STEWARDS REPORT Murrumbidgee Turf Club WAGGA WAGGA RACECOURSE Saturday 15 December 2016 Weather: Overcast Track: Good (3), Downgraded to Good (4) at 2.10pm. Rail: +4m from 1400m to Winning Post. True remainder STEWARDS: T.J.Davidson (Chairman), J.A.Shultz & D.R.McLean (10u1b) RACE 1: Class 1 Handicap 1400m: Comrade Ned- Crowded on jumping. Got its head up while racing keenly in the early and middle stages. Critical Touch- Crowded on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Spare Ticket- Showed no early pace despite the urgings of its rider. N. Souquet could offer no explanation for today s performance stating the gelding did not travel at any stage and was under pressure from the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to be lame in the off fore. Trainer Mr T. Smart was advised a veterinary clearance must be submitted before the horse would be permitted to race again. Two Bob Jordan- Steadied near the 1000m when Didn t Even Kiss Me (S. Miller) shifted in when not quite clear. S. Miller was advised to exercise more care. RACE 2: Maiden Plate 1000m: Grand Expedition- Raced keenly in the early stages. Greggreg Girl- Raced wide throughout. Paris Carver- Slow to begin. Hampered near the 200m when Strattarosa shifted out under pressure. Shadow Wings- Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Ligny- Slow to begin. Nicci s Rainbow- Proved very difficult to be ridden to the barriers and after being loaded into the gates became very fractious and flipped over. It was withdrawn by Stewards acting on veterinary advice at 1.57pm. Trainer Mr G. Colvin was advised the filly would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before it would be permitted to race again. In regards to betting Stewards ordered all monies invested on Nicci s Rainbow be refunded and all successful wagers placed with bookmakers prior to 1.57pm be paid less the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket.
1 st ) Turbo Bundy- 4 cents win, 4 cents place 2 nd ) Ligny- 6 cents place 3 rd ) Shadow Wings- 5 cents place. Strattarosa- Shifted out under pressure in the straight. RACE 3: Open Handicap 1000m: Corsica Lad- Bumped on jumping. Rider Ms C. MacFarlane(a) was fined $300 under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on eight (8) occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty Stewards took into account Apprentice MacFarlane s poor record in relation to breaches of this rule. Boys Day Out- Rider R. Bensley explained his mount began well but didn t show the necessary speed to go forward. He added the gelding did not travel well and in his opinion did not appreciate the shifting track conditions. He further stated when placed under pressure in the straight it found the line only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Layo Layo- Bumped on jumping. Vinnie Vega- Dipped after the start. Costamony- Bumped on jumping. Little Capri- Trainer Mr P. Sweeney was fined $50 under AR59A for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the gelding when requested. Bumped on jumping. Steadied when momentarily crowded near the 700m. Rider L. King(a) was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100m. RACE 4: Maiden Plate 1600m: Artie s Hustler- Crowded after the start. Rock Prodigy- Rider B. Ward explained his mount travelled well in and advantageous position but came off the bit at the 800m and raced like a horse that had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Co-Trainer Mr K. Dryden advised Stewards the gelding would now be sent for a spell. Captain Dan- Hampered on jumping when Kat Comes to Town shifted in. Hung out near the 1200m. Steadied near the 1400m when crowded to the inside of Miss Koru, which in turn was carried in by Viva Lavino (B. Loy). B. Loy was reprimanded for careless riding under AR137(a). Esempio- Severely crowded on jumping between Rock Prodigy and Miss Koru, which was taken out by Coogee Beach Boy. Bumped heavily passing the 1500m. Steadied approaching the 1400m when Viva Lavino (B. Loy) shifted in when not quite clear. B. Loy was advised to exercise more care. Kat Comes to Town- Held up and unable to improve between the 500m and 400m and again approaching the 200m. Miss Koru- Bumped heavily passing the 1500m.
Tearful Kitty- Raced wide throughout. RACE 5: Maiden Handicap 1300m: A Good Knight- Lunged forward in the barriers and struck its head. It was withdrawn by Stewards acting on veterinary advice at 3.47pm when it was found to have abrasions to its head. In regards to betting Stewards ordered all monies invested on A Good Knight be refunded and all successful wagers placed with bookmakers prior to 3.47pm be paid less the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket. 1 st ) Run Hoff Run- 3 cents win, 4 cents place 2 nd ) Danetrille- 3 cents place 3 rd ) Daisy Doutes- 4 cents place Android- Bucked after the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr P. Murray was advised the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before it would be permitted to race again. Bodice- Bumped after the start. Captain Charlie- Slow to begin. Beaujeen- Blundered near the 50m. Rose of Danetree- Slow to begin (2L). Brainstorm- Steadied and lost ground approaching the 800m when crowded to the inside of Bodice (M. Heagney). At a subsequent inquiry M.Heagney pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 800m he did permit Bodice to shift in when insufficiently clear of Brainstorm, which was crowded, steadied and lost the running to which it was entitled. M. Heagney s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Friday 16 December 2016 and to expire on Monday 26 th December 2016, on which day he may ride. Vanderlin Brom- Slow to begin and then bumped shortly after. RACE 6: Class 2 Handicap 1200m: Tudor Rule- Hampered shortly after the start when Lachlan Leanna (L. King(a)) shifted in when not quite clear. Apprentice King was advised to exercise more care. Lots of em- Crowded after the start. Millau- Slow to begin. Rider N. Souquet explained his mount began fairly but was under pressure from the 800m and did not run on in the straight. He added he did not unduly pressure the gelding over the concluding stages as he was not totally happy with its action. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. In all the circumstances Trainer Ms M. Jones was advised an official warning would be placed on the competitiveness of the gelding. Baby Zara- Bumped on jumping. Our Project- Bumped on jumping. Eureka Maid- Began awkwardly and shifted outwards abruptly.
Orange Time- Awkwardly placed near the 250m after laying in close to the heels of Miss Belle Geddes. Bumped near the 200m. Lachlan Leanna- Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 200m. Cobra Kai- Slow to begin and then severely checked shortly after when crowded between Our Project and Lots of em, which was taken out by Eureka Maid, which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Dream on Stan- Slow to begin. Race 7: Open Handicap 1400m: Nat King Cu- Rider J. Devrimol(a) was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100m. Shout to the Top- Bumped after the start. Sand Dune- Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Steadied when crowded approaching the 600m. Providential- Bumped after the start. Le Cavalier- Slow to begin. Steadied when crowded approaching the 600m. Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages. Poor Corner- Ms A. Masters replaced B. Clark (overweight) as the rider of the gelding. B. Clark was fined $100 under AR120(b). Race 8: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1800m: Go Get em- Laid in under pressure in the straight. Harason- Severely checked and became badly unbalanced near the 1400m after striking the running rail while racing tight to the inside of Xian s Pride (Ms S. Metcalfe(a). In taking no action Stewards could not be satisfied on the available evidence that Xian s Pride had shifted in to a point that resulted in Harason losing its running. Stewards were also of the opinion that Harason had contributed to the incident by being reluctant to hold its position. Oh So Unfair- Laid in under pressure in the straight. Girls Own- Raced wide throughout. Steadied near the 1400m when Benno s Boy (Ms. A. Masters) shifted in when not quite clear. Ms A. Masters was advised to exercise more care. Hard Go Jo- Checked when crowded near the 250m. Stewards deemed this incident to be as a result of a minor shift outwards by Harason (L. King(a)) resulting in that gelding making contact with the hindquarters of Hard Go Jo which in turn made contact with the hindquarters of Trois Belle. As a result of the contact Harason and Trois Belle were turned sideways resulting in Hard Go Jo losing its position. Apprentice King was advised to exercise more care. When questioned regarding the performance of Hard Go Jo, rider N. Heywood(a) stated although disappointed with the performance he believed the mare did not appreciate the shifting track and is much
better suited on firmer racing surfaces. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Fracking- Slow to begin. Bumped near the 200m. Xian s Pride- Bumped near the 200m. Evasive Action- M. Hackett replaced B. Clark (overweight) as the rider of the gelding. Slow to begin. Checked near the 1400m after the gelding over reacted to minor crowding from Mr Sommerville and Go Get em.
