Sage International School 2015 Junior High/High School Ski and Snowboard Teams The Bogus Basin School Race Program has three goals: 1) Provide a safe environment on the slopes in which to participate; 2) Encourage students to represent and compete for their school in a lifesport activity. This provides a venue for many students to represent their school that they might not otherwise have. 3) Provide a level of competition in which the maximum number of students can participate. The overall philosophy is to provide friendly competition and encourage participation. Nordic racing is new this year. To promote Nordic racing, Bogus Basin is offering free Nordic only passes each race day and also free rental equipment each race day. See the Nordic race page for details. Sage International School will have two teams this year and each team has room for all ability levels. The Junior High team is for 6 th through 9 th grades. The High School team is for 10 th and 11 th grades. Our school will compete in the small school division. Students choose to register as a skier or snowboarder. Students can sign up for Nordic, slalom or freestyle (or more than one) when they enroll. Members can do both the slalom course and the freestyle course, only pay one registration fee, but must have two race cards each Saturday. You could also do Nordic and alpine but would need two sets of equipment and the ability to hustle from one course to another. The member also chooses his or her ability level: expert, intermediate, or novice (novice not available for freestyle / freeride). Races are on Saturdays. The Race Schedule is in this package. Nodic begins at 10:30 am at the Frontier Point Lodge (Nordic center). Freestyle / freeride begins at 11:30 am on the new 10-acre terrain park just added in Bitteroot Basin and lasts until about 1 pm. All slalom races are off the Bitterroot Chair (#5). High school at 12:30 pm; Junior high at 1:30 pm. Slalom races are open for one hour for each division. You may want to review the course map on the next page to select your ability level before enrolling. Questions? Anja Baird is the team advisor azbaird@cableone.net. Mr. Donahue is the faculty sponsor. Team meetings will be at lunchtime. It is recommended that all students, especially those enrolled in the freestyle/freeride competition, watch the Terrain Park Smart video on the Bogus Basin website and print the certificate http://www.bogusbasin.org/the-mountain/terrain-parks.aspx

Nordic racing check in is at 10:15 am at the Frontier Point Nordic Lodge Continue 1/4-mile past the Simplot Lodge through the main parking lot and past the tubing hill. The Nordic center is ahead of you, at the Pioneer Road junction Note new location for freestyle/freeride races in new terrain park in Bitteroot

Sophomores and juniors can still participate in the Friday finals as long as they meet the minimum of three Saturday races. Since the junior high finals are on Thursday a determination still has to be made about the academic goals a member must meet to participate and whether participation is an excused absence. More information will be provided at the team meetings. The ski/snowboard team finals are called the Dotty Clark but is actually the Dotty Clark Memorial Race. The race program was established in 1960 as a friendly competition between Boise and Borah High students. The schools dedicated the final race to a popular classmate who was killed in a car accident Dotty Clark. The race program is now sponsored by Bogus Basin and about 1,650 students participate in at least one race each year. These students come from 30 high schools and 40 junior high schools throughout the Treasure Valley. Jr. High Dotty Clark Finals* Thursday February 19, 2015 High School Dotty Clark Finals* Friday February 20, 2015 *Each student must race a minimum of three Saturday races to qualify for the Dotty Clark finals. *Racers can compete in more than one category (freestyle, slalom and Nordic) at the Dotty Clark but if a student want to compete in more than one, that student must complete three Saturday races in each discipline to qualify to race the finals in that discipline.
