m ring. ENTRIES, POST ENTRIES & SUBSTITUTIONS Entries will be accepted in the order in which they are received. Make cheques payable to the Vernon District Riding Club. Copies of your 2016 HCBC/provincial equivalent or USEF membership AND your current EC Sport Licence must accompany your entry. Entries will not be processed until proof of these licences is received. If this proof is not received by the Closing Date, the entry will be subject to a Late Fee of $30.00. Para-equestrian riders must provide a copy of their Dispensation card with their entry. Incomplete entries will be subject to a Late Fee of $30.00. All fees must accompany each entry. Any deficiencies must be made up in cash prior to the competitor being issued a number. Entries received after the closing date are subject to a Late Fee of $30.00. Entries must be in the Secretary s hands by the Closing Date, postmarks are not recognized. Dressage rides will be limited to 60/day/ring. A wait list will be kept once the maximum number of rides has been received. Any entry received by the Closing Date and put on a waiting list is not subject to a Late Fee. Post entries may be accepted up to the appropriate ride time if there is space available; the late fee will apply. Changes to accepted entries requested after the closing date will be subject to a $15.00 entry change fee per change of test. This fee may be waived at the discretion of the organizing committee. Substitutions of horse or rider will be allowed up to and including the closing date. Any substitution after the closing date will be considered a Change of Entry and will be subject to a $15.00 entry change fee, which may be waived at the discretion of the organizing committee. Each horse must be entered on a separate entry form. Maximum number of tests per horse, per day, is 4, including the Freestyle, Equitation, and non EC classes. Horses and horse/rider combinations may compete in tests from a maximum of 2 consecutive levels only. (Ref: recent rule changes, see E7.11.9) Classes are open to all ages of riders and all horses and ponies. VDRC Dressage Show 2016 Page 11 of 17

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS Cancellations received before the closing date will have a full refund. Cancellations received after the closing date and before the start of the show will forfeit their entries except where a certificate of disability from a qualified veterinarian or physician is presented to the office before the start of classes. A fee of $25.00 will be charged on all cancellations. After the start of the show, a horse which has shown in one or more classes is eligible for a refund of 50% of the remaining class entry fees providing a veterinary or medical certificate is presented to the office prior to the end of the show. Stabling fees, administration fees, paramedic fees and EC drug testing fees will not be refunded. Stabling fees will not be refunded. There will be no refunds for balances of $10.00 or less.. CONCESSION Homemade Food Concession available on site Saturday & Sunday PARKING AND CAMPING Parking: Will be under the direction of Show Management; please co-operate with the volunteers who co-ordinate parking. We will try to accommodate your horse trailer parking preferences. Horse trailers have priority for parking in close proximity to the stalls if there are no tack stalls available. We are short of parking space, so please be considerate of others and park your vehicles as directed. Camping: Will be in Dr. Demetrick s back field, located behind the VDRC stall banks. ABSOLUTELY NO HORSES ARE ALLOWED IN DR. DEMETRICKS BACK FIELD WHERE THE CAMPING IS LOCATED. No fires; please collect all garbage and leave no trace. STABLING and CONCIERGE STALL SERVICE All stalls and pens at the show are bedded before your arrival and cleaned out after your departure. The $20.00 fee for this service is automatically added to your registration. No separate stall cleaning deposit cheques are required. This service does not include daily stall cleaning. Tack stalls are expected be available. These stalls will be placed as conveniently as possible. If the demand for horse stalls prohibit the use for tack stalls, your fee will be refunded and trailer parking made as convenient as possible.
