Historical Anaylsis: Membership at McLeod has been declining for the last 18 years. It is not a problem unique to this board. It does suggest that traditional methods of attracting members do not work as they once did. The trends also reflect changes to population demographics and the general decline of golf clubs worldwide. 2013 Membership: While we have an increasing number of Juniors and Sub- Juniors we have very few members in the 21 to 45 age group. The senior category of our membership is increasing annually with reducing returns due to senior discount. McLeod Membership Development Plan Version 1.1 as of 17 th January 2014 Page 3

Gateway Membership: The introduction of Gateway Membership at $600 did increase the numbers of members in the range 20 to 45 but at the end of their 12 months they did not convert to full membership with most men simply chasing the cheapest golf. The women were better but tend to be older and start initially as Beginners then convert to Gateway and finally full membership over a period of time as long as 2 years. Increasing the Gateway membership to $800 has resulted in lower number of Gateway membership being taken up suggesting the price point is not acceptable. Why are we not getting new members by traditional marketing? Too busy Too expensive Women now working full- time. Women working until later in life. Cheap social golf options Never played before What has worked to attract new members? Gateway at $600 did attract new members particularly men. Today at $800 is not as effective. Beginner program Golf days designed for Non Golfers Juniors via schools and holiday camps. Where do we get member s now? Identify what are the impediments to achieving the above objectives: - Constitution: Limiting membership types, Board cannot be proactive. Non- equal membership between females and males and between Fellows and Provisional Fellows. - Poor advertising. Local newspapers not delivering return. What gets to biggest audience and delivers best bang for our buck? Try event planning publications. Golf Publications. Use schools to target younger demographic. - Poor or non existent Promotional Literature. Develop Beginner Brochure as a priority. - Poor training facilities need all weather so that turnover does not have to stop on wet days particularly for beginners groups. Oxley driving range is slated to close we should be developing ourselves as a future alternative for the area. Start small but encourage locals to use the facility, will help to improve Pro shop revenue also. Develop grant application ready to go for next round of sporting facility grants. Better facilities would also attract overseas students to McLeod Golf Academy. - Time. This is not a Members match committee role- we already deal with over 160+ competitions per year. Whose role is it to develop membership. Do we need to assign a selected committee to develop new events, arrange deals and research contacts. - Prizes: Sponsors are needed to make events attractive to outsiders to justify higher entry fees and therefore revenue. The old adage that the prizes do not matter is not backed by field size data for days where prizes are significant. More and better prizes = bigger fields always. - Online booking system: Existing system does not allow online bookings nor management of social and competition timesheets together so we miss out on the opportunity to tweak our timesheets for social play. Online payment with limited weather refund will also reduce no shows for both social and competition. MiClub http://www.miclub.com.au/_ What is the cost to implement this and can we afford not to? Changes to handicap system will occur 23 rd Jan 2014 and our system must be ready be it new or old. - Cost of Golf: Cost of golf relative to other sports is not expensive. Families to be defined as 2 adults and 2 kids. Adults pay full fees and kids free? Is this model viable, to what age? McLeod Membership Development Plan Version 1.1 as of 17 th January 2014 Page 9

Comparison of Club Memberships Comparison of club memberships and fees shows that clubs that are council sponsored have a huge membership fee advantage over the rest. The types of memberships being offered are similar between clubs, 7 day and 5 day being the most common. There is a move amongst a number of clubs to cater towards Young Professionals Brisbane to 30 years, Carbrook to 45 years, Oxley (limit of 18 memberships only) no age, limited number of games, Kerperra to 28years. There is some considerable difference between clubs for affiliation and insurance fees $47 to $87. Some clubs include these fees in there overall pricing while other do not. There is also a large difference between clubs for joining fees, as little as $50 through to $5000+. All clubs appear to have waivers for all or part of their joining fees at various times. Some clubs where joining fees are large allow split payments over a number of years. Social playing memberships are not common, Redland Bay offers a Gold Pass (7 day year long) unlimited social play at $395 which if they do their math is not a good deal for the club and I would not recommend this approach. Other forms of social membership include I- golf from Golf Queensland and offerings like the Cricket Club which is not affiliated with any particular club. A number of clubs offer Try it and see or 3 months but no club other than McLeod offers Beginner Membership with the associated learning and mentoring.
