FROM THE PRESIDENT FLOORBALL, A SPORT LIKE NO OTHER On behalf of the entire Floorball Malaysia family, I am pleased to introduce you to the Malaysia Floorball Association, and to offer a brief guide to this amazing sport. The history of Floorball Malaysia can be traced all the way back to the year 2002, when a bunch of sport enthusiasts first picked up the sport in University Malaya. The simple introductory session conducted by Mr. Stefan Dahlgren on that day had since made a huge impact in kick starting Floorball in Malaysia, Throughout the past 14 years, Floorball has grown from a mere 5 players from University Malaya to about 1200 active players and 800 recreational players in the whole Malaysia today. Its debut in SEA Games 2015 was probably one of the most memorable Floorball moments for Floorball Malaysia and myself. Sending 2 competitive Floorball teams to compete in the biggest sporting stage in South East Asia was probably an imagination that we could only dream of 14 years ago. Nonetheless, SEA Games was just the beginning to many great things that we strive to achieve in years to come. The energy that keep us going? First, all the amazing Floorball community that we have here in Malaysia as well as the ever growing community in the South East Asia region and beyond. Second, the awesome game itself. Floorball, truly a sport like no other. We hope you enjoy it. Warm regards, Rizal Mohd Razman, PHD President Malaysia Floorball Association
WHAT IS FLOORBALL Floorball is a fun and fast-paced sport played indoors with floorball sticks and a ball. The sport is easy to pick up with simple rules that one can easily learn in a matter of minutes. Floorball is played indoors on a playing field that normally measures 40 x 20 meters with a rink. It can also be played anywhere indoor with a flat ground,. HOW TO PLAY Floorball is played 5 v 5 with one goalkeeper in each team. Goalkeepers normally sit on their knees and a line has two defenders, one center and two forwards to establish a good combination of defense and attack Floorball is played with a rink around the field, almost like ice hockey, but the floorball rink is lower, only 50 cm high. The rink is made from fibre glass or plastic. Floorball is normally played 3 x 20 minutes with two 10 minute intermissions. The younger the players are the shorter the playing time will be. Every new match and every new period start with a face-off. Floorball has rules to keep the game safe. To be able to maintain a good level between a physical and a technical game, the games normally have two referees.
