MACARTHUR SNOWSPORTS PROGRAMME It does not matter if you have skied or boarded before, the Macarthur Snowsports Programme is a fantastic opportunity for all our students in Years 3 to 12. The programme is now in its tenth year and is designed to meet all our students individual needs and caters to all levels of ability, from first timers to advanced. The main purpose of the programme is to enable students to develop their snowsports skills and have fun. Should students wish there is also the opportunities to compete in the Interschools Snowsports Competition. In 2015 the Regional Interschools event is being held at Perisher. Students may also have the option to compete in the Scots and Redlands Cups Ski Competitions, depending on the number interested. Interschools is a series of school-age competitions in Alpine, Cross Country, Skiercross, Moguls, Snowboard and Boardercross. It is organised by the Interschools Snowsports Committee. All ability levels are encouraged to enter, with the emphasis on fun and participation at the regional level. Even if students have never competed before or are first-time skiers, the Macarthur Snowsports Programme enables you to learn all the skills that are required to participate in these fantastic events. Some of the many Macarthur highlights for 2014 included: Nicholas Masjuk Division 1 Snowboard GS Australian Champion and 3 rd in Snowboard Cross Callum Masjuk 1 st in State, Snowboard GS and 2 nd in State, Snowboard Cross 17 top 5 results in the Northern Regional Championships. 7 students selected to represent Macarthur at the Australian Championships, continuing our outstanding record in competitions. Parental support is welcome, however, all aspects of the programme will be fully supervised by Macarthur Staff and the students will be under the authority of the School during the camps and competitions. There will be an informal information session held on Thursday 19 February 2015 at 7.00pm in the Chapel for any parents who wish to discuss the Snowsports Programme further. Further information including, itinerary, equipment lists, forms, clothing and hire requirements will be sent home in early Autumn Term. MACARTHUR SNOWSPORTS SUPPORTERS The Macarthur Snowsports Programme is now in its 10th year and each year it has gone from strength to strength. Over this time there have been many people willing to give up their time to see our team become successful. The students should no doubt be proud of their achievements over the years. Students who participate in the Macarthur Snowsports Programme are provided with 2-hour group lessons in order to assist with their skiing or boarding. In addition some students then opt to purchase private race lessons. In order to further assist our boys and girls develop in 2010, 2012 and 2014 we were able to hire two race coaches, one snowboard and one ski. The only reasons we were able to do this was because of the generosity of some parents and supporters. Coaching enables students to learn not only how to ski or board but how to race. Many people have asked, why not hire coaches and just spread the cost out. Coaches cost approximately $700 per day and to include this in the cost of the programme may mean that some students would be unable to take part. We always aim to keep the costs of our snowsports programme as low as possible. Race coaching is therefore only available if we can find enough people willing to be Macarthur Snowsports Supporters. Individuals or businesses willing to become supporters of the Macarthur Snowsports Programme in order to hire the race coaches would be very much appreciated. Businesses and people would be acknowledged by having their name and/or logo printed in this booklet in the following year. Acknowledgement will also be made in the School magazine, Tartan Ties. Should you or your business be willing to consider this please contact Scott Bedingfield (Snowsports Coordinator and Head of Senior School) at Macarthur Anglican School on 4647 5333 or by email sbedingfield@macarthur.nsw.edu.au.
