Verify that finishes f substrates cmply with tlerances and ther requirements specified in ther Sectins and that substrates are free f cracks, ridges, depressins, scale, and freign depsits that might interfere with adhesin f resilient prducts. C. Prceed with installatin nly after unsatisfactry cnditins have been crrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Prepare substrates accrding t manufacturer's written instructins t ensure adhesin f resilient prducts. 1. Verify that substrates are dry and free f curing cmpunds, sealers, and hardeners. 2. Remve substrate catings and ther substances that are incmpatible with adhesives and that cntain sap, wax, il, r silicne, using mechanical methds recmmended by manufacturer. D nt use slvents. 3. Mechanically remve cntaminatin n the substrate that may cause damage t the resilient flring material. Permanent and nn-permanent markers, pens, crayns, paint, etc., must nt be used t write n the back f the flring material r used t mark the substrate as they culd bleed thrugh and stain the flring material. 4. Prepare Substrates accrding t ASTM F 710 including the fllwing: a. Misture Testing: Perfrm tests recmmended by manufacturer. Prceed with installatin nly after substrates pass testing. 1) Perfrm anhydrus calcium chlride test, ASTM F 1869. Results must nt exceed 5 lbs. Misture Vapr Emissin Rate per 1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hurs. r 2) Perfrm relative humidity test using in situ prbes, ASTM F 2170. Must nt exceed 80%. b. A ph test fr alkalinity must be cnducted. Results shuld range between 7 and 9. If the test results are nt within the acceptable range f 7 t 9, the installatin must nt prceed until the prblem has been crrected. c. Alkalinity and Adhesin Testing: Perfrm tests recmmended by manufacturer. 5. Wd steps/substrates a. The substrate must be rigid, free f mvement. b. Single wd and tngue and grve substrate shuld be cvered with 1/4" (6.4 mm) r 1/2" (13 mm) APA apprved underlayment plywd. 1) Use 1/4" (6.4 mm) thick underlayment panels fr bards with a face width f 3" (76 mm) r less. 2) Use 1/2" (76 mm) thick underlayment panels fr bards with a face width wider than 3" (76 mm). c. D nt install ver OSB (Oriented Strand Bard), particle bard, chipbard, lauan r cmpsite type underlayments. B. Fill cracks, hles, depressins and irregularities in the substrate with gd quality Prtland cement based underlayment leveling and patching cmpund and remve bumps and ridges t prduce a unifrm and smth substrate. D. D nt install resilient prducts until they are same temperature as the space where they are t be installed. 1. Mve resilient prducts and installatin materials int spaces where they will be installed at least 48 hurs in advance f installatin. E. Sweep and vacuum clean substrates t be cvered by resilient prducts immediately befre installatin. 3.3 RESILIENT STAIR TREAD AND NOSING INSTALLATION A. Cmply with manufacturer's written instructins fr installing resilient accessries. B. Resilient Stair Tread and Nsing: 1. Use Jhnsnite #930 Epxy Caulking Cmpund t strengthen nsing and fill irregularities in substrates t cnfrm t tread nsing. 2. Tightly adhere t substrates thrughut length f each piece. 3.
