Waters ranks second in school history for most games coached at CSU with 353, trailing Ray Dieringer who coached 360 games. Waters is 190-163 during his 11 seasons at CSU and 361-298 in 21 seasons overall as a head coach. Waters ranks second in CSU history in winning percentage (.538). He has led 12 of his teams to the post-season in his 20 seasons as a head coach, including three trips to the NCAA s. BLOCK PARTY: The Vikings blocked a season-high seven shots in Saturday s setback to Valparaiso. Demonte Flannigan had three blocks - the most in a game by a CSU player this year -, while Derek Sloan, Rob Edwards, Bobby Word and Terrell Hales had one each. It was the most blocks for CSU since the Vikings had 11 blocks against UIC on Feb. 15, 2015. TAKING CARE OF THE BALL: CSU committed a season-low eight turnovers in Saturday s (Jan. 14) game against Valparaiso. It was the third time this year that the Vikings made less than 10 turnovers in a game. CSU had nine miscues against Western Michigan (Dec. 7) and at Northern Kentucky (Jan. 7). MAXWELL TIES CAREER HIGH: Nelson Maxwell tied his career-high with eight points on Saturday (Jan. 14) versus Valparaiso. The walk-on guard hit 3-of-6 from the field, and added three rebounds, one assist and one steal in the game. He is averaging 3.8 points in six Horizon Leauge games this year, hitting 10-of-15 (.667) from the floor in 11.0 minutes per game. ON THE GLASS: Demonte Flannigan grabbed a CSU season-high 13 rebounds in the Dec. 29 setback to Green Bay. It was the sixth time Flannigan grabbed double-digit rebounds in his career. The 13 rebounds were the second highest total of Flannigan s career, topped by a 17 rebound performance last year vs. Malone. He leads the team and is 11th in the League with 5.5 per game. #GoVikes

2016-17 Cleveland State Basketball 5 EDWARDS NETS CAREER HIGH: Sophomore Rob Edwards scored a career-high 28 points in the Nov. 23 setback at No. 1 ranked Kentucky. Edwards also set career-highs in field goals made (12) and attempted (21) against the Wildcats. His old career-high was 26 points set last season at. He has nine career 20-point games, including five this year.... AND PROVING WORTHY OF PRESEASON HONOR: Rob Edwards was named to the preseason All-Horizon League second team. He ranks eighth in the Horizon League in scoring (14.9) and 10th in steals (1.1) and 13th in free throw percentage (.759). Edwards set career-highs in free throws made (8) and attempted (14) against Bethune- Cookman (Dec. 3), equaling the number of makes versus Valparaiso (Jan. 14). The 14 free throw attempts against B-CUwere the most by a CSU player since Aaron Pogue shot 15 in a win over Vermont (3/15/11) in the first round of the NIT. Edwards is 149-of-197 (.755) at the free throw line for his career. Last year, he averaged 12.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game, earning a spot on the Horizon League All-Freshman team. He started 30 games last year, the most for a freshman in CSU history, and also logged a CSU freshman record 994 minutes. WORD UP: Bobby Word showcased his strong outside shooting in CSU s first two League games, hitting 8-of-13 (.615) from three-point. He hit 4-of-5 vs. Green Bay (Dec. 29) and went 4-of-8 against Milwaukee (Dec. 31). Word ranks 25th in the League in scoring (11.0) and fifth in three-pointers (2.3) in his first season at CSU after sitting out last year when he transferred from Oral Roberts. Word netted a career-high 25 points in a win over Western Michigan (Dec. 7). He hit 9-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point. It bettered his old career-high of 22 points in the second round of the CBI against Loyola (Ill.) when he was at Oral Roberts. FLANNIGAN BACK IN THE LINEUP: Since missing the first four games due to a medical issue, Demonte Flannigan has come back to provide CSU with a strong post presence. In 14 games, Flannigan is averaging 11.6 points, 21st best in the League and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game (11th in HL), while shooting.479 from the field (12th in HL). Flannigan has six career 20-point games and six career double-doubles, including 17-point, 10 rebound effort at (Jan. 5) this year. QUICK HITTERS: Kasheem Thomas became the first CSU freshman to start a season opener since 2003-04 (Walt Waters) when he drew a starting assignment vs. Kent State (Nov. 12). Thomas is 10th in the League in assists (3.1) and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8). Junior Derek Sloan set career highs in points (10) and rebounds (7) vs. Canisius (Nov. 15). Took over as the 14th head coach in CSU history on April 6, 2006 after coaching the previous five seasons at Rutgers. Only the second CSU head coach to lead a team to the NCAA Men s Basketball Championship (2008). Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2007-08 after leading CSU to a 21-13 record and an NIT appearance. Compiled a 79-75 mark at Rutgers (2001-06), taking the Scarlet Knights to the NIT three times (2002, 2004 & 2006). Led Rutgers to a second place finish in the 2004 NIT.
