CCC Welcomes New July Members Eric Barber ~ Jr. Executive Stephani McPherson ~ Social Dear Members, On July 4th, a dance party broke out on the 9th green. You see, the D.J. at our pool was cranking out Bruno Mars Uptown Funk and it s just hard not to dance when you hear it. Or it is for me, at least. The pool is an integral part of our club. Our 110 summer members and 140 swim team participants not only help us generate revenue, they also ensure a vibrant atmosphere, and not just Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day when we have a D.J. Our pool separates us from our competition it s the difference between just a golf club and a country club. The pool helps increase membership, both on a conversion basis and new member basis. We use a management company for lifeguard services and to ensure water quality. In addition, we have a full-service snack bar at the pool for food and beverage. Whether it s Dive In movie night, a birthday party for a child, or just a relaxing dip on a hot summer day, I urge you to take advantage of our pool. A friend of mine told me recently he d never been to our pool it s out of bounds. If you ve never been to our pool, you ve got another month. See you there, and don t forget the sunscreen! CCC President We would like to thank all juniors and parents for a wonderful summer of golf! The 2017 summer clinics were a huge success with the PGA Sports Academy and TPI Junior Instruction. We had a blast running around and learning the game. The professional staff would like to thank each and every participant for supporting our efforts to grow the game. Also, be on the lookout for a fall junior program. Details soon to follow! Robbie Prichard & Pat Quigley

Did You Know?! As everyone is aware, in July, CCC Greens staff aerated our golf greens twice; approximately one week apart. The greens are aerated in accordance with the protocol recommended by the USGA Greens section and the developer of Tifeagle grass who recommend removing approximately 25% of the organic matter on the greens annually. CCC s method of aeration removes approximately 11% each time we aerate so as to remove about 22% of the organic matter every year. Aeration, an essential program to keep playing surfaces healthy and in good condition, is performed primarily to control organic matter i.e., decaying roots and grass stems relieve soil compaction, stimulate root growth and improve drainage. Untreated, these conditions inhibit root growth, reduce oxygen levels in the soil, encourage disease and eventually can lead to turf failure. The key to quick recovery to smooth, firm putting surfaces is to perform aeration when the turf is healthy and actively growing. As to CCC s greens in particular, when Tifeagle grass was first developed for use on golf courses the developer predicted a turf life of 10-15 years. Our greens are now 16 years old and are still healthy due primarily to our aeration practices. While we realize aeration is a major inconvenience, it has been our experience that it takes 21 days for the greens to recover and be reasonably puttable and 35 days to being perfect again. Playing CCC greens that are going through aeration is tough but consider Tom Watson once shot a 58 on aerated greens at Kansas City CC. There are golf courses in South Carolina that have greens which may be as good as those at CCC; but none better. During the majority of the year, the green s staff keeps our greens at speeds that are comparable to playing conditions at PGA tournaments. While it takes time for the greens to heal, aeration is the only way to rejuvenate our greens and maintain increased greens speed; something we have come to expect. It s hard to believe that August is here already and we are starting to plan for fall and winter projects. The summer has flown by but the golf course has been excellent. July marked the end of the summer tournament spree at CCC due in large to our aerification of the greens which started on July 10th. The aerification went well and the greens are recovering quickly. Over the coming weeks the staff and I will turn our focus to maintaining the golf course and returning to the playing conditions we are all accustom to here at CCC. This Sway characteristic makes it very difficult to develop a proper weight shift during transition and the downswing. Imagine a baseball batter digging in at home plate with their back foot. This simple routine allows them to coil around their back leg and drive their weight from their back leg to their front leg in a very efficient manner. If there is no stable platform to drive your weight off of during transition, you will lose power and try to develop speed in an inefficient manner. Swaying is the result of physical limitations and can be eliminated by strengthening the right hip for right-handed golfers as well as the glutes. Hello everybody and happy hot golfing weather! The next LGA meeting will be Tuesday, August 1st at 1:30pm or as close to that as possible after we play golf. We will meet in the dining room and have a brief meeting and lunch. Next up for the LGA will be our Member \ Guest Tournament which will be September 13th and 14th. This tournament is always very popular and always a lot of fun and a wonderful way to show off our beautiful course. The sign-up sheet will be in the ladies' locker room soon. Bring one, two, or three guests and enjoy the fun and fellowship of the tournament! The forward tees will be installed soon.
