It has been an awesome 2017 Buckeye football season. The ninety days from the B1G kickoff party to the B1G Championship flew by. There were 13 games hosted by our three great locations (of course, excluding IRMA weekend). Thank you to O Brien s, Quaker Steak and Lube, and Outpost for their support. Thank you to all who joined in our Game Day activities supporting our Scholarship fund, food drive, Toys for Tots drive, New Perspective Foundation and other events that we hosted during the season. And it is not over yet as we eagerly look forward to the Cotton Bowl and victory #12 over USC. Watch for updates via email, Facebook, the web site and on the phone app for announcements of a number of activities scheduled for 2018. Suncoast Alumni Club achieves Scarlet and Gray status at annual OSUAA Symposium It takes a lot of work by a lot of volunteers to make it happen. We are proud to announce that the Suncoast Alumni Club has once again achieved Scarlet and Gray status awarded by The Ohio State University Alumni Association. The award was announced at the annual OSUAA Symposium in Columbus. Members of the club attended to receive the award and also gained valuable information through sessions with OSUAA speakers along with breakout sessions with other club leaders from the SouthEast Region. The 2017 Club of the Year is Jacksonville. We are pleased to keep the award in Florida again this year. Past Events 7/15/2017 Annual Banquet and Scholarship Awards Suncoast Alumni Club members and Tampa Bay area Buckeyes enjoyed an evening of cocktails, dinner, scholarship awards and guest speaker Blake Haxton at Jackson s Bistro in downtown Tampa. Anna Dorey, Isabella Borrera and Jack Stupp were honored as 2017 Suncoast Alumni Club Scholarship recipients. Blake Haxton was the highlight of the evening with a great inspirational and motivating presentation. A donation was made to Pelotonia (funding life-saving cancer research) by the club in the name of Blake. Special thanks to Blake for joining us for this special evening. 8/26/2017 BIG TEN Tailgate Party B1G fans took over the courtyard at Ferg s in downtown St. Petersburg for the annual kickoff of the college football season. It was an enjoyable night for all and great to see how well all of the scholarship recipients are doing. 11/18/2017 Ultimate Tailgate Raffle Thank you to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket for the Ultimate Tailgate raffle. Through your generosity, The Suncoast Alumni Club was able to donate $1,000 to New Perspective Foundation. The donation will be used to support the families of individuals with spinal cord injuries. Paying Forward An Ohio State Tradition Pay it forward is an expression for describing the beneficiary of a good deed repaying it to others instead of to the original benefactor. The history of the expression goes back to ancient Greece, described by the likes of Benjamin Franklin and Ralph Waldo Emerson. But we most remember it as misquoted by our beloved Woody Hayes, You can pay back only seldom. You can always pay forward, and you must pay line for line, deed for deed, and cent for cent." He also shortened the (mis)quotation into "You can never pay back; but you can always pay forward" and variants. Upcoming Events 12/19/2017 Club Holiday Party and Buck-I-SERV Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. 10400 49th Street North, Clearwater Club members get together with Buck-I-SERV students and Scholarship recipients. Scholarship Update Not only is Urban Meyer looking for great talent for The Ohio State University but so is the Suncoast Alumni Club. Working closely with the Admissions Office and our regional representative Antonio Serrano, the club has participated in many College Fairs during September and October. The College Fairs the club has attended include Pinellas County (USF-St. Petersburg), Sickles H.S., Chamberlain H.S., Brandon H.S., Plant H.S., Clearwater H.S. and Countryside H.S. Special thanks to both Nancy Hayes and Katie Lowe who have completed BAR Training (Buckeye Alumni Recruitment) and are approved by The Ohio State University to represent the university at these events. We look forward to receiving scholarship applications from the super students who have a strong desire to join the next freshman class at The Ohio State University. Contributions Thanks to the many Suncoast Alumni Club Champion members who chose to renew their club membership this year with a $100 donation to the Suncoast (Tampa Bay) Alumni Club Scholarship Fund (Fund Number: 306120). Please know that your contributions at any time are very much appreciated. We continue to have the opportunity to assist many very exceptional students to attend The Ohio State University.
