A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON ABOUT SWIN Our Mission: to facilitate and support the delivery of sport and recreation Programs for the South West Queensland communities and promote partnerships throughout Queensland. I would firstly like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which our services are placed and their continuing connection to the land, sea and community. I would also like to acknowledge and pay my respects to our Elders, past, present and emerging. The South West Indigenous Network Inc. (SWIN) is a recognised multi-sport organisation that provides leadership, guidance and support to the Indigenous communities of South West and South East Queensland through opportunities in sport, physical activities and recreation. The South West Indigenous Network Inc (SWIN) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres rait Islanders in Southern Queensland, which I am extremely proud of the Western Rivers Cup Indigenous Carnival and the pathways it provides whilst continuing SWIN s mission of increasing participation for our communities. Our team have been working hard towards making the 07 Western Rivers Cup a successful event with this year attracting teams from communities across Central, South East and South West Queensland. SWIN is also proud to hosting the nd Women s Western Rivers Cup in 07 with 6 teams nominating. For more than ten years, SWIN has created a supportive environment of community sport and recreation officers, recognising the unique needs of Indigenous people and encouraging skills sharing and traditions to benefit all members. For the first time this year the Carnival will open with a Sponsors Vs Chairman s game prior to our Twilight event at the ground. Also the board have acknowledged that with the growth of the carnival that from 08 a Western Rivers Cup rategy will be developed and implemented which is exciting news for players, volunteers, sponsors and key stakeholders. COMPETITION RULES REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE. All 8 players must bowl one over (6 balls) each Players will be required to sign a registration form on the day to ensure their liability and player insurance is current. The South West Indigenous Network will cover all insurance costs.. Wide balls and no balls are each worth runs. No free hits for no balls Players who were not previously regular cricketers will be able to continue their cricket by being directed to a local club in their region. This information will be available from Queensland Cricket. 4. There will be a maximum of 8 balls in an over for overs 7 5. The 8th over will be bowled out (not limited to 8 balls) 6. All overs are bowled at one end 7. There are no fielding restrictions 8. There will be no LBW s 9. Batsman must retire at 0 and can come back if all other wickets are list. If more than one batsman retire they return in the order they retired 0. 50 metre boundaries will be used. Injured Player (unable to bowl) over will be bowled by a player nominated by the batting team. The Laws of Cricket will be used except for any exclusions mentioned previously MATCH REFEREE FOOTWEAR A Queensland Cricket official will be Match Referee, and any rule interpretations will be his decision and these decisions will be final. Cricket shoes / boots with spikes are preferred to prevent injury. OFFICIALS Umpires will be employed from the Toowoomba Cricket Association to officiate on the day.. All teams must have a non-player (Team Manager/Coordinator) sit with the scorer for the duration of each match this is compulsory. SPIRIT OF CRICKET In the event that an Umpire rules a catch has been deliberately dropped, or not attempted 0 runs will be given to the batting team. SOUTHERN QUEENSLAND S LARGEST INDIGENOUS CRICKET CARNIVAL EQUIPMENT Where possible, players are to bring their own cricket equipment, however a kit bag will be available on the day at each field. COMPETITION FORMAT Each team will play 5 round matches with points allocated for each match as follows: WIN points DRAW point LOSS 0 points In the event of a team being even on points at the end of the round robin matches, the team who has the best average (runs scored by wickets lost) will progress to the semi-final.
